Peach Iced Tea and Job Huntin’… The MMP

No school, but us 12-monthers (a different breed in a school district populated by 9 and 10 month employees) are working today.

But me? I have resolved that I will do NOTHING productive at all today. Any moment now, the tech folks are going to walk in the door with my new laptop, and I figure I’ll spend the rest of the day getting it all set up so it’s cozy and feels at home under my fat, slow fingers.

But, see, that’s work. I mean you have to get it set up just right and all so you can be productive. I’ve always been good at justifyin’ goofin’ off.

'Allo from the ranch to alla ya [del]suckers[/del] poor sods what has to work today.

I have been very lazy all morning but need to get into gear and get out and do my shopping.

::worriedly checks through the blinds since “no snow” signs have been in the attic since the first of March:: Nope! Phew! Sun is shining. Birds are singing.

I’m thinking ribs tonight for dinner lessen I find something I want more.

Condolences to all who need them.

mbg, we wanna hear what the doc says.

Inappropriate appendages still crossed, swampy. All aminals are keee-ute! Maybe your mama’s girly tiel and my boy tiel could have a date? He whistles the Andy of Mayberry theme and barks like the chihuahua.

Is somebody on for Monday?

Tupug

I have to work today. Mom didn’t, but she had to bring me to work, and she always gets up at the buttcrack of dawn anyway. So she was awake and showered when I woke up at 6:30. Bah, morning people. How can they do it?

I was playing a fun little game called Stand O Food. You have to make sandwiches and serve them to a line of impatient people. One sandwich you can make consists of a meat patty between two lettuce leaves. For some reason, I thought this was funny. It seems that you can get that on the secret menu at that one burger chain in California or somewheres.

The azaleas were purty. We have good ones here too. Mom was thinking of planting some at home.

:hugs everyone in thread, whether they need it or not:

Good morning, all! I am an endless font of good news today.

  1. Dance class was phenomenal…I think we all had too much Lucky Charms beforehand because we were a crazy bunch.
  2. We are getting out at 2 PM today, for some holiday or something. (Ok, sometimes it’s nice to live in a Christian world. Then again in India, I’d get Diwali off.)
  3. My boss just left for the day! Woohoo!

I have a link for you all. You must have heard of Knut? Well I just love the little pink tongue in this picture!

More later.

Hello everyone! This has been a busy and startling week for me. It’s spring break for my children, so I’ve been off most of the week. I told you earlier about the aquarium, then I took Le Hub in for his colonoscopy (thrillsville) and THEN my mom took the kids and I on a local horse farm tour, just because. Why OH WHY didn’t I realize that 30 degrees means THIRTY COLD FRICKIN’ DEGREES. Nooo. I guess I thought it would “warm up.” Yeah, right. We had on SWEATERS. But anyway, it was edumacational and picturesque and nice if we didn’t have to go outside.

But what I mostly wanted to tell was my poor brother’s horrible tragedy. He lives in a condo community, and rents his unit. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: The ENTIRE PLACE BURNED DOWN. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: A total loss. During the terrible storms which came through the other night, when it went from 80 degrees here to 30 or whatever, apparently lightning struck! My poor brother. Everything gone. Thankfully neither he nor his kids were home when it happened. But everything gone. Can you imagine?? He is divorced, and his children only have a few of their things there. He is in another city, but can stay at his girlfriend’s home for now. There’s a whole photo gallery of the fire in the newspaper.

I’m just in shock and wish I could help him! Of course you know we just donated our extra washer and dryer in December. After they sat in the basement for three years. :smack: I do have some endtables and I microcwave and stuff we no longer use, and he can have whatever he needs.

Hi Meeks! Thanks for the hugs! hugs right back atcha

I am in a good mood today as well, and the best part is there’s no particular reason for it. I’m just  today. On the agenda is finishing my Stat Mech homework, starting my Math homework, and possibly going to this event tonight that will raise funds for breast cancer by selling wine, cheese, and chocolate. What could be bad?

Ellen, sorry to hear about your brother. I hope he can get back on his feet.

Tel, I don’t understand morning people either. They must be androids.

And Knut is CUTE. Lookit that tongue!

That’s sure one cute bear (but swampy’s cuter ;))

ow. my back. ow. that is all.

I have a zillion things to do today (last day of vacation and all) and no desire or energy for any of them. I will spend an hour on the heating pad then off to errands.
later, all.

Wow Ellen, sorry to hear about your brother. Glad to hear that no one was hurt though. I think I can say that an apartment fire is one of the things I fear the most. I know that they say that it is just ‘stuff’, but I kind of like my stuff. It would take me years to replace my collection of books, and many of the older and rarer ones I couldn’t replace at all shudder.

Still cold here, but at least its not snowing… as much as it was yesterday. Grrrrrr

I am starting to get the impression from this thread (and seeing giant rabbits in the mall. That is seeing giant rabbits in the mall that other people can see as well.) that Easter is approaching, I honestly did not know it was this Sunday. Even back when I lived with my uber-religious parents (and was uber-religious myself) for some reason we never actually celebrated Easter with any sort tradition or ritual, it was just another day that we went to church. And since Easter is a Sunday there was never really anything to mark it as an occasion.

Afternoon, everyone! I have been so productive today, you just wouldn’t believe it. I was up early this morning to read the last 140 pages of my course book. Then I decided which question (choice of two) I was going to use for my final paper. Then I wrote my sketchy plan. Then we went grocery shopping, during which 'im indoors decided two very important things - firstly, he’s cooking dinner tonight which means he’s doing something for himself that can also be done easily as a veggie version for me, and secondly he’s just started a limited company and now we have champagne in the fridge to celebrate with later.

