I was really hoping it was going to be something like this.
Also, I want to curl up with a giant Maine Coon too!
You are not alone in this.

Yes, Progresso still makes the light version of soups. I buy some of them. I also like the reduced sodium if I can get them.
As the saying goes “be careful what you ask for, you just might get it”
that’s what I thought of as well, but then I figured it really meant a combo of gloves and mittens.
Happy Birthday to FCM’s Mom and son-in-law
My favorite line from the latest Indiana Jones movie entails his colleague making an assertion, then admitting he can’t prove it.
Indy fires back, “Proving it is what makes it science!”
Heh, that would be cool. As it is, they’re pink/white/purple knitted ones, that I got at the flea market.
So a friend of Mr. Rilch’s and mine gave us a gift card for Christmas. $100 credit at a store I’ll call Ampersand. We don’t go to Ampersand much; I think I didn’t go in there once during 2024. We mostly go to another store, closer to where we are, that I’ll call Many, Many Books. But last Friday, we were out that way, so we went into Ampersand.
But see, at MMB, a lot of the stock is discounted. At Ampersand, almost everything was full price. We weren’t quite sure how to split up the $100, and as it was, Mr. Rilch got a headache and noped out. And I was mortified at the information desk.
“Do you have Friday Night Lies: The Bishop Sycamore Story?..Oh. Okay, Girls Like Us by Sheila Weller – that would be under Music…Oh. Something From the Oven, by Laura Shapiro?..Gosh. Don’t Touch My Hair, by Emma Dabiri?..Uh…Okay, Sweet Tooth: The Bittersweet History of Candy, by Kate Hopkins?..Okay, one more. Queuing For the Queen, by Sweta Rana…Okay, I’ll stop bothering you. Oh! The newest American Girl books, about the girls from 1999?..Okay, bye again!” ::redface::
I did find a very few books from my wish list, like The Candy House, by Jennifer Egan. But I’m very hesitant to pay full price for a lot of things, and books are no exception. I finally found a collection of short stories by this fledgling author, Tom something, I think I’ve vaguely heard of him. And a book of crossword puzzles, and a Hammond’s bar. That was just over $25, and I told Mr. Rilch he could have all the rest. He said thanks, and he’ll use it on his Nook. (I’d forgotten he has that.)
But perhaps I’m being too harsh on Ampersand. Is anyone here a regular there?
Yeah - when I ran into Food Lion after the credit union, I saw them - they were not by the regular Progresso soups, nor were they in a low-cal soup area. I dunno Anyway, I got the chicken noodle and Italian wedding soup, so I’m happy!!
Another t-shirt I want!!!
Taking a break after shoveling about 30’ of driveway - there’s a pic on my FB - I’ll friend anyone who wants to see it. Anyway, it’s lunch time plus a bit of a breather to cool down - I worked up a sweat, believe it or not!
We’re meeting SIL et al at the local hibachi for his b-day dinner, so no cooking for me! Yay! Till then, I’ll shovel some more and eventually empty the dishwasher. And I won’t overdo the shoveling - I know better than that. Thirty minutes or so, then break. We’ll see how far I get. I can use the exercise but I expect to be achy tomorrow. Such is life.
Sadie had her first barfy incident last evening, then ran and hid, which makes me wonder if she was punished in the past for it. Off her feed this morning, but I think it’s just cat behavior and nothing serious. Looks like we may need a larger litter box for her, also. At least she finally figured out what the scratching post was for. I had a moment of inspiration and laid it on its side, and she seems to like it, especially if I dose it with catnip.
We’re up to 13F this morning, and looking at mid-20s in a couple of days, which will be a relief. The forecast is for some flurry activity, but still no serious snow this winter. We may be in for another drought situation this summer.
We’re off to see the Dylan biopic in another hour. I’m not really enthused, but it will be something to do for a couple of hours. It apparently only covers his early years up to his meeting Baez, so I doubt there’s any new information.
Someone should be embarrassed, but not you.
One of my cats is a puker, and he does the same every time after he upchucks. I’ve had him since he was 4 weeks old and never punished him for it. Maybe it’s prey instinct kicking in and needing to get away from somewhere they’ve been vulnerable?
We were slammed again today.
T: “It was a shitshow yesterday, and it’s one today.”
dogbutler: "“You can’t spell ‘fuck ups’ with out ‘UPS’,”
T: “I want that on a t-shirt.”
Also some loose pins came down the belt. Triangular , and stamped "I was elevated to RBI (and Roman Numerals). I assure they are for the Illuminatti.
Happy Birthday FairyChatMom Mom and SIL!!!
In your case “Science is witchcraft!” would help you blend in.
My cough has lessened. I can actually sing a few lines from a fave worship song without coughing.
I did run out of cough med, can’t exactly afford the $3 necessary. Not to mention hot chicken noodle soup from the Chinese restaurant but thats at least $6.
Could be. Our last cat was a serial barfer and never seemed to suffer any ill effects from it. Sadie is also very weird about being handled. You can pet her with one hand and she likes it, but if you reach out both hands, she bolts. And she really doesn’t like being picked up.
I’m having fun watching videos of cars doing the slow motion slide and collision with various objects. Is it wrong of me to be amused by these? I do sympathize, as it’s zero fun for the drivers caught in that mess, and I’ve been there myself, but it seems almost like a ballet.
