I’ve always worn a watch; but 5 years ago, as an anniversary present, I received a watch. It’s expensive (the model James Bond prefers) and beautiful, the most luxurious thing I’ve ever owned, and I love it.

  1. Your gender (I assume wristwatch wearers are mostly men, but I see women wearing them now and again). Female.
  2. Your approximate age (to the decade, if you don’t mind) To the decade? Rounding up or rounding down? I’m 25.

  9. Do you sleep with it on? No. I don’t wear it around the house. I am allergic to all metals except stainless steel and white gold which I can tolerate for short time spans, this means by around 5pm the band starts to irritate my skin–sometimes sooner. I wear it only when I go out.
  10. Anything else you want to share?
I love my watch because it matches whatever jewelry I feel like wearing, I can dress it up or I can dress it down, and in professional settings it neatly covers my wrist tattoo. I tend to think of it more like a piece of jewelry because I can find the time practically anywhere.

Top - to add to NajaNivea’s point about wearing her watch on the palm side - my mother was a nurse and wore hers underneath as well, she said it made it easier to time pulses and such while holding the patient’s wrist (she also always wore a watch with a sweep hand for that very reason).

Something in the $200-300 range. I have a few saved to a private wishlist on Amazon, but haven’t found “the one” yet.

  10. Anything else you want to share? My current watch (Casio W-760) I got dutyfree in 1986. It did 3 years of being worn fulltime while I was travelling, except for times I needed to use the alarm. Then for 10 years of farming, it got taken off for milkings, calvings, when working with electrical gear, and nightly for the alarm. Now I wear it when leaving the house, and take it off before my shower. This last because the seals are stuffed. The only function that works now is the time and date. All other functions come up with a garbled display, so I guess I’m up for a new watch when this battery goes flat. I want a tough, but not chunky watch, but all Casio seem to do are those bulky “G-Shock” ones.

I didn’t wear a watch for probably ten years, I’m pretty accurate at ‘knowing’ the time, then in the last 2 or 3 years I was convinced to start wearing one again. My band broke the other week, and I was lost. I go through about one watch a year. Expecting a replacement for thi Fossil in a month or so.

My watch almost got me thrown out of the Ryman Auditorium one time. There was a very strict no-cellphone policy and the ushers where jumping all over people who even got their cellphones out. I had pushed the button to activate the Indiglo on my watch so I could check the time and the next thing I knew I had a furious little 70 year old usher shaking her finger in my face and threatening to throw me out. I’m sure she still thinks it was my cellphone.

  10. I love watches, but historically have never been much for the bling, and have a pile of $10 Wal-Mart specials laying around the house. The most expensive one I ever bought for myself was a Seiko Automatic back in the mid-70’s, for all of about $125. With that said, however, I’m currently sporting a Breitling that’s about the size of a manhole cover and that cost more than my first two cars combined, but that was a gift.
