SDMB Fantasy Football DYNASTY League: Year 11

I was out at a party on Sunday and didn’t see that Njoku was a surprise inactive (he never had an injury designation during the week). I would have started Mecole Hardman and his 2.22 points instead (not Noah Fant, who scored 6). I defer to the league and Justin on whether I should have been able to make a retroactive change. The two points might make the difference as he is projected to end up about 8 points shy.

It’s weird how these minor roster issues have happened three times this season and all three times the opponent is/was Justin.

They made the announcement shortly after 1 (so you couldn’t have switched in somebody even if you had seen it), so I suppose it’s only fair to allow the swap.

But dammit, I picked up Breshad Perriman in case Julian Edelman got moved from questionable to out. He played, but he also only put up less than two points to Perriman’s 30something. I wish I had made that swap now.

I don’t see how you can justify retroactively making a swap for someone who had already played when the announcement came down. It’s one thing if you had someone else to play and just missed it. Even if you had seen it, you had no other options anyway.

Jules is right. The retroactive substitution thing we do sometimes is a substitute for making an obvious decision when we’re unable to for some reason - like if someone is travelling and can’t set their roster and there’s a surprise inactive and they have another player on their roster who would’ve been the clear decision to play if the person could’ve made the decision themselves. But to substitute a player from an earlier game isn’t a decision a person can make - they wouldn’t have had the option to start the player who previously started when making the decision. Now, if RNATB had another tight end on his roster who was playing at the same time or later, and was clearly the best option he had (so there’s no ambiguity in who he would’ve started anyway), that would be within the norms and requirements of the retroactive substitutions we’ve been doing occasionally.

That said, I don’t understand what RNATB was requesting. He started Noah Fant, who started later than Njoku, in his TE slot. And Mecole Hardman in his WR slot. He said: “I would have started Mecole Hardman and his 2.22 points instead (not Noah Fant, who scored 6).”

Since we’re talking about a TE slot, not a WR/TE slot, I don’t see what he’s trying to say. He couldn’t have started Hardman in the slot that Fant used, and even if he could have, he would’ve lost 4 points, not gained it. It seems to me that he was going to start Njoku, and Njoku was injured, and luckily he had Fant in a later game, so he substituted in Fant. I’m missing something because I don’t see what the substitution would’ve been or what he’s asking. Help me out.

Woops, I was looking at the wrong times. Fant actually started at 1pm game, whereas Njoku started a 4pm game. Since RNATB was able to successfully start Fant over Njoku (that’s who is in the starting TE slot), I don’t understand the problem, or what Hardman has to do with it.

I think you guys are looking at the wrong week or something. I started Tyler Higbee as my TE and Njoku as my WR/TE. I would have started Mecole Hardman as my WR/TE if Njoku’s inactivation had been announced (Hardman plays for the Chiefs, who also had a late game). I only mentioned Fant to say I wasn’t asking for him to be retroactively subbed in. I am starting Fant this week but he was on my bench last week. Didn’t matter in the end, although the difference did turn out to be less than two points.

Now I get to be comprehensively thrashed by Hamlet. I literally have no plausible options to replace Chris Godwin at WR, so I’ll be rolling out scrubs.

Oh, I think when I looked at your roster it was showing me your current lineup for your next week when I thought I was looking at your lineup for the last week, hence the confusion. I understand now.

In this case, though, Njoku was a surprise inactive at game time, which was a 4pm eastern game. Hardman had played in a 1pm game, so even if you were at your computer and saw that Njoku was inactive, you wouldn’t have been able to make that change. I think it probably only makes sense to make obvious changes that the team owner could’ve made themselves if they weren’t unavailable.

In any case, you won, so I assume you’re happy and this is a moot point. But for future reference, when we do the retroactive roster fix thing, it’s generally only in the case where 1) It replicates a decision the owner could’ve made himself, but 2) they were unable/unavailable to change the roster themselves, and 3) the change would’ve been an obvious choice on their part, which usually means using the next guy available on their roster with the highest projected total for that position.

Hardman’s game kicked off at 4:30 p.m.

Fant and Hardman played in the same early game. The kickoff time is at the bottom. This is easily verifiable. Anyway, good luck this week

I’ve got both Lewis and Henry. I am going to be in church tomorrow morning, I’d like to be able to swap Lewis for Henry should Henry not be able to go.

I’m only playing for pride now.

That’s weird. I looked at the Gamebook and I could have sworn it said 4:25 before. I must have been looking at the wrong week too.

Well that was a fun season.