She just got a text from the shop. They say it’s her water pump, and it is leaking. ISTM she just had her water pump replaced several years ago, and I doubt she’s put enough miles on her car for it to fail. She says she’s not going to go back to the ‘old school’ mechanic she’s gone to before.
Just finishing up a Vegemite toastie.
I spent 2 1/2 hours at the dentist this morning. It was a total of 3 cavities (one filling was falling out), a root canal, and 9 shots of the numbing stuff. I’ve been home for about 1 1/2 hours and my mouth hurts so bad that it woke me up from a nap. I had no idea that a root canal would hurt like this.
That happened to me 4 yrs ago. It hurt During, and then throbbed all night. Still never got the crown, it twinges from time to time.
Ziva was that way till a couple of months ago - and we’ve had her since January 2009. Now all of a sudden, both FCD and I can lift her up on our bed to give her skritches or brush her. (She’s too old and unfit to get up there on her own.) Cats - gotta love 'em.
I went out to shovel some more and did another 30-40’, then decided I should try to dig out the mailbox. HAH!! The road must have been plowed twice, judging by the pile at the end of the driveway and in front of the mailbox. So I gave up on mail (we mostly just get junk anyway) and started breaking up the big chunks on the drive so my car can get out. In mid-cuss, a neighbor on a John Deere tractor with a scoop in front stopped and offered to clear for me. He did the rest of the driveway, including the mess by the street and he made a path for the mail truck to get to my mailbox! Such a lifesaver! There’s no way I could have gotten the big wet hunks out of the way of the USPS - at least not in one day. I’m back inside in wet socks - I really should change them. So no heart attack, and I’ll take some pre-emptive tylenol and hope I don’t hurt too badly.
Oh yeah - pic of the cleared drive on FB. For now, I’ll chill a bit, then empty the dishwasher. We need to leave about 4 to meet the birthday boy and his crew. So that gives me about 2 anna half hours.
When Progresso is on sale, it’s $1.49. I keep an inventory of Progresso Chicken Noodle soup as well as about half a dozen other varieties. but I also donate Progresso soup to the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry (just did so this past Sunday). You might check with the local Catholic church and find out if there is a food pantry in your vicinity.
Oh, and I’ve been curious: how much does chicken of the sea cost?
FCM Yay for helpful neighbor! Good thinking on taking the tylenol.
A can, in water, is about 1.19
Wow - sale price here is 2/$5, tho I did get a coupon for $1.75 off the purchase of 5 cans. I don’t care - even at $2.50, it’s a good, cheap lunch.

The neighborhood HS kid who was supposed to shovel my sidewalks yesterday totally flaked on me (pun intended). But, I don’t blame him; I’m 99% sure his mom overcommitted him. I won’t make that mistake again: going forward, I’ll only negotiate with labor directly! I went out at around 11am and shoveled and treated my sidewalks. I decided to skip clearing off the car and shoveling a path behind it to the street (through the snowplow mound): I might tackle that tomorrow, but I don’t need to go anywhere until Saturday so I might just keep putting it off and see how much melts naturally by the end of the week. If I do decide to free the car tomorrow, I’m hoping it will at least be less windy: it’s quite gusty at the moment, and the wind keeps blowing snow across cleared paths. (The sun and wind are at cross-purposes today!)
There’s another chance of snow on Saturday morning, but <1" and I think I saw that it will also be very dry – more sweepable than shovelable. I’m supposed to give blood that morning, and hopefully the weather won’t keep me from going to that appointment. It’s only a 40% chance right now, so maybe it won’t happen; or, maybe it’ll push to Sunday.
In other news, it’s been over a week since President Biden declared this coming Thursday a National Day of Mourning (for Jimmy Carter) and a federal holiday, and my customer is just sending out emails about it today. There have been several meetings this week where one of us has mentioned cancelling a Thursday meeting and the feds have gone “Wha…??” Sigh.
So, yeah: don’t check your mailboxes on Thursday.
HERETIC!
(You and liirogue both!! )
LOL!
Oh man, those look good! Good enough that just I looked them up on Amazon. But I haven’t had marzipan since my bariatric surgery, and am not sure how I’ll tolerate it these days: maybe I’ll start with a Ritter Sport marzipan bar sometime.
That’s how they get ya: not with a bang, but with a whimper. Welcome to the wonderful world of project management!
It just feels wrong that DC has snow but Boston doesn’t!
…but even more virtually than usual.
(But seriously, though: ugh! I hope you feel better soon!)
I read that shortly after it was released; honestly, I was underwhelmed. I’ll be very interested to hear your opinion!
Bleh. You get a , too. Along with all of your favorite soft food and drugs.
Oh, how wonderful! That’s happened to me a few times: usually, someone with a plow or in a Bobcat will be clearing the street and see me struggling with Snowplow Mountain at the foot of my driveway. It takes them 2 seconds to clear what would take me most of an hour – and, like you said, sometimes there are chunks of ice that I’d never be able to move on my own. It’s always such a relief.
I got a brand new no-stick pan at Christmas, with curved sides. Damn, it’s really slippery! Have to be careful stirring stuff or else it flies out.
Piper Mutt 2 on clean-up duty doesn’t see a problem with that, of course. Especially ground beef.
