Except the Chargers play the Oakland Raiders this Sunday 1pm pst in San Diego almost a sure thing and then they play KC for the second time (having beat them the first time in KC) in San Diego on Sunday December 29th 1pm pst
Two wins will leave them 9-7, but in order to go to the playoffs a week later they still have to win the tie breakers with Baltimore and Miami.
Miami beat the Chargers and they still have to lose two more to allow the Chargers to go to the playoffs while Baltimore only has to lose one more (almost guaranteed).
There’s no way for the Chargers to win any possible remaining tiebreaker. They lost head-to-head against the Dolphins and the Bengals, and the Ravens have a better conference record. So SD requires that both Miami and Baltimore lose out.
Pretty much everything broke for the Chargers today. Even KC lost, so they now have nothing to play for next week at San Diego. So now the Chargers need:
SD over KC
Cin over Balt
Jets over Mia
Still a long shot, but not nearly as long as it was yesterday.
Just a matter of time till that happens, like next Sunday for example

Miracles still do happen … Cincinnati will beat Baltimore (8-7) and the New York Jets will beat Miami (8-7) and the San Diego Chargers (8-7) will beat KC (at home in San Diego by the way).
“This is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it”
that’s a song they sing in my church … this is the last week-end of regular season NFL football with everything on the line for Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengal’s, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and even the Pittsburgh Steelers still have a slight chance to go to the playoffs next week-end.
I’ve got my Chargers pj’s on (which I will remove and put on my Chargers lucky clothes on later)
I’ve got the guacamole and chips. I’ve got the nacho’s ready to go.
I’ve got faith this is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice in it.
I’ve said my three (3) hail Mary’s even though I am not a Catholic Phillip Rivers is, along with the owner of the San Diego Chargers and his son. I figure it can’t hurt.
San Diego Chargers 33
Kansas City 31
Now if only divine interference can get Baltimore and Miami to lose their last game the Chargers can go all the way to the playoffs.
Beating the Chiefs is the easy part… Both Bowe and Hali are OUT and I would be shocked if Charles gets more than a series or two. That said Knile Davis is both stronger and faster than Charles (believe that I live in KC and have been to several practices). Problem is he fumbles like the ball is coated in baby oil.
Alex MIGHT play a half so Chase Daniel will play a lot I suspect.
Chargers roll 27-13
I think the Bengals beat the Ravens as they have something to play for but the REAL problem will be the Dolphins who play at home against the Jets who are out, on the road, suck and have Gino Smith at the helm
Cincinnati 24-16
Dolphins 20-17 and sadly the Bolts are out.
As a Redskins fan, there’s nothing I’d like better right now than to see the Chargers win the Super Bowl, for reasons which are the opposite of noble. I’d really just like to see an interview with Norv Turner the day after the Bolts won the big game.
I imagine that you can relate, after being teased for years by Norv (“Listen, what we do works”) Turner, and his truly impressive ability to fall short year after year after year, no matter how much talent he has to work with.
No, Norv, what you do doesn’t work, not when you’re the head coach, anyhow. Your clever gameplanning has never been enough to overcome your teams’ lack of heart and discipline, and if you’d finally just admit to it, I’d be satisfied. Therefore, the fact that I’m still bitter over it is your fault, too.
You have to know Norm to understand what your saying … I agree he was a road block to the Charges success, but he is old school pass it and hope it gets completed.
The new head coach of the Chargers McCoy has limited Rivers throwing arm and he is now QB Rivers is considered to be one of the best in the NFL backed up by good running and catching the football.
They beat KC on the road and Denver on the road and Indianapolis on the road … todays game is in San Diego.
The game between NY Jets and the Miami Dolphins is being played in New York and while watching NFL Today this morning everyone is picking Miami to win and Baltimore to lose.
Whatever happens remember Rex Ryan’s famous words last season “that if he had the same talent that Norm Turner had at San Diego he would’ve won four super bowls by now”.
Now we need you Rex and the NY Jets to do what Buffalo did to Miami last Sunday … skunk the Dolphins
It would serve the Chargers right to lose against the KC second string.
As a Steeler fan, I doubt very seriously that SD will lose today, but stranger things have happened.
I wrote the Steelers off when they went 2-6, so the fact that they are still technically in it is stunning.
I understand what the chiefs are doing, but I think it is a bad move. Andy Reid is a terrible post season coach, and to give a team with no playoff history a rest before their first round game doesn’t make much sense to me. They need some continuity and momentum to make a run. They started 9-0, and could possibly finish the season losing 5 out of 7 if they lose today, which is not good.
Chief fans prepare yourselves for an early out in the playoffs, another Andy Reid specialty. But the good news is, all of his players will be healthy enough to play golf as soon as the season ends.
Why would it serve the Chargers right? What did they do wrong? I think that most teams would do the same thing as KC in that situation and the talking heads on CBS agree.
They didn’t do anything wrong. I agree with that. Perhaps my “serves them right” wasn’t fair to the Chargers. I just hate it when a playoff slot is on the line, and one team holds their best players out of the game. But that’s not San Diego’s fault.
They can’t control who the Chiefs put on the field.
How’s this? Regardless of what happens, it will serve the Chiefs right if they lose their first round playoff game next week.
