I legit regret going to bed early last night. Looks like I missed quite the show.
Welcome to our first Muslim Senator, who hails from the great state of Michigan! And to make things even better, we now have full control of the Michigan house and Senate as well at the governorship.
The attack ads against El-Sayed were disgustingly bigoted, and I’m glad Michiganders saw right through it.
Also, he went to all that trouble to move his operations to Texas, which turned blue on him. Don’t fret, Elon, you still have somewhere to go – Mars is still red…
Historically, there is the reality that back in the 90s the Republican party in California decided to FAFO with the immigrants with proposition 187 and yes, I did see that rodeo before, even Hispanics and other immigrants did favor some points of the antiimmigrant proposal. So it passed back then and Republicans did succeed at the ballot box…
For a decade or so.
Immigrants and many others found out that the solutions turned draconian very quickly, and the court challenges ended neutering the law and tainted the Republican party in California until this day.
I’m afraid (not really ) that the same has taken place in Arizona and now Texas, it will take awhile to repair the taint.
We have the opportunity to push back against the worst abuses of this administration, but I fear that those abuses are not what caused the blue wave, and a repeat of them would be happily accepted if enough voters were financially comfortable.
Trump is bragging about the power of his veto, but it doesn’t seem to have dawned on him that he has a stable of senators that not only don’t need him, they wish to god they are not associated with him.
Texas is making every single GOP congressman reevaluate their own neck risk.
I’ve always been a very “make nice” kind of person, but I feel like the last two years have tried my patience. On the one hand, yes you do need to work together to get things done in politics. That’s an important political skill.
On the other hand, I’m not as bothered by El-Sayed’s bragging and combativeness as I was with other candidates in the past, because at some point, enough is enough. We can’t just keep rolling over. We tried to make nice and it didn’t work.
Yeah, they were literally calling him a terrorist-loving puppy murderer toward the end there. Can’t blame him for a little gloating and mocking Repubs in his victory speech.
Michigan’s Great Black Hope, John James, loses yet another statewide election. Who’s he going to lose to next time and for what office?
Haley Stevens sold her soul for a product that was not delivered. No refunds. No more elections for her. YES!
Mike Rogers can slither back to Florida until he decides to be a Michigander again for another run.
Tommy “One Term” Barrett can go fuck right off now.
So Donald T***p held has breath until America turned blue. I’m shocked, shocked I tell ya, that his last minute closing argument about pool maintenance didn’t win every contest for Republicans. I mean, every family sits down and the dinner table every night and discuss how their top concerns are the reflecting pool, the Arc de Dunce, and the ballroom.
I agree, I think. Hold the fuckers responsible to the extent practical, enact legislation that creates real guardrails against future would-be autocrats, and most of all, push kitchen table legislation.
Work with Republicans? Sure, to the extent they help us with our agenda. Period. They don’t like that? Tough shit.
Fun fact: If Colom wins, as seems likely, he won’t be the first Black Senator from Mississippi – but he’ll be the first one who wasn’t born into slavery.
If the Rs had run a boring regular candidate for governor ( OH) they would’ve won.
I wish they had. But Ramaswami is such a dipshit even the Rs couldnt bring themselves to do it.
In Senate news, some dip on X called Brown a communist. I then disagreed and they immediately posted, “Did I ask for your opinion?”
Lord.
