While they make great phones and TVs, they tend to be very poorly rated for appliances.
My grandparents had one of those!
Houseirk, laundry and grocery shopping are done. Nelson has been to the dog park and had his nails clipped (he’ll get a bath tomorrow). Now to kick back.
Howdy Y’all! RDOS were we all day. It’s a wonder I bestirred myself to make the nachos for sup. Ima mess around on teh intartoobz a while and then go sleepy time. OYKW is upon the bed watchin’ teevee as I post.
Cookie yay for kitteh!
shoe and doggio I live in the south. We don’t do stuffin. We do cornbread dressin’. Yes on the cranberry sauce from the can. The “schwump” sound it makes is so satisfyin’. Plus the can shape is decorative.
Taters hubs is so right. If the gravy ain’t right, might as well throw everything else away.
That’s “ballot clerk” and “checker” here. I had the really difficult job of keeping an eye on the tabulator, checking to see why ballots were kicked back (mostly for overvoting), sending the affected people to get new ballots, handing out the “I voted” stickers, and thanking people for voting. And, of course, helping reduce the amount of potluck people would have to take home.
Never heard of the walnut-shell litter. We’ve used Arm & Hammer a couple of time, but normally buy Cat’s Pride.
We bought four of these – two “regular” and two large. Very easy to clean, and the cats seem quite happy with them.
I’m still sick but I’ve rationalized things enough to not scream. Women and gays and Hispanics all voted to give up their rights, who am I to say that they are wrong?
Poor GG had to go on a car ride today. He hates riding in cars and we didn’t have any drugs for him this time. Yesterday, Hubs found a flea on Jolene. Just one and of course both cats got checked very closely. Well, as closely as possible, GG has a whole lot of hair. The vet of course recommended Revolution but want to weigh both cats before dispensing.
GG had never been there, that was the vet who did the blood work for Jolene’s ORS.
The vet tech was maybe 4 ft 6 inches. Maybe, I’m 5’2" and I could look down at the top of her head. (Boy is that a strange feeling, LOL)
She put Jolene’s carrier on the table and Jolene strutted out and owned the exam room. Confidence is her middle name. The tech exclaimed over how cute Jolene was and of course laughed at her name while singing a few verses during the exam, then she put Jolene back in her carrier and went to grab George’s.
Hubs didn’t want her to hurt herself so put GG’ crate on the table. She looked in and her eyes got big and her mouth formed a big O and then she asked in a begging voice “Is that a real Maine Coon?”. She opened the door and grabbed him and held him with his back feets banging against her knees (he doesn’t hold on. if you want to hold him, you have to do all of the work) and ran into the back room where we heard squeals and I HAVE to touch him and I NEED a pic before bringing him back with very rumpled fur to get weighed.
He refused to go back into his carrier until they (hubs and tech) finally listened to me and let me put Jolene in his carrier for the ride home. That worked out much better, he wasn’t nearly as stressed with his thinking brain cat close. (I didn’t say “I told you so to hubs”, but he heard it anyhow. I had told him from the start to put them both in the same carrier but he was afraid they would fight because they were upset over being in the car and then we would have to try to separate them on the side of the road.)
Cookie, I’m so glad your kittah has finally got it figured out. I know she wanted to be a good kitty, but her whole world has been turned upside down so of course she needed some time. I’m so glad you gave it to her, and I hope that will be the worse problem you ever have with her.
I didn’t seem to get much done today: did laundry, took out trash, took a long call from my poor sister-in-law, took an even longer call from my sister about a legal issue her son is facing, then researched and sent an email to him. Also did a grocery order. Also tried fruitlessly to find a copy of Mom and Dad’s marriage certificate online for relatives who want to get Italian citizenship as a safety net. Oh, for the days when the US WAS the safety net! I only cleaned out one closet shelf. One. I’m a discredit to the FCM School of Efficiency and General Niceness, Dammit.
Hats off to our dedicated poll workers! I’m proud to know you. Boo, yikes. I’d like to know the rest of that story if you’re at liberty to tell it.
I thought I was ready to read news and comments on the election, but it only made me turn into Yosemite Sam: “Those dad-burned, rackin-frackin’, risson-frisson, doggone, lily-livered varmints!” I guess it’s an improvement from yesterday, when I was muttering words that had to be spelled out in punctuation marks.
