Project Runway All-Stars Season 3

I am happy to see Victor and his fan leave. It was something of a toss-up between his and Christopher’s and I’m glad Christopher gets another chance.

Korto’s dress last week was the only one of the lot that could be easily reproduced and fabricated at a price point that would work for QVC’s buyers. The rest of the gowns all had complicated hand techniques and expensive fabrics. I liked all the gowns except Victor’s, with it’s weird wind vanes. I think that taupe and tangerine combo was lovely.

This week, I think Christopher’s was the weakest, although I like the seaweed! Not sorry to see Victor fan himself off, however. I think Korto was a clear winner, with that chic pantsuit.

It’s always to see Nina back (but what was with her inability to open her eyes when she was presenting the challenge?)

And I always like “dress a civilian” challenges also, though these were, other than the short one, not exactly presenting any particular body challenges.

Glad to see Victor go, and I hope Karl Lagerfeld gets his fan back and issues a restraining order forbidding Victor from ever picking it up again.

And glad Christopher was safe, but it would have been a legit auf had he gone home – there was no coherent “trend,” per the guidelines, and not using the color in the actual garment was damned close to cheating.

I loved Kortos outfit but it reminded me of the other designer from another season that kept making flower dresses the way he folded the material… petals petals petals…

The best part of this week was after the exchange between Nina and Christopher on the runway.
“It looks like seaweed.”
“Thank you.”
“That wasn’t a compliment.”
“I didn’t take it as one.”
Awkward silence.

And then the judges were talking together and Isaac said he liked that Christopher stood up for his design, and Nina had a “Drop dead, Isaac” look on her face.

I just assume that the snark between Christopher and Nina was edited to death, as in each one uttered those statements at various times but not in that order.

Korto’s top reminded me more of Leanne’s work, not that guy, Vince? Verne? something like that.

She was smart to make something that would appeal to Nina, but I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more colorful. I think she also benefited, as Real Woman Challenges always do, from having a tall, slender model.

I agree – it was nice but I feel like I’ve seen it before.

Sorry to see Christopher go – he’s a talented young man – but he’s clearly the weakest of the final four.

That said, at least he responded to the challenge – as someone said in a confessional, where was the “tribal” in Elena’s dress?

I thought Elena’s was boring compared to the others. And the “colors”? White and a really light yellow? Really?

So of course that meant that the judges loved it.

I was not overly impressed with any of the designs. Korto’s looked something in a Dress Barn. Christopher was okay but he’s so full of himself I want to smack him. Seth Aaron was okay.

So far my favorite challenge was the Marge Simpson one. That totally worked and I agreed with the design that got the win.

I agree, he always has such a sense of entitlement. I think he was really shocked that he was sent packing last night. It was so worth it to see that, even if it means I have to hear Korto’s horrible nasal voice for another week.

Same here.

When her model came out I told my wife, “Neon tribal.”

I loved Seth Aaron’s look, and that is the first time this season that I can say that. On the one hand he should have been eliminated weeks ago, on the other hand, he clearly had the best look tonight.

I also loved Seth Aaron’s and I’m not a big fan of his style from what I’ve seen of it (I missed his season). I didn’t understand why two of the judges didn’t like the neon pink ruffle. I think taking it off would have made the outfit too bland.

Re: mass production, didn’t he seam the black and white bodice stripes together? Seems like that would be rather expensive. Actually, the whole thing was pieced together. Korto’s dress was a cinch to sew by comparison.

Elena’s space girl outfit, definitely not tribal! I love her stuff but she’s done this before.

Christopher. It’s funny how the judges keep saying they don’t know his aesthetic. For a minute I thought all four were going to… the UN. I didn’t care for him as a designer and I won’t miss those imploring puppy-dog eyes.

I don’t like Seth Aaron’s stuff but I guess he did do the best for a cohesive collection on the runway. Ho hum.

I thought Seth Aaron’s look was not at all cohesive and not really attractive. He’s been a mess for 90% of the season! I thought Korto should have won for sure. Boo… she was robbed (again!)

I was really impressed by their final collections. 6 looks in 4 days and I thought it compared very favorably to the collections of the regular finale shows when they get a month or more. Elena had some finishing issues but overall, the collections looked interesting and cohesive.

All season long, I thought it would be between Elena and Korto. In the end, I think some of Korto’s designs ended up looking a bit fussy. Her first and last looks were so great though and the dress made from the scarf. Her palette of white and yellow, a combo that I like a lot, didn’t read very strongly to me on the runway and I think that hurt her chances.

Seth Aaron, who didn’t do much during the season, presented a very dramatic collection with strong colors and a lot of texture so it read the best on the runway.

It’s the same old conundrum, are the judges looking for runway drama or commercial appeal? SA vs Korto.

Another thing, the finale show was pretty much drama-free. No shrieking melt-downs, no bitter accusations of stealing/cheating, no tearful confessionals. I liked that.

Although I thought that Korto should have won because she had, in my opinion, the superior collection, I did agree with Elena going out first. I didn’t care for her designs at all.

And the two dresses Seth Aaron made based on the scarf made me think of 80’s comic books.

As the judges said, it came down to sellability vs. runway impact, and they went with runway impact. (Note the name of the show.) Although I like Korto’s stuff better overall, and although she had a better season, I thought Seth Aaron’s final collection was cohesive and striking. I’m not a huge fan of the yellow-and-white combo, and, as toast pekora points out, it completely washed out on the runway.

Overall season: A big fat “meh.”

When I saw Korto’s collection, I thought they were nice clothes, then immediately realized she was doomed as “clothes” is an insult in the Project Runway world.
