Muskrat Love?! Eeuow! Although I must admit I do listen to it when I find it (just to assure myself of how much I really hate it).
That was originally by John Waite.
Let me increase my shame:
“You Are” - Lionel Richie (great synth bass, if nothing else)
“Waiting For a Star To Fall” - Boy Meets Girl (the married lyricists who wrote songs for Whitney Houston)
“You Got It All” - The Jets (written by Rupert Holmes, who gave us "The Pina Colada Song (gag!) AND “Timothy” - the greatest song ever written about canabalism)
Back for Good by Take That.
Shape of My Heart – Backstreet Boys.
It’s my dirty little secret.
It was John Waite.
I guess “All the Small Things” by Blink 182 doesn’t count as a sappy love song, huh? Love the song though.
“More than words” by Extreme, although if someone threatened my life I’d never admit it face-to-face.
I confess, I’m sappy. There would just too many of them to list them all.
I like “Heaven”, but the DJ Sammy cover of it, not Bryan Adams.
Another for “Maybe I’m Amazed.” And “True” by Spandau Ballet. I’m a sucker for 80s music.
Miracles - Jefferson Starship.
I’m more ashamed of liking that one because of the lyrics, not because it’s a love song.
Never My Love - The Association.
Just about as sappy as you can get, really. But for some reason it
I have always found it compelling. I must listen to it if I run across it on the radio.
- Tamerlane
Don’t be so hard on yourself. I think “Miracles” is one of the rock era’s best balllads. Georgeous song.
…
Well folks, it lookas as though we’ve hardly scratched the surface. More faves of mine yet to be mentioned:
“Fool, If You Think It’s Over” by Chris Rea
“Just Remember I Love You” by Firefall
“I Love You” by April Wine
“Let Me Love You Tonight” by Pure Prairie League (w/Vince Gill on vocals)
“Love Will Find a Way” by Pablo Cruise
“The Things We Do For Love” by 10cc
“I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” by England Dan & John Ford Coley
“Biggest Part of Me” by Ambrosia
And how could we forget …
“Every Woman in the World”,
“Lost in Love”,
“Even the Nights Are Better”,
“Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, etc.
Where’s the love for Air Supply? And we call this a “sappy love song” thread. Hmph!
“Nights are Forever Without You”
Do you really hate to admit you like this stuff, though? I could easily defend most of this stuff in public.
Speaking only for myself, this is the first time since high school I have admitted to liking Total Eclipse of the Heart and will probably be the last.
But a lot of this other stuff I could also defend in public. Maybe I’m Amazed rocks.
Honestly … not at all. I fell exactly as I do.
Maybe we’re flouting the spirit of the OP, then.
… as I do = … as you do
Actually, it was when I read your list that I realized no one could be ashamed of some of this good, good stuff!
Yup … and there is definitely a difference between good “sappy love songs” and lousy ones. Just because it’s “sappy” doesn’t mean it’s good or that I’ll like it.
I know all this is a matter of taste, but does that make sense?