This is the part I want to do! Either that, or be a greeter. Is there such a position? I planned for years to help out at the polls when I retired and was appalled when I got here and found all voting is by mail. I’ll have to look into volunteer jobs at the elections office, even if it’s only getting coffee for the people who count the ballots.
Mom didn’t do the cornbread variety, but we called it “dressing,” too. Isn’t it only stuffing if it’s stuffed into the bird? Or is stuffing your belly enough? Not for the faint-hearted: my aunt, who had zero cooking genes, once made the dressing from leftover grilled cheese sandwiches. It was a sad, sad Thanksgiving.
My mother has entered the chat. Or she would have if she were not in the Great Perhaps.
Cookie, so glad the kitty is doing a litter bit better!
I’m never sure of what day it is anymore. They all seem to run together.
It was a pretty nice day weather wise. I have no idea wtf was up with traffic today.
It sucked all day every where we went.
I was able to knock a good number of items off the ToDo List.
On a sad note, one of the two guys who used to live next door died this morning. He wasn’t that old and it was not expected.
I’ll need to invite the other one over, he is taking it very hard.
Not a vulture FCM
Money/property stuff has to be done. Better to handle as much as possible before you are forced to do it.
My son needs to have a will.
I’ve got the first two, need to make arrangements for the rest one of these days.
30 posts to catch up with, I’ll do my best. As for me, the Golden Corral trip went off without a problem and I filled up on pot roast, potatoes, soup and salad and several desserts, so a big caloric hit early on. Got swimming done this afternoon and went back tonight to get biking and treadmilling in, so I had my cake and sweated it out all in one day.
Did my good deed for the week, there’s an old guy (I know, I’m 72, but he seems older) who often walks down the main road a couple miles to Kroger and back, I think more for something to do than any major shopping. The stars (and traffic) aligned today so I stopped and gave him a ride down and back, he was pretty talkative but with a real thick southern accent I had trouble understanding him, but we managed.
Taters, I have a Frigidare and while it doesn’t leak water, the light in the freezer compartment is out and nobody can figure out how to replace it, the ‘owner’s manual’ is no help and several You Tube videos don’t look like anything I see in it. So I manage by the light in the kitchen and live with it.
FCM, glad laundry day went well. And be careful of those invites to dinner, if my Brother/SIL have other plans…and Yea! on coupon.
And adding my Conga-rats to all you who volunteered to work on democracy in action. Even if it got a little scary for our BBBoo.
Cupcakes, interesting story. Rather hope that the "Underground Railroad’ remains a historical and not a modern thing. And your quote is both humorous and accurate…IMHO.
Cookie, still keeping appendages crossed that you feline settles in.
Oopsie, sounds like the landscapers were trained by lumberjacks, I would let them know it was not what you ordered.
JtC, glad GG survived his ordeal and made a bunch of new friends.
Sari, sorry to hear about your neighbor, but I agree, today just seemed to move faster than usual.
And that’s all for the late report at Casa Rat. Catch y’all tomorrow.
Thanks very much nellie
It’s been a year. Things started seeming like it was getting better for Hubs, he was pretty much able to take care of himself in July and August, which was good because I had to go to Chicago to take care of our daughter and her pup as she had surgery for a root tear of her meniscus. I came home at the end of the 3rd week of August. Had a brief respite from caretaking and then on Labor Day Hubs came down with a horrible rash over 70% of his body. Turned out to be GvHD (Graft vs Host Disease) which is something that a stem cell transplant patient can get. Then it attacked his intestinal tract and he had to go into the hospital for 11 days end of Sept/ beginning of Oct. He’s still recovering from the saline IV which went interstitial. So, I really didn’t read much of the mmp’s during the summer or early fall. I’ve read last week’s thread and about 1/3 of the week before that. Trying to keep up with this week’s thread but today was very busy.
Started out putting a load of laundry in. Then went to work and just scanned documentation for 2 days to the Treasury Dept and printed out more that I can work on over the weekend. Went immediately downstairs to hang up the laundry and drat, it hadn’t washed because I had forgotten to turn the water pipes on. So did that then walked Bella around the block so she could take care of business. Then went Krogering and racked up over 400 points toward gas. Once home I hung up the laundry then made lunch for self and daughter then washed dishes. Made dinner: pierogi (2 Nashville Hot Chicken, 3 Beef Short Rib, 2 Mushroom & Onion, 2 Sweet Potato, 3 Potato Garlic, 1 Sauerkraut, 2 Potato Garlic & Chive, 2 Potato & Farmers Cheese, 2 Cherry), sauteed onions and broccoli. My BFF invited us over for a bonfire and what a bonfire it was. The flames reached close to 7 ft high at the height of the burn. My friend got out a hose and shot water at a nearby tree and all around the perimeter of the fire. Then she gave us 2 doz fresh eggs and she ground 4 different kinds of coffee beans for the kids (daughter and her friend) to take with them.