After all that excitement, I came home to start on my paper. And y’know what? I’ve finished it! That’ it, I’m free, no more grad school for me!

Ellen - really sorry to hear about your brother’s news. It was lucky nobody was hurt but to me it’s unimaginable to lose everything like that. I know “stuff” can be replaced, but I really wouldn’t know where to start with some of the stuff in this house. I’ll be sending some good thoughts his way.

Rosie - how are you feeling today? Are your aches and pains better yet?

Swampy - I wouldn’t be too scared of Welby, it’s his wife you need to hide from!

Oh, one other bit of good news, I drove to the supermarket today and you remember that new tyre I put on the car the other day? Well, it hasn’t fallen off yet!

Ya’ll need to get on to the CanineServant - he’s gloating that he still has hockey left and I don’t! Whaaaaaaaaaaa! Tonight is the last gathering of the season. No game. sniff

Ellen, sorry to hear about your brother’s loss, but glad no one was hurt. That reminds me, I need to take pictures of the hockey jerseys and put them in the safe-deposit box.

Hopefully Mr. SCL will be able to get the washing machine fixed today. All it needs is a hose, which he is going to pick up now. I need to do laundry and I do not do laudromats!

Happy Friday, everyone!

I did some laundry, walked the dog, and Roombaed. Rod didn’t lock himself in the bathroom, so he must be feeling better.

BooFae, yay productivity! Congrats to 'im indoors.

SCL, you can watch the Carolina game on Yahoo(works best with IE). Maybe you’ll see me.

Ellen, sorry about your brother.

rosie, I am sorry your back is still hurting.

Spats, I am not an android, I just like getting up at the crack of dawn.

Skunk has figured out how to revenge himself for being pilled. He goes under the computer desk, while I’m sitting here, and farts. Multiple times. Gah! Then he runs away. Little stinker.

I got startitis last night, and cast on for my first lace project, the Dragon Scale Scarf. (Startitis is a knitterly affliction where you start new projects before finishing the ones that are already in progress.)

**Ellen, that’s awful news about your brother! Like others have said, I’m glad he wasn’t hurt. I’ll keep him in my thoughts and prayers.

I went to the noon Good Friday service and was layreader, so I done my good deed. Then I came home and had a tuna fish salad sammich.

doggio quit bein’ mean to Snakes or there will be no hockey, young man! I mean it! Don’t look at me like that!

BooFae yay on finishing the paper and on the tyre (y’all spell so funny!) not fallin’ off.

Ok, somebody asked earlier about the artful arrangement of flowers on the steps. I can’t remember who and can’t be bothered to go back and look, so get over it. The steps used to lead up to the back porch at mom’s. When she remodeled, that back porch got turned into her plant room. It’s also where Lucy lives. Thus the steps no longer lead to a back porch. My BIL and I offered to move 'em (they’re free standing) but mom decided to paint the steps instead and use it to display flowers when she puts 'em out in the spring. I gotta admit, it looks kinda good, especially since she has flower beds planted on either side.

Hmmm… y’all think welby was really sayin’ he’d send his wife?

Jah, sounds like Skunk is livin’ up to his name!

swampy, I’m trying to help. TV hockey is better than no hockey.

Ellen, I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. At least he and his family are okay.

I have major thesis work to do this weekend - we have a complete draft due next Monday. It’s off to the library for me.

Now that I’m through squealing on DB pickin on me, I’ll tell ya’ll about the weird dream I had last night. For some reason an alarm was set to go off in my house, and when it went off all the lights in the house started blinking on and off and these really loud alarms were sounding. I ran to turn off the alarm. To do this I had to enter a complicated code on the touchpad of my oven. This touchpad has issues; it works when and if it feels like it. So I’m standing in my kitchen with lights flashing and sirens blaring and the stupid alarm won’t stop and I keep punching this code in and every time I make a mistake and have to start over…

Why, yes, I am still taking that drug for restless leg, why do you ask?

Bartender, I’ll have what Snakes is havin’.

I just had a nap. It was good. That is all.

So, who wants to know how to grout a shower pan? I didn’t think so. I came home early and took my sweetie out to lunch. Afterwards, while he was finishing the heating duct, I cleaned up and organized the rooms, then loaded the van for a trek to the convenience center. We took all the trash and recyclables, then came home, mixed grout, and placed the shower pan. After cleaning the tools, we decided to quit. I’ve watered my plants. The critters have been fed. We are in the bum mode till tomorrow.

I got my grades to date in class last night - I’ve got an 88%. Since I thought I was taking it not-for-credit it doesn’t matter what I get, but on one level, it bothered me to read the comments she made about my work. For example, she gigged me on one piece because it was small. The assignment sheet said nothing about a size limit. Whatever. But the main thing I got gigged on was the “artistic merit” grades. How does one grade on that? I mean, I can’t stand Jackson Pollock’s works - I see no artistic merit in any of it, yet he’s supposedly some kind of genius. So how does Ada know I’m not an artistic genius??

Ya know, it bothers me that it bothers me because I’m not taking this class for a degree - I’m taking it for me, and I know I’m learning stuff.

Speaking of class, I can’t wait till my latest piece gets fired. It’s HUGE!!! I used slabs of clay formed over a pot to make a big flowerpot. I textured the outside using a magnolia seed pod. Then I took more slabs and formed them over a flat-bottomed plastic bowl to make the saucer for under the flowerpot, textured with the same pod. I’m going to use a sponge technique to apply underglaze. It is going to be one cool pot!

And on that note, I’m gonna go make some dinner-like substances. TGIF!!!

I been to the doctor. She says I’m CRAZY. She gave me crazy people drugs and told me to keep the head shrinker appointment in a couple weeks after I’ve taken these crazy pills for a couple weeks.

Ok, off to feed the cats…
