I lived in Michigan for three years. Right there in East Lansing. This gives me the creeps. It’s a good thing Regan and I will never be in the same room, because as a rape victim myself I might, just might, try to bash his face in.
And tell him to lie back and enjoy it while you do.
I dunno. This guy seems like he’s all talk.
Has he tried to overthrow the government? Raped any women? Been part of a lynch mob?
It’s 2022. If somebody wants the title of Most Vile Republican they need to get out there and start committing some serious felonies.
Hey, don’t give anybody any ideas!
So, help me understand one thing. How is father-daughter talk centered on rape even a thing? What kind of person looks at their teen daughters and thinks, “Let’s talk about rape!” Is it because that’s what he thinks about when he looks at them? Hmmm? HMMMM??
This is pretty much the GOP platform now.
I’m still trying to parse his walk back, which somehow tied the whole “I want my daughters to enjoy rape” thing back to the stolen election.
Was he saying ….Joe Biden stole the election, which means he’s currently raping every Trump voter in the country so we should just embrace him and enjoy his presidency because we are too weak to fight back? Somehow, that doesn’t fit with the conservative ethos as I observe it.
If anything, I think he would be saying the opposite, that Republicans should fight back against the senile weakling that kicked their tender snowflake asses and masterminded the crime of the century. But that would mean his daughters shouldn’t do that lie back and enjoy it thing.
So I don’t know what he meant. Maybe he’s trying to tell us his daughters are Democrats.
It’s normal for a father to be concerned that his teenaged daughter might be a victim of rape. (I am a father of a teenaged daughter, and it’s something I don’t ever like to think might happen but intellectually I realize it happens to young women.)
It’s not normal to tell them to enjoy it. Holy shit.
Well, the alternative would be to prioritize the well-being and autonomy of his daughters over the innate fundamental right of (white) men to control women’s sexuality for their own benefit. And naturally we can’t have that.
(You can be absolutely certain that this fucknut is not advising his daughters to submit to and enjoy a rape situation where the rapist isn’t white.)
Doubtful that he ever actually told his daughters to enjoy rape. He’s just using them as a political prop to make a really bad argument, because that’s all they are to him.

Here’s the quote with a bit of context from an NBC story:
Robert Regan, a favorite to win Michigan’s District 74 seat, made the comment at a livestreamed panel Sunday in response to an assertion that it was “too late” to overturn the election results. “That’s kind of like having three daughters. I tell my daughters if rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it,” Regan said. “That’s not how we roll. That’s not how we won this election.”
I’m pretty sure he’s saying that if it were too late to overturn the election results, Republicans should accept the inevitable. But, it’s not too late, so Republicans shouldn’t lie back and enjoy it, they should continue to fight.
And, yes, it’s a seriously muddled analogy, but he’s also speaking extemporaneously, so I’d cut him some slack for that. But, of course, the actual analogy he uses is beyond “ick”, and the underlying premises are beyond idiotic and awful.
Kind of irrelevant at this point whether he actually said those words to his daughters prior to publicly stating that he said them to his daughters.
Either way, he is evidently willing to go on record in public perception as somebody who advocates such a view.
But why would that analogy come to mind off the top of his head – especially when it expresses the opposite of the attitude he’s advocating?
Spoiler: Because he’s a sick fuck.
I can’t tell if that’s worse or not.
I just sent a nasty email to the Michigan Republican Party email address informing them that I have daughters too and I will never vote for any party that endorses this scumbag.
Sincere question: Are you currently a Republican? Because you know he’s not alone in this type of unpleasantness, right?
I’m not. I’m sort of hoping they think so though. I doubt they care what Democrats think but they might hesitate if enough likely Republicans push back.
But if they manage to follow his advice and enjoy it, is it still “legitimate rape”? And if not, might they get pregnant?
Back in college, I registered as a Republican due to them being the ones who asked me first. I’ve never changed that, but I’m also not sure if it carries over. But I always refer to myself as a registered Republican when I try to convince them of anything. I can’t bring myself to go further than that, e.g. start saying stuff like “It’s bad enough them SJWs are taking over, but then you let this guy run and prove them right?”
Now I’m imagining a Thunderdome situation with the Parties fighting for voters. Mel would be the Republican. So I guess the Dems are the giant man-babies?