Unfortunately (for me), you all have been mighty verbose today and now i’m 36 posts behind. But I’m close to falling asleep at the keyboard so I’ll try to catch up tomorrow in between preparations for our Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow evening.
'Member my father’s missing birthday gift? Looks like I was taken in by %&#@! scammers.
I am so utterly beyond pissed at myself, and I feel so stoopit - plus, I thought I finally found something he’d like & might make him briefly happy (the man is the living definition of “difficult to shop for”) and so to put a lovely cherry on a shit-cupcake, I’m really disappointed, too, because he may be an absolute turd sometimes but he’s still my dad, and we sometimes get along really well.
Well, used to, mostly, but good memories count for something, right?
Now my debit card is probably compromised, so I have MOAR adulting to do, like I don’t have enough on my plate or in my brain.
To top it off, I found all this out on my lunch break on Long Night, and could barely eat. Came back to our parking lot stressed all to hell, just in time to encounter a homeless? crackhead? I dunno what her deal was, but she spent quite a bit of time yelling at me while I sat in my car with the doors locked - and the timer on my phone counting down the last seconds of my so-called “break” - until S.M. came outside like a knight in shining armor and used what we’d here refer to as her version of a night nurse voice.
She really is sweet, but when that woman means business, she friggin’ means it.
I came back in to the kitchen just shook, though … I still haven’t had a chance to deal with the bank ramifications yet … and I am just SO DONE with this entire hellhole of a week.
… and then proceeds to list quite a lot of things!
I think you totally earned a wowwipop.
(Not gonna lie, I grabbed one for myself off the break table when we were wrapping up - after being pleasantly surprised there were any left - because life is kinda shitty and sometimes even a grown-ass woman needs a lollipop.)
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. * YAWN* ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and mostly cloudy. My Dawgs play Sippimissi at three-thirty this afternoon. That’s the big item on today’s agenda. We shall have a late N.O.L. of what I call hobo steak so that can be done before the game. It may be hard to squeeze in nappage, but I’ll do my best.
{{{shoe}}} hope you get the debit card woes fixed soonest. You deserve extra lollipops.
nellie I needed my pearls, faintin’ couch, and smellin’ salts after readin’ what your aunt did.
VanGo hope you’re feelin’ better today.
Cat_Glove glad hubs is doin’ better now. Also glad the bonfire didn’t burn down the ‘hood.
sari sorry about your neighbor.
MetalMouse we might need an English to Southern translator then. Although I can tone it down if need be.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/46f with no predicted change, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy outside and I don’t fucking like it.” Consider us told! I don’t mind it being cloudy, as long as it’s dry out there.
I’m glad you managed to find an arrangement that makes her feel safer and she’s been able to use the litter tray. Looking forward to seeing pics when she’s brave enough to sit still and pose.
I love the fact that they’ve bonded so closely, GG finally has a brain!
That’s how it should be, stuffing is stuffed into the bird. We just call it stuffing, no matter where it is I’ve never cooked a bird with stuffing inside it, we had all sorts of dire warnings about food poisoning as a result of doing that - I doubt it was really due to stuffing, just that the bird wasn’t cooked properly. Anyway, stuffing was cooked in an enamel dish in the bottom of the oven. Mum never used that dish for anything else, it was known as the stuffing dish!
Hurrah! That must have made you feel better, it’s always good to cross things of that list. I’m sorry to hear about your neighbour though, you’re kind to think of inviting the other guy to visit, he will appreciate that.
Oopsie I’m sorry to hear that the landscapers were rather ruthless with your garden
{{{{{VanGo}}}}}
I’m sorry that all of this has piled on top of what was already a pretty crappy week. I hope you get your banking stuff sorted out quickly and painlessly. You definitely deserve that lollipop!
Cat Glove I’m glad to hear that Hubs is doing better now, that’s a lot of stress for you too.
Swampy Happy Doperversary!
We had a fun night out yesterday seeing a couple of bands at the Giffard, we chatted to a couple of the guys and bought some CDs. We stayed for a drink afterwards but the pub was packed (there was a sold-out gig at the other venue in town) so we walked up to the Posada instead and had a couple of drinks there before going home.
