Please recommend for me some stand up comedy

What!?
No mention yet of Billy Connolly?
For shame!

John Mulaney got mentioned. I think he’s the best stand up I’ve seen recently.

Robert Schimmel gets pretty lewd but is pretty hilarious
David Cross can be great so long as anti-religious stuff doesn’t bug you

I agree. That concert is one of several that I’ll watch any time I get the chance. Others: Gilbert Gottfried has an HBO special (from the early 90s “One Night Stand” series) that I always revisit. Bob Saget’s 2007 Showtime special “That Ain’t Right.” Sarah Silverman’s 2005 “Jesus is Magic.” Anything on film from the late Mitch Hedberg; from Steven Wright; from Demitri Martin.

Louis C. K. never disappoints. I like Maria Bamford, David Cross, Jim Gaffigan, Janeane Garofalo, Kathleen Madigan, Kevin Nealon, Julia Sweeney. As several have said, Jerry Seinfeld’s standup prowess gets overlooked, sometimes.

I guess *‘who is a great standup to go see?’ *might generate some answers unlike those generated by the question ‘what filmed standup would you recommend?’

Bill Cosby.

I just watched this and was reminded on how good he was.

And that’s called having a good time.

Missed the edit window.

I guess I should provide a description.

It’s Bill Cosby talking about people going out drinking and drinking too much.

Vintage Cosby. Damn he looks young as hell.

Norm MacDonald’s Me Doing Standup is my favorite standup special since Chappelle’s first one. Its on netflix.

These guys always made me laugh…

Mitch Hedberg (RIP)
George Carlin (RIP)
Bill Hicks (RIP)

I second these two. And would add Bo Burnham, Dan Cummings and Daniel Tosh.

ETA: Garfunkel & Oates is pretty funny as well. Two female comeidans. Mostly songs.

Doug Stanhope
Bill Burr
Ari Shafir
Joey Diaz
Patrice O’Neal
Greg Fitzsimmons
Dom Irrera

They all have podcasts except Patrice(dead) and Dom(almost dead).

Second Dylan Moran and Dara O’Briain. For my money two of the smartest and funniest comedians working.

Tommy Tiernan

Cosby’s standup is phenomenal. I also like Donald Glover. Two black comics (multiple generations apart) that don’t do the stereotypical “black comic” bit. I like Kevin Hart but I can’t stand Katt Williams. I love Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor too, but for vastly different reasons than Cosby and Glover.

Richard Pryor (obviously a lot of profanity)

How funny. I just discovered his work about two or three days ago after listening to a bunch of Louis CK and it coming up under similar/recommended comedians. I don’t know how I’ve never heard of this guy before! He and Louis CK are now at the top of my stand-up comedy favorites list. The pit bull bit had me in stitches–especially since I have a pit bull myself.

Give Jim Jeffries s look. Very funny and foul mouthed and irreverent.
Find him HBO or YouTube

Hubby and I have seen Lewis Black many times. He has elevated angry to new levels and he is hilarious.
Bill Engvall is funny as hell, surprised no one mentioned him. He is sort of an every man comic, in that almost everyone can relate to a lot of what he talks about.
George Carlin was a legend. He was smart and funny.
Carlos Mencia is hilarious, as long as you don’t mind a lot of cussing.
Ron White makes me cry with laughter. “They call me Tater Salad”

I saw Greg Fitzsimmons live once and almost choked to death laughing.

Gary Gulman is one who hasn’t been mentioned.

Seconding Arj Barker and Brian Regan. I saw Regan once live and it occurred to me that, over the course of nearly two very funny hours, he didn’t swear once. Oh, and Bob Marley! Saw him live, too, now that I think about it.

Jay Mohr. Don’t think I saw him mentioned.

God, I love comedy. I need to listen to some now, too.

I haven’t seen Ed Byrne mentioned. His most famous bit is a riff on Alanis Morrisette’s Ironic but here’s another couple of bits:
