I watched at work, a vet clinic, our reaction - “what the hell is she feeding that dog for it to have yellow poop?”
One other comment.
Is it just me or was it disrespectful for Micahel Kors to be wearing sunglasses to this event. I suppose the lights may make it hard on the eyes, but wouldn’t sunglasses ruin the color effect of the dresses, especially for Korto and Kendly?
Ugh, and then to pick up the dog poop while wearing the gown? Yeah…awesome.
I, too, disagree with Leeann winning.
I found her stuff to be just ugly and unbecoming. I honestly can’t see anyone wearing that stuff - all those flappy things would catch on any corners, and just look stupid. That one Finale blouse had the flappy thing covering part of her chest. If I encountered that in real life, it would take a huge effort of will NOT to smooth it over to the left, so the lapels lay even. The whole wave thing was just… flappy for flappy sakes.
I loved Kortos stuff. It was flattering to the figure, made well, and it LOOKED like stuff you could wear out into the world. That one green dress was waaaay too short, but the rest was just quite lovely and would look good on a range of sizes.
And Kenley? Whatever. Wear that to a party, and get ONE dribble of water down it, and your $15,000 dress is wrecked forever. I went “oooh” at a few things, but found her stuff to be just boring. I have no idea what the “other designers” that her stuff might be copied from looked like, but it wouldn’t have stopped me from thinking that Kenley’s line is just… boring.
I’m curious why there is no reunion show this time.
I would have been fine with any of them winning. Both Korto and Kenley had hit or miss collections with a bunch of really standout dresses mixed with interesting but not wonderful pieces. I thought Kenley’s had a little bit more better dresses and less dresses that i didn’t really like. Korto has better colors though, and although I wouldn’t have known, is better at fitting according to the judges. LeeAnn on the other hand had a much more thematic (waves! blue and white!) and cohesive collection, as well as showing off more varieties of clothing (dress, pants, shorts, etc). I wasn’t thrilled with the theme or colors she happened to pick, but given that, she put on the best show.
I would have wanted her to get fan favorite too, but when did that happen? Typically it’s during the reunion show before the finale. But I didn’t see a reunion show this year. When did that happen?
I’m curious about that, too, as I didn’t see anything on the show about her winning the fan fave…
They gave out the Fan Favorite during one of the commercial breaks.
Damn them! A big F-U for those of us either TiVoing or channel surfing, eh?
ETA: I also really liked the look of horror on Kenley’s face when she realized Tim would be guest judging. I was glad, too. J-Lo? Yeah…no, she can’t hold a candle to our Tim.
I think you’re missing the point of her designs.
Why is it assumed that if someone doesn’t like something they are missing the point or don’t understand it?
Well, as stated, her inspiration was the sea and the ocean. She kept her color palate in relation to that, and the swooshy stuff in relation to the waves. I believe that was the point.
However, the stuff, IMHO, was just ugly. A big bunch of curved pieces, fitted closely together, does not make a beautiful design. If any of those models had any hips, you’d basically be wearing a design that said “Hey, make my ass ten times larger!”.
The pieces fit together like a tall CD case rack - here’s a slot, here’s a slot, here’s a slot, etc. The vest-like piece served only to cover the boobs, and hide the user in the frills.
That ungodly torso-circling top-thingie that got streched by the steam was also awful. It surrounded the model, making her head stick out like a floating barbie doll head tossed into a toilet. The model couldn’t walk it it without it sliding down her arms!
Please let me know if my interpretation is wrong, in your opinion. I’d love to hear how someone likes the stuff, and could wear it.
That is not what I was saying. What I am saying is that I think dismissing Leanne’s dresses because they are impractical is missing the point of creating artistic clothes for a show at Bryant Park.
Good point–shows at Bryant Park aren’t really about designing for the average woman, and more about putting on a show.
Well, you do have to distinguish between a couture line and pret a porter. Wearability for the average woman, or practicality of the outfit, is irrelevant to this collection. It’s couture, so it’s supposed to be weird. Thus, the idea of catching her noodles on corners is not really an issue IMO when judging the merits of this collection. It’s like saying about Chris and Christian’s high collared avant garde dress, “But wouldn’t that have trouble going through doors?” It’s meant to be seen as art, not something you’d wear out to a party. When looked at that way, the collection is interesting and innovative, which is what I did like about it. Leanne has a line of ready to wear clothes that are more practical and every day, which translates all that wild architecture into more basic clothing. You might not like those either, but they are more accessible and wearable.
It’s fine to like or dislike whatever, but judge it on the basis upon which it’s meant to be judged (and on which the PRW judges evaluated it, if you want their decision to make some sort of sense).
Oh believe me, I understand the difference and had for years before Project Runway hit the airwaves. Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, and I took away more than impracticality from the previous poster’s opinion. I think when you can make a runway model look paunchy, your work is hardly a work of art. Still, just my opinion.
As far as it being innovative, Zac Posen has done both couture and pret a porter lines using waves. It has been done before. It’s hard to have anything be truly unique in almost any form of art. I enjoyed far more of Leanne’s designs during the course of the show than I did the line she showed in the finale.
I think it’s also about creating something conceptual. Leanne was working with a high concept, but that sort of thing is usually translated into something less extreme for ready-to-wear (I’d imagine pieces closer to, say, her bridesmaid’s look).
ETA: Uh…what Rubystreak said!
That came out snotty Not my intention, sorry!
I thought I was rooting for Leanne, but after seeing the whole runway show I was definitely pulling for Korto. Her clothes didn’t seem as repetitive and incestuous as Leanne’s.
I wasn’t trying to educate you per se, just to say that yes, there are people who might dislike Leanne’s collection because they didn’t understand it. If you are worried about someone catching one of her noodles on a corner when it’s worn, you didn’t understand it because of the couture v. pret a porter issue. That was all I was trying to say.
Do you have a link to the Posen? I’d like to see if Leanne was being as derivative as Kenley. I do think Leanne’s work is unique, myself. Of the three collections, it was the most original.