Congratulations to Hamlet on another championship and I can’t wait to see what happens next year. I know I’m probably going to have to replace a few retirees (including Frank Gore, the last Gusterrhoid from our original draft), but I had a great draft this year and things are definitely looking up.

"I’m really proud of our guys. They came to play, remembered what got them here, and they worked hard all year. Now, it paid off and we really got a monkey off our back.

I respect the hell out of the Neils, they had great team chemistry, and they played their hearts out today.

This one was for the fans."

It’s been 4 years since the high points scorer won the championship, which tells you a little bit about fantasy football. I loved my team going in, drafted pretty well, and I stayed relatively healthy. Plus I have a pretty youngish team, so I like my chances next year. Which is nice.

Some other fantasy football thoughts:
Fantasy MVP: Christian McCaffrey. Not only was his 392+ points just awesome, it was also 120 points better than #2. That’s just insane, especially considering last years #1 (Todd Gurley) ourscored the #2 (Saquon Barkley) by just 2 points.

Runner’s up: Lamar Jackson may have scored less total points than Mahomes did last year, but his lead in total points over the #2 QB was higher.

QB

Fantasy Stud: Lamar Jackson. Duh.

Fantasy Dud (Non-injury related): While Matt Ryan’s production took a huge hit this year, Jared Goff went from a top 6 QB to all but unstartable this year, so he gets it.

Fantasy Find: Beautiful Moose Josh Allen is the 7th highest scoring QB in the league. Sure I hate him as an NFL QB, but for fantasy purposes, he’s pretty alright.

RB

Fantasy Stud: Christian McCaffrey. Double Duh.

Fantasy Dud: Both Todd Gurley and David Johnson took huge hits to their production. In part, injury related though.

Fantasy Find: Aaron Jones exploded this year; he’s the #2 RB in the league. Not bad for a 3rd round pick a couple years ago. I also have a special place in my heart for undrafted pickup Austin Ekeler, who was our #5 RB this year.

WR

Fantasy Stud: Michael Thomas. His record breaking year put him atop the WR points.

Fantasy Dud: Antonio Brown went from Fantasy God to Complete Fucking Prick to Complete Waste of Roster Space. Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams and JuJu Smith Schuster all seriously underperformed this year.

Fantasy Find: Chris Godwin went from 27th to 2nd WR and has the look of a stud moving forward.

TE

Fantasy Stud: Travis Kelce. Three years in a row of being TE #1. The Very Definition of Stud.

Fantasy Dud: Eric Ebron disappeared from relevance for most of the year as did Trey Burton.

Fantasy Find: George Kittle has gone from free agent to stud for two years. For just this year, Darren Waller had a nice little season.

K

Fantasy Stud: Who cares?

Fantasy Dud: Who cares?

Fantasy Find: Who cares?

D/ST

Fantasy Stud: Although they tailed off a bit later in the season, the Patriots were in the running for league MVP for crushing all the other teams. Their 279 points was not just 79 better than #2, but also 60+ better than last years’ #1.

Fantasy Dud: Speaking of last years’ #1, the Bears went from #1 to #16. Makes me smile.

Fantasy Find: The 49ers went from the 3rd worst defense to the 3rd best. That’s really impressive.

Good season y’all.

Going forward, I’m not hating the fantasy QB potential of Danny [del]Dimes[/del] “Nickel” Jones (as one of the NY rags dubbed him yesterday) with his 5 TD passes against the woefully inept practice squad defense Washington put on the field on Sunday. But still, 5 TD passes in a game is encouraging.

Then again Mayfield was also a promising rookie and this year he borderline sucked ass, so who knows.

For RB duds, you forgot Barkley, at least for the regular season. In the fantasy playoffs he turned into a monster, particularly if a team had him in the championship game. In our scoring he put up 28.30 points last week (nice) and 41.90 points this week (swoon.) I imagine Jules was happy to see that as his team rolled through the consolation bracket.

While his numbers did clearly drop, he was still our #12 RB.

Well, my team kinda fell apart at the end, but I’m not disappointed with the season. I bet just about everyone had me dead last after all the trades I made. I’m also really glad about a trade I didn’t make.

While I won’t lock anything in until we regroup for next year, I’m always willing to talk trades during the off-season. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do about how to handle the draft picks I’ve got and I’m already kinda making very preliminary cuts in my mind.

Congratulations, Hamlet! Your team is definitely deserving of the victory, well done.

Now that the board is back up, do we have a way that we can stay in touch if the board suddenly shuts down for good?

I play in a semi-dynasty fantasy baseball league with a completely offline draft and we started using Google hangouts for our draft, made it easy to talk trades as well. Something like that might be an option if the SDMB does shutdown for good unexpectedly.
