Sure thing, lady!

My small contribution is on the way.
Good luck Poly. I hope you get back on your feet again soon.
Folks, just a reminder to what was said several pages back,
There is another well respected Doper among us that is in true need, and she is someone we all value VERY highly, although she does not want to be named publicly. Please keep her in mind, and Cheri is managing the contributions in that case also. Just mention it to Scotticher in your private emails, and she will fill you in on the details.
As for the the PolyFund, WAY TO GO PEOPLE!! :D.
The contributions will continue into January if I can find more people that are interested in selling odd whatnots that might be laying around your house (eBay?) and contributing the proceeds. It’s what I’m going to be doing, as I have a single-mom budget. Like Cheri said earlier though, every little bit will help.
To the Polys:
Merry Christmas. There’s a church full of UUs sending prayers and vibes and positive thoughts your way.
Except they’re having to do it under your internet handle…
And I lit a candle for you last night, myself.
Everybody -
You’re so cool.
Too cool. When I sort out the credit card after Christmas I’ll drop some via PayPal.
Have a great Christmas Polycarp and wife…
From another Godless heathen who would have missed you if you’d of left us.
This is the most amazing thread I’ve seen in… well, ever. Valkyrie and I are strapped for dosh right now, but damned if we won’t be able to cough something up in January.
Polycarp, we’ve only met once at RT’s house, years ago, and I don’t think we’ve exchanged more than fifty words online, but Val and I are extending our sincerest hopes to you and Skulldigger to get back on your feet and out from under the storm clouds. A very merry Christmas to you, indeed!
–Olentzero, who feels obligated to point out that where some see proof of God, he sees proof that people aren’t inherently selfish and greedy…
I agree-
Except this godless heathen sees God within Polycarp, and within the people in this thread. Like Heinlein’s, Stranger in a Strange Land;
[sup]Thou Art God[/sup]
It was actually meant as a joke. I really have to get some work done on my sense of humor. The love and generosity of the people on this board is hugely heartwarming. The fact is that everyone seems to be connected more like family than like associates who have never actually even seen one another.
“If a person feels he can’t communicate, the least he can do is shut up about it.” ~ Tom Lehrer ~
Same thing.
Check snail-mailed today.
I cant wait to see what the total is today.
He was wasting money on gas and opportunity cost by posting on a message board?
Should have known…
Always one somewhere bdgr.
Given the response on the board, I don’t think you can say that it was wasted.
Looks like a pretty good investment plan, in fact.
“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also”??
We’re in town trying to get things taken care of, and of course had to stop by for a few minutes to post.
I remain totally flabbergasted, awed, and humbled by the amount of love and compassion that have been sent our way.
Update on the car situation:
It looks like our best bet will be to put a used car that we can pay for in full on the road instead of making the payoff to unrepossess the car we had had – the finance company started enumerating what they wanted us to pay before they’d release it, – past payments, an advance payment, the repo man’s fee and storage, an additional fee I didn’t understand the “explanation” of, and I seriously expected him to add on the principal for the retirement pensions of everybody who worked there before he was done. We’re working towards doing that right now.
Our spirits have rebounded from the despair we were in. Meeting Lib and Edlyn IRL for the first time would have been a wonderful experience under any circumstances, but was additionally special right now. The three of you who have phoned know how much of a lift you have been. (Scotti, please call; I want to know about this other need that’s emerged.)
And, again, to say, “you guys rock!” is the sort of understatement otherwise found in “neutronium is a somewhat dense form of matter”
Peace, love, and joy be with you all, even as you have brought them to us.
In the first post of this thread it wasclearly stated that Poly posted from a library computer and if his local library is anything like any other library I’ve ever visited the internet would have been a free service. Besides, even if it wasn’t, as emarpk has already stated, it was evidently an extremely positive investment.
Great to see you’re posting again Poly! I’ll be praying for you to get that job.
Ben.
As a friend of Poly’s from the PP, I’d like to say I’ve been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and generosity shown in this thread.
Not to mention that he could have been going to the library to look up job listings too. In my five months of unemployment this year, I found far more job openings online than I did through the classifieds in the newspaper.
It also pays to do things like get out of the house and do something to keep your mind active while unemployed, to avoid falling into depression from just sitting around and not doing anything productive. While solely posting on a message board probably won’t be so helpful, I’m sure that Polycarp was doing more than SDMB posting at the library or while away from home.
You’re a fine example of a truly good human being, Poly.
