Her job - her one and only job that was vital to the country - was to have daily press conferences to give the press vitally important information about the administration and its dealings.
She stopped doing that job because it became inconvenient to have to answer all the questions about a president who lies every time he opens his mouth.
She cannot be defended for a second. Nobody in the history of the modern press secretary has ever refused to do the job of talking to the press. She will forever be the remembered as the most flagrantly contemptuous administration official in the history of the country. True, she is but a reflection of her boss. But she agreed to the assignment, knowing who and what he was, and worked extremely hard to live up to his level of contempt for the public for a very long time.
There are many people on the right who no doubt are salivating at the prospect of trying to top her level of contempt for the free press. Easy to think from their bubble bunkers. It will be fun to see real reporters reduce them to the nothingness they are when the time comes.
She made the choice to routinely lie in defense of incompetence, corruption, bigotry, and worse.

I have sympathy for her. I have worked for very bad bosses too. When you beat a dog enough the dog just gets silly.
She knew what she was getting into. And she welcomed the opportunity.
Or, instead of creating a narrative where poor Sarah Sanders was “beaten” into her role, we can just accept that she’s a woman of exceptionally low moral and ethical standards who willingly took and stayed in her job.
You may have something there. Maybe Trump won’t even bother to hire another press secretary.
But I’m confident there are sufficient numbers of people on the right who would give a right arm for the chance to stuck their heads up Trump’s butt that he will find a lackey even more craven and obsequious than Sanders who will treat the “fake news” as Trumps sees fit.
I heard about 90 seconds of this story on NPR today and I coulda swore the guy they were interviewing said he didn’t think they would replace Sanders. Trump will just do his own talking.
I guess that’s not the official word (otherwise I assume you guys would have brought it up by now) but the conjecture of someone in-the-know enough to be interviewed about it on NPR.
I wasn’t expecting her to leave without any advanced rumors. I wonder if some of the recent subpoenas spooked her.

I live in fear KellyAnne Conroy will whine and stomp and hold her breath until she turns blue just to get the job.

I can believe it. Sanders wasn’t really doing a job anyway (she almost never did the one thing she was supposed to be doing) and Trump has no interest in interacting with the media. And leaving it unfilled avoids the whole circus of no one really wanting the job, which has been the case with his many unfilled positions. At least it’s not as though the position requires Senate confirmation.
