I don’t believe you.

It’s not being American that causes people to miss your incisive wit and dry British sarcasm. It’s just their terribly small feet.

You forget things a lot. Maybe you should start keeping a journal?

Waitaminute, I say Wordy Jackoff writes terrible haikus and suddenly I’m racist against the japanese, but jsgoddess gets away with disliking the entire artform with nary an aspersion! Fie, I say, fie!

See how the patriarchy harms men? SEE?

Did you say I write terrible haikus? I must have missed that (I write unorthodox haikus, but some of them have pretty good for a crass westernisation of the form). I recall you being dismissive of haikus as a tiny form, rather than the inherently superior (in your view) epic poem - which is why I remarked on your cultural racism. It’s why you’re not an egalitarian, I expect - feminism allows for racist feminists.

As for jsgoddess, well, work it out for yourself, I’m obliged to remain silent on the matter apparently. There are a handful of posters you may notice my not responding to. It doesn’t currently include you, but never say never

I love how your inability to understand the written word translates to your inability to understand the rules of this forum and yet claim to be victimized by them somehow.

I continue amazed at the need both to place people on ignore lists and to make it clear one has done so.

Oh, I doubt there’s actually anyone on his ignore list. He wouldn’t want to miss anything that makes it all about him.

I have repeatedly told you to leave me alone. I do not understand your refusal to do so. Do not address me again.

The best way to avoid being addressed is to avoid addressing. He enjoys this.

You can repeatedly tell me anything you like, it’s a public messageboard. Imagining I’m somehow obliged to do anything you tell me is, however, a mild form of mental illness. You’re deluded, you’re in the grip of some ego-driven misconception that the rest of the world should put your whims at the head of their priorities (or, I suppose, you’re just building up to some kind of manufactured harassment charge, as previously alluded to). There are at least two easy solutions that you can implement, that solve your ‘problem’, and which are entirely and rightly within your control.

Yep, that’s the other one. Take note, j666.

Yep, it’s true, j666. Of course, I’m assuming everyone engaged in this bizarre ritual is enjoying it on some level (though I’d welcome hearing from anyone who struggles to overcome their deep-rooted aversion to schoolyard name-calling on the internet, is nonetheless compelled to do so by the overwhelming moral imperative to save the world and all its adorable puppies from the unbeliever, and having done so vomits copiously due to the internal stress of it all). You enjoy it, Emiliana. j666 enjoys it too, don’t you, you scamp!

j666 feels the need, but appears unable to do so. I implore you to help the poor unfortunate, if you’re at all inclined to make the world a better place. For myself, the former is not a need, it’s a convenience, and the latter I’ve always thought of as a courtesy - though in this case, it was more in the manner of an explanation that even whatshisname deserved (so I suppose in that sense also a courtesy - you can look up ‘courtesy’ in any dictionary, I expect there are also online guides to help you get to grips with yet another way to actually make the world a better place). And yes, it would have been a courtesy to look up thingy’s name, but he’s a racist and I have to draw the line somewhere…

No, they didn’t. Or if they did the asshat who translates “don’t talk to me” into “you’re a monster” is playing the victim card just as much.

And when it comes to intellectual capabilities … If you didn’t intend to use “victim” the same way in two closely spaced utterings in the same thread, you’re an idiot for not grasping the latter would be interpreted in light of the first. If you did intend it, you’re just an idiot.

Also, this is the pit. It’s intended for blowing off steam and ignoring the rules of discussion. It’ll be just as bad no matter what time of the year.

Don’t address me.

I thought it was against the rules to discuss the Ignore and Buddy functionality. I see that it is allowed in the pit, but it still seems unacceptable to me. I guess really nothing is tabu here.

There are times when “don’t feed the troll” is useless advice. This is not one of them. You’re being a dumbass.

Oh but ze did - the repetition of the ‘request’ confirmed that…as did your immediate acknowledgement that you couldn’t really sustain the claim you opened with: “if they did” (they did). I was playing the hyperbole card, rather than the victim card, and you’re playing the tu quoque card, which doesn’t do what you seem it think it does.

I use victim in exactly the same way each time I use it, which is to say its meaning. I’m unsure which pair of closely-spaced ‘utterings’ you’re referring to, but I expect the difference would have been in the degree of impact, rather than the meaning of the word. It’s anyone who thinks the word can have no grades of meaning, even when the context demands that that be recognised, who is the idiot. ‘Pretentious’ can also be graded in that way. Wearing a crown to work and asking your colleagues to call you ‘Your Majesty’ would be very pretentious. Using the word ‘utterings’, in any context, slightly less so.

And yes, it’s the Pit, all year round - but I can’t help feeling that some posters in particular will have less free time come September.

I will take great pains to remember that you would prefer not to be addressed by me, j666. How would you prefer me not to address you?

Sure. Lots of industries/businesses/professions in the US slow during the summer. I know I’ll be busier in a few weeks as people end their summer vacations when their kids get back into school.
