SDMB Poker Q2 2010 - It's like taking Tabasco from a baby

i categorically disagree with this statement.

This sometimes happens at the start of the tourney; just log out of the poker software and back in again - usually clears it up.

Woohoo! Thank you for posting.

I suspect my reign will be short-lived unless notfrommensa totally tanks this week.

I might become NFMensaBot as I guess it is a sure fire way to finish in the top 8.

Or I might give all my chips to Meeko or Dag Otto to give them an edge in the standings.

J/K

We all have the same problem from week to week - you just gotta find out what works for you.

First try leaving the table and rejoining. If that doesn’t work, quit PokerMavens and restart. If that doesn’t work, reboot your computer and pray.

Count on it. NFM would currently have a score of 88, and even a DFL finish this week would put him around 76.

Implicit collusion, anyone?

76??? WOOT WOOT WOOT WOOT.

Collusion? Nah. My competitive drive will not let me donkey off my chips to anyone. Even if it meant keeping someone out of the DFL spot.

Couldn’t get anything going last night. Flopped a straight, (with 5/2 off) in the small blind and Yeti would give me no action, despite the min bet.

Flopped Trip Ducks and then CraneOp kept getting straightening cards. (w/ A-6 ) Arggh.

Bad luck all around except when I went all-in on Ghost with nothing and he didn’t call.

i gotta agree the one hand that i actually had a chance was a straight that i ended up chopping. crap on my all in last hand i had pocket 9s (the only time i got a pocket pair all night) and of course i run up against pocket rockets.

i got real bored seeing 73o, 85o, 92o and other crappy variations all fracking night. you know you are hurting when you get 56 suited and think this may be the pay day.

but at least there is next week.

No real point in playing the rest of the quarter, eh ?

I’m no fan of losing, either (it’s not the losing, exactly, I just hate sucking at things), but I can think of two reasons to stick around.

It’s ultimately a social game. It’s a chance to shoot the breeze, and there’s no money on the line. Console yourself with how much money you’d be losing to get the same experience in the real world.

Or think of the rest of this quarter as practice for the next one. Try some different strategies; there’s nothing to lose. (I can’t promise that will work. I’ve been in poker funks that have taken months to get out of.)

What, our charm and wit aren’t sufficient to keep you around?

Seconding what Root said.

seconding what oslo said which i guess is thirding what root said.

Courtesy bump and also to say to Meeko, Yes there is, just think about how much satisfaction it will be to climb out the cellar.

You can always celebrate the small victories.

I tried to recruit Covered_In_Bees to the poker game this week. it seemed like he had some lukewarm interest. I hope he plays, as scary as it might be to be sitting next to someone that is covered in bees. I would like to be at the other table.

Agree with mensa and robot that you should treat it at practice, try out strategies, just have fun. If you keep getting your money in with the lead, eventually you’ll win. (Variance means that it might take awhile, though…)

As far as Covered_In_Bees, I’m not scared of someone covered in bees; I’m scared of someone who follows poker to the extent of initiating a WSOP thread. Though one of the best ways to get better is to play with better players. Accordingly, I wouldn’t mind seeing Gadarene, Sam Stone, or any of the others who’ve jumped in on threads dealing with the mathematics/strategy of poker.

Oh, and the reason I didn’t call mensa is that I didn’t hit my draw, and figured the chance that your garbage couldn’t beat my garbage wasn’t worth my stack. (I will ignore the donkalicious shove I made later to giftwrap Yeti, and I forget who else, 3rd and 4th. Stupid! Stupid! I’m so stupid!)
