Paris Hilton - Out of jail after 3 days???

Story here.

I’m not a big Paris fan. In fact, I wouldn’t know anything about her or what is going on if I didn’t read it right here on the Dope, but it strikes me that the one acting the most childish here is the judge. Getting all pouty about how the sentence is carried out after being handed over to the sheriff is kinda dickish.

The way Shepherd Smith is delighting in mocking her crying in the courtroom is more than a little classless. What a sadistic, unprofessional dick.

UncleRojelio, I don’t see the problem. We have someone who signed an agreement, in writing, that she understood that she couldn’t drive.

And drove anyway.

It is a prime example of the kind of person who has been trusted by the courts to do the right thing, and who abused that trust. I completely understand why the courts would declare her unfit for electronic home monitoring. After somebody jumps bail once, you don’t let him post bail a second time, right?

The fact that people are cackling with glee over the fact that she was sobbing and screaming, “Mom. Mom. Mom!” is just disgusting to me. On other gossip sites, everyone is laughing at this picture.

Says more about the people laughing than it does about the distressed girl sobbing and asking her mother for help.

Oh, and she’s now being forced to serve the full 45 days, rather than the shorter sentence.

Yeah, it says that people are no longer falling for the “poor, poor pitiful me” crap. Well, most people.

Oh, phooey on distress. She put herself in this position, she has no one to blame but herself. I feel no sympathy for her. She’s a spoiled little brat who is realizing she can’t bat her eyes and get her way in this situation.

Right, but she didn’t jump bail. She went to jail like she was supposed to. The sheriff decided, like he does for just about everybody else in jail, to release her. Whether she was released because of overcrowding or because she was crying herself into depression doesn’t matter. What matters is that she was released by the sheriff, who’s job it is to run the jail as he sees fit. Now, the judge, in a spectacularly dickish move, orders her picked up and returned to jail. In effect, she is being punished now for the actions of the sheriff. Methinks the judge has some kind of hard on for Paris.

I think it is terrible. They are totally doing it because of the pressure they got from people when she was released. CNN reports that the sheriff’s dept. got more than 400 emails complaining that she got released.http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/06/08/paris.hilton.ap/index.html

Its ridiculous. You would think the president got shot the way the press is all over this. For a bunch of people who hate Paris Hilton, they all seem right on top of the story and have comments to make over every little development. I feel sorry for the girl. I’ve known habitual drug and DUI offenders to get less time than what she is serving.

How is she being punished for the actions of the sheriff? She’s being punished exactly as much as the sentence required.

The judge had agreed to lower her sentence to 23 days. All was well and good. The Sheriff let her out after 3 (but technically 5). Now the judge is pissed and upped her sentence back to 45.

I can get sending her back to jail if the original sentence said “no ankle bracelet,” “no house arrest,” etc.

What I don’t understand is the justice of re-setting her sentence at 45 days. The fact that her jailer opened the door and let her out, for whatever reason, is not her fault. The 12-day reduction was set by a judge before she even went to jail.

And this from somebody who believes Paris Hilton is a rich, spoiled brat in general.

Plus, what DiosaBellisima has been saying.

CNN’s running as their lead article the return of Paris to lockup (and her associated sobfest). In the name of FSM, why are they giving her more publicity??? Is today really that slow of a news day?

If you want some true schadenfreude, head over to Fark and check out the thread regarding this.
Hysterical.

It is common practice for inmates to be released early for a whole host of reasons. How often do you hear of the sentencing judge getting their panties in a twist in those cases? The news this morning said the serving 10% of the sentence is normal for LA County Jail. Seems to me that Paris served as much time as anyone else would of for a misdemeaner. The judge is just acting like an ass for the publicity. Next he’ll be running for office.

I don’t understand how the sentencing is supposed to work, when it’s technically 45 days, but she’s unofficially allowed to serve only 23 for good behavior. What’s on the actual… uh… paperwork?

It wasn’t unofficial, it was very official (or that’s my understanding). The judge OFFICIALLY reduced her sentence to 23 because she was being compliant or whatever. But now, the judge has revoked his own order and set the sentence back to the original amount because he’s pissy at the sheriff.

Innnnteresting. I could see her being compelled to serve the 23 days on the paperwork, in that case.

The JUDGE did not officially reduce anything. The Sheriff department issued a statement BEFORE Paris ever served a day that THEY were reducing her sentence for good behavior. Good behavior she has yet to show, btw.

Ah, well there ya go. That’s what I get for following what’s on the gossip websites. Y

That said, how has she yet to show good behavior? She turned herself in early. She was apparently doing everything she needed to do, but she just couldn’t stop sobbing. Which, you know, isn’t that surprising- she’s in jail, fer cryin’ out loud. She was then LET OUT, she didn’t break out. She was told she could call into the court this morning, but was then told she needed to come in. She came in.

What did she do to constitute bad behavior?
