I liked both Leann’s and Korto’s collections, although Leann’s edged out the win in my mind. I really liked the cohesiveness of the collection. Kenley’s was just weird and overdone.
For that matter does anyone have a link to the dresses Kenley supposedly was too similar to? I have trouble believing the same couldn’t be said about all the contestants - there’s only so much that can be done with dresses, surely every dress that it made could be said to resemble some dress someone else has done. Or are these very recent and famous dresses and that’s the issue?
Balenciaga and Balenciaga on Jennifer Connelly Known for the floral prints, puffy sleeves, fitted with a bubble skirt.
Alexander McQueen feather dress He did several feather dresses but this is the one that looks most like Kenley’s IMO
ETA: Yes, these are recent dresses, in the last year.
I am definitely not saying that they are exact. His waves are more flowing and free while her’s are (in my opinion) more like air filters.
From his Spring collection of this year, his blue gown is almost the exact hue of her blue gown. Certainly his waves are more horizontal while she takes the more layered and free flowing look.
I did like the look of her short iridescent dress. It was the one I liked the best although I only like the bottom where the “waves” are softer. He also had a short iridescent dress this spring with soft waves.
This dress of his from his Spring Collection is interesting, I think. The big waves on the top and bottom really frame those tighter ripples in the middle which seem to be a smaller scale of what Leanne favors. In that same picture you see another similar style and color which all ties in.
There are a few others but they’re similar to his other “big waves” as opposed to the tighter ones she uses. Not the same, but similar.
Huh?
They made very clear to Kenley that some of her work was derivative, and that they didn’t buy her claim to be oblivious to the work of other fashion designers. Also some of the terms they used to describe her collection—charm, spirit—suggested to me, even before they got to the other designers, that they weren’t as impressed with her.
For Korto, Heidi said that some of the piece looked “overworked,” with “too many ideas in one garment,” and Nina told her she needs to be careful not to go “overboard with the decoration.”
In fact, to the extent that they had any critique at all of LeAnn’s work, it was simply a concern that she would become “the queen of the petals.” They made no criticism of the designs at all, but simply worried that she might, as Nina said, be too much of a “one note” designer. And, as others have already pointed out in this thread, LeAnn had shown earlier in the competition, in multiple challenges, that she can do much more than petals.
I thought Nina also made a good point when she noted that LeAnn’s collection had included a much greater variety of clothing types—“shorts, skirts, pants, jacket, and a long dress”—than the other designers. This was something that i hadn’t really noticed myself, but that further convinced me that she should be the winner.
I wouldn’t have been at all upset if Korto had won, and in fact some of the judges’ final discussion led me to think that they might go that way. I’m just glad that Kenley didn’t win. That bit early in the show, when she was doing her nasal whine about not agreeing with Tim Gunn, just encapsulated her perfectly for me.
Did anyone else think that the model in that wasn’t a model at all (at first)…but a convincing mannequin?
I’m fine with Leanne’s win, but I liked Kenley’s collection a lot more.
That said, Kenley was a fool to not have made sure that she could defend each and every piece in her collection against the charge of being derivative. She knew very well that the judges had a big problem with that and she has nobody but herself to blame for being auf’ed for that reason.
I thought Korto’s collection was absolutely hideous, but then I didn’t like the clothes she made over the course of the show, nor, frankly, did I like her. Good riddance.
I will say that Leanne reacted to the dog incident with aplomb I do not possess. Had I been in her place I would have spent the next day explaining to Nina Garcia why I decided to line the inside of a skirt with a dog pelt.