I have no big plans for today - the cats have been fed and the litter trays are clean, I could go into town but there’s nothing I really need today that I can’t get from the supermarket on Tuesday when we do the grocery shopping. I have someone coming on Monday to measure up for new curtains so I do need to give the windows a bit of a clean, and I need to rollsuck the carpets. That’s a job for today or tomorrow, depending on how I feel about it. No rush, just needs doing by Monday.
My day started too early, but I spent the first coupla hours playing mindless games on my tablet. Then shower and clothing, followed by stripping and remaking our bed and dumping the ashes from the pellet stove before firing it up - it’s getting chilly again and MIL doesn’t do chilly (altho for her, 80° is chilly.)
FCD went to Wendy’s and brought me back some breakfast, so yay for that. And, alas, MIL got up before 7, so I don’t know how long my computer time will last before I have to make her food. FCD learned last night that you can’t leave her alone at all. He made her a bagel with cream cheese, but forgot the cinnamon sugar (which she puts on everything) so she went to get her own… on the bagel… and the counter… and the floor. She won’t ask for help because she doesn’t want to bother us, but it took him 3 times as long to clean up after her as the “bother” would have been. end of whine for now.
I’m hoping we can get the mulcher/vac running so I can take care of the leaves in the yard. Otherwise, I’ll drive John Deere around in such a way as to blow the chopped up leaves into the woods as much as possible. I also need to dig up the name and number of the guy who cleaned our gutters in the spring so he can de-leaf them next month.
And I found him - yay! Booked him on line - yay! Last gutter guy had his own folder in Outlook, but I deleted it when he went out of business, So now this guy will get a folder. And life is good.
Good Saturday morning all. Up early but for the first time in 2 or more months I don’t have youth soccer to coach or referee, so will have to find something else to keep me busy today. There is about a 1-in-3 chance of rain this weekend and temps will only get to 73F, so sloth seems to be indicated. We’ll see if some ambition gets a hold of me later on.
shoe. ah, fecal matter… Hope Dad is in an understanding mood. And in times like these I am reminded of a old quote “I am wounded but I am not dead; I’ll lay me down and bleed awhile and then arise and fight again.”
boo fae, you always seem to have fun nights out. Nothing that entertaining close to me.
FCM, think I’ll strip and flip the bed mattress today, will give me some exercise and is well overdue. And good for and active (if occasionally frustrating) morning.
Cat Glove, thanks for the update, you haven’t been forgotten but obviously life had handed you some more important duties and here’s hoping Hub’s is through the worst of his recovery. And surprised that bonfire didn’t bring the Fire Department out!
{{VanGo"}}, sounds like you need some. Take care.
Time to break fast and be off with the day. Take care all.
At 4:58 a.m., it’s 46F and mostly cloudy, and sunrise doesn’t occur until 7:05 a.m. Rain will develop this afternoon, and our high temperature will top out at 58F.
I spent yesterday blowing fir tree needles off my back porch and off my remaining little lawn. I also raked any of the giant-leaf maple leaves that had fallen onto my lawn and put all of them, plus the downed branches, in my grass bin. There were a lot of leaves. I leave the leaves (hah) in my “garden” area because they break down, but in the meantime, they provide food and damp, hidey spaces for bugs for the birds. Watching the varied thrushes and towhees scratch up the leaves and find food for themselves under the leaves is fun.
After that, I took down the bird feeders and washed all of them. The seed feeders will be put away, but I will hang the bark butter and suet feeders to remove the remaining bricks. Since the loud, noisy, trash-burying neighbors moved in, rats have also moved in. Even though I use no-mess seed blends, plus have trays under the tube feeders, I don’t want any excuse for the rodents to think there is food in my yard. It saddens me; I loved watching all the birds enter my yard, and chickadees often took food right off my hand.
Today, I’ll vacuum and finish dusting. I think I’ll also watch the light fixtures. I wash them every six months or so, but for some reason, they seem particularly dirty, even though I dust them between washings.
If I don’t do household chores, I might run errands, mainly to get out of the house. It depends on when the rain will actually move in.
Shoe, I’m sorry you’ve had such a crap week.
Kittenmitten, I’m glad to see you back, but I’m sorry about all the health issues with your husband.
VanGo, please take care of yourself.
Okay, time for a little more coffee and I should feed the pups while I’m at it.
