Was that the same set (the house exterior) that they used for the UFO episode a couple seasons ago?
I forgot to watch, but there was supposed to be another ending aired the next day.
Someone should tell Gus anything that’s been in the chocolate room that long is gonna be pretty stale by now.
4/10/13
understatement.
I know! That’s pretty huge. It was such a fun episode until that moment and then it got serious fast. But I’m actually glad they finally went there, because Juliet is pretty smart and should have figured it out long ago.
On a lighter note: I have a thing for Chief Vick, and damn she looked good tonight.
What a great episode! Everyone was on top form, and then that ending was so unexpected!
Wow.
PS. Stumpy was doing a great Dave Thomas impression.
Very much so. I wasn’t expecting that at all.
Why was the wedding dress red?
And I was a little disappointed at the  moment. I assumed at some point, either before THEY got married, or the show ended, whichever came first, Shawn would confess to Jules, and she’d be all “Duh, we all figured that out years ago, but you get good results, so we just went with it”.
It did sort of bother me that between Juliet, Lassie, O’Hara, the rest of the detectives and all the other people they come across on a weekly basis…no one has ever said “Hey, you just saw that and then pretended not to see it.” Actually, I think one or two people have said that, but Shawn managed to quiet them down before anyone heard them.
Of course, then we wouldn’t have a show. Either way, the show is certainly good enough to warrant that much suspension of disbelief. Though, IMO, it’s gone slightly downhill since Juliet and Shawn got together.
Of course, if they had known he was a fraud and pretended not to know, they’d be wise to just run with it since Shawn’s ‘power’ is clearly enough to give them reasonable suspicion. I’m pretty sure they’ve managed to get a number of warrants just based on his visions. OTOH, there’s no reason why he couldn’t just become a detective himself (I believe he aced the practical test and I’m sure he’d do fine on the physical test, it’s the classes that would be hard for him).
OTOOH Shawn (and to a lesser extent, Gus) is the only one willing to commit crimes to solve other crimes. He’s never had a problem breaking into houses to find evidence that he can later turn over to the police. If done properly, it might be clean evidence when the cops get it, especially if his powers are used to divine the evidence or something that it leads to. For example, breaking into a possible suspects house and finding a receipt for plane tickets and then telling Juliet he thinks the suspect might be at the airport. If he was a real detective, even his ‘powers’ couldn’t have picked that one up.
Lassiter has already told Shawn that he knows he’s not psychic but that he doesn’t know exactly how he does it. This could soften things between Shawn and Jules. I think he’d be the first person she’d go to about it and he’d say, “well of course he isn’t psychic. Psychics don’t exist. I thought you knew that by now.”
I think Lassiter and Shawn had that conversation way back in the first season. Lassie’s never been convinced. I’m not sure if this is true in show, but Chief Vic seems to play it as if she also knows better, but since Shawn gets results and he would never make a good detective, she lets him play psychic. It seems like Jules should be much more skeptical than she is, but I can’t remember her ever really questioning whether or not Shawn was psychic. I’ve never been too fond of the “Is he psychic or not” scares - hopefully they’ll use this plotline to end all that.
There was an episode where Shawn beat a lie detector when Lassie asked him directly if he was psychic, and since then Lassie has reluctantly accepted him as genuine.
I finally watched this episode - my schedule usually has me catching Psych on the weekend - and add me to the group surprised that Jules didn’t already assume he was a fake. After I saw the ending, I went online to make sure this wasn’t a season finale cliffhanger. Thankfully, it isn’t.
I did the exact same thing (checked to see if it was a season finale).
As for Juliet, she never questioned his powers. There’s been many times where she’s even asked him to use his powers or if he’s had any visions. O’Hara could probably go either way with it and Lassie (even though he beat the test) more or less knows he’s a fake. It’s right in the theme song “I know, you know I’m not telling the truth. I know, you know they just don’t have any proof”. IOW, I know you know I’m fake, but you can’t prove it. However, they discarded the ‘I think you’re fake’ storyline years ago and whether or not Lassie/Juliet/O’Hara believes him is irrelevant, they trust him since his information is almost always correct and just in the nick of time. They just don’t ask too many questions about how he gets it.
Juliet O’Hara is one character. Are you meaning Chief Vick?
I think you mean Chief Vick, not O’Hara (that’s Juliet’s surname).
Here’s something I read on a blog someplace: Jules’s Dad and step-Dad are both con men and liars. Now it seems Shawn is one too. If he lied to her about that, what else can’t she trust about him? And more importantly, she feels stupid for being fooled; A lot of people really get upset about that kind of thing.
Fair enough that she’s upset, really.
Yes, I did.
Yup, I was thinking it was Chief O’Hara.
Her brother too.
From Batman! A suitably obscure pop culture reference for Psych, I think.
Declan Rand also lied to her about being a profiler, but eventually confessed to being a fake and they dated for a while. She might have accepted Shawn’s act if he had confessed years soon.
