I dunno, man. He’s said at some point that he has Asperger’s, hasn’t he? It seems pretty clear to me that he’s not really grasping when people are being serious and when they aren’t, so from his perspective it’s all totally above-board and playing by the rules of formal debate. It’s not like he’s going to start evaluating his position now, when his opponents are all these stupid idiots who are so stupid they think his literal first four posts, 1, 2, 3 and 4 literally should have gotten him literally banned, and he can so easily comprehensively destroy them with his high concepts and long words he mostly knows the definitions of.
I am just so exhausted by it. He’s talks about all the pit thread participants who "insist
" that he is a “buddy,” or even “sock puppet” of Linus - wasn’t that suggested ONCE? Hardly insisting. He mentions “20% of women,” and seems to think that that is the same figure as “20% of Americans.” He rather sneeringly responded to my point that 200 feminists managed to get the Men’s day cancelled, and in reaction over 2000 feminists signed a petition to reinstate. Neither are very large numbers, but which is more likely to represent mainstream feminist thought? He and Linus have decided that they know the truth of the matter, and it doesn’t matter how many feminists contradict their views - we are mislead and misinformed and they know the truth.
The bloom is off the rose, for me, and only part of it is due to Jack’s overwrought purple prose. I think I need to use my ignore list.
I still vote for Jack off Words, because let’s face it, that’s what he’s doing with his posts.
I can’t get over the irony that when men thump their chests and blather on and on and on (and on and on and on…) about how feminism sucks and there’s no need for it, their weak arguments and thinly veiled (if at all) misogyny just makes me more like “FEMINISM YAY!”
They are textbook examples of hurting their own cause.
I mean, I don’t agree with every feminist position, assuming we could even agree what the platform is other than just general equality. There are plenty of feminist thinkpieces that make me roll my eyes. But it’s a movement, not a monolith.
And it’s quite the mosaic of a movement at that. There are feminists that make me roll my eyes, or even back away slowly. But that is not the whole of the ideology. It’s barely even the edge of it. And the idea that an antifeminist knows better than I what the core beliefs are - well, that is what makes it hard to avoid that damn thread.
We’ve lost a contributor (so long Jack) and CCitizen is back. That thread is like a horror movie. Just when you think the monster is dead, it pops back up.
I think we can also add a new contributor to the list of freaking idiots: TM, who thinks that women don’t want doors open because we’re PMSing. What a complete and utter maroon, to quote Bugs Bunny. And who are these women who don’t want the door held for them. I, myself, say thank you or nod to acknowledge the kindness. I also hold the door open for others.
I can say that the thread has risen to the level of mildly entertaining again. Always some new whackadoodle to laugh at.
I’ve had college-age women snark at me once or twice for it, but 99.999% of people are fine with it. And absolutely nobody has made a scene or really made an effort around taking me to task for it.
It’s one of those things that happens, albeit extremely rarely, and somehow morphed into a rally cry for men’s rights types. The weird thing is that the whole thing doesn’t fit into their narrative about how feminists want special treatment. Feminist women are somehow both extreme harpies that want to upend society, neuter and feminize men, and make themselves princesses; and yet also for some reason reject having doors open for them because something something patriarchy?
To be fair, I think it does have to do with feminism, but only tangentially. These women are feminists in the same way as that one guy who won’t. Shut. Up. About. Marx. in your freshman dorm is a Marxist. Trying, but not really grasping the subtleties and body of work around the philosophy.
The thing is, it’s not like there’s nothing in the way some feminists present their arguments that’s worth criticizing. Especially when you get into the interplay of “grassroots” cis, white feminism and the more immediate, soundbite-driven, rapidly moving mob-justice culture that Twitter and small blog communities engender. Hell, some of the once-useful terminology like “agency” and “male gaze” have been browbeaten into near meaninglessness. I’ve wanted to have a conversation on this article for a long time, because it criticizes a lot of the problems I see with wholesale condemning works, instead of just critiquing them, because they don’t pass an impossible standard of ideological purity. AKA “I want a cookie for liking the right things” feminism.
But it’s impossible to have a good discussion about it, because it always ends up getting hijacked into this weird SEE FEMINISTS ARE EVIL rhetoric we’re seeing in LinusK’s thread.
Huh, I didn’t even notice that. So we have.
I find it irritating under certain circumstances. Like when a man is on the outside and opens a door that opens inside in such a way that you have to brush past. Or when you’re a ways from the door and someone opens the door and stands there impatiently, expecting you to hurry up to go through the door they have opened. Or when the venue is crowded and the door opener gets separated from his party and there’s nothing for the party to do but stand just on the other side of the door, getting in the way.
The lesson for me is open a door because it works for the flow of traffic, not because it makes me feel good about myself.
The rare occasions I’ve found stuff like door opening irritating is when it involves the guy brushing past against me in order to do so. Dude, if you want to be the door opener for me then you need to be on ghe correct side and ahead of me. If not, let me open the door and you can open the rest.
That too.
Or, grr, the very rare occasions where someone has gotten snippy because in a big bank of doors I went through a different one than they opened. Or when there are two sets and someone expects me to wait for them to get ahead of me to open the second set. That stuff doesn’t feel like someone trying to make my life easier. It feels like someone trying to put constraints on me.
There was a doper who posted once about how he was helping women get off a bus and was really offended when theydidn’t want him touching them. And no, he wasn’t helping men get off the bus. Sometimes “help” is self-serving and more about the helper than the helpee.
Woo, someone mentioned cultural marxism, I just got MRA bingo!
For anyone not aware of the hilarious history of the term, please see:
We also got a “Feminazi”!

[/QUOTE]I always wondered where the crazies got that. I kept thinking who reads Gramsci these days?
Shit, I missed something entertaining.
LinusK seems to be on a bit of a hiatus when it comes to mischaracterizing feminism, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he’s not done yet.
That’s it. I’m calling troll.
In his latest thread, he calls a female attorney defending a male accused of rape a gender-traitor. There’s a special place in hell for them apparently.
Doesn’t work the other way though. Males cannot be gender-traitors. Ignorance fought!
Troll. Billy goat gruff, fucking owns-the-bridge, crazy-ass troll.
Oh goodie. The cyber one is back.
Yay.
He’s back and in a tizzy because #BlackLivesMatter doesn’t contain appropriate gender references in the hashtag.
[thread=801490]What’s Wrong with Black Lives Matter[/thread]
How the hell does he even decide what to get irritated about on a given day? Hmm, more men than women are killed by the police, so that group has their name wrong. This must be addressed! Uppity women - they can’t even let men have the spotlight in a civil rights movement! (Or course, that thread didn’t exactly stay on his preferred track.)
I was so disappointed that he had chosen to “grace” us with his bullshit once again. I even said to my (poor, beaten down, feminist-oppressed) husband “OH JOY Linus is back!”
He said “Huh?”
