Question (and forgive me if I missed the answer by skimming the thread): is it a one-on-one exchange (i.e. I send Poster A a gift and (s)he sends me one), or is it a round robin thing where it’s likely I will be sending and receiving with two entirely different people?
Whee! Amen to that, it’s always fun. Which really, I’m only posting to bump this thread for the weekend crowd so nobody else almost misses out like I nearly did this year.
Sign-up is still open through tonight! I’m off tomorrow and will be sleeping in, so I’ll make an official “closed” post before I start working on assignments (they are not entirely random because not everyone can ship internationally, plus I will be making sure nobody gets the same person as last year, and in some cases matching up appropriate interests).
I am an American woman living in Tokyo, and can get pretty much everything here except for a very few oddball items: things like Planter’s Honey Roasted Peanuts (they sell some other nasty-tasting brand), maple sugar candy, Double Stuf Oreos (they sell regular Oreos here), Marshmallow Fluff and Entenmann’s Devil’s Food Cake with Marshmallow Icing. I lie awake and fantasize about Entenmann’s cake…
I look forward to sending something whack from Japan! Ho ho ho!
First, you separate all of the people who are willing to ship internationally and put them in a pile with the international folks.
Then you match them like this:
Person one matches to Person 2
Person 2 matches to Person 3
And so on. When you have all of the international people matched, you can add your remaining people in together and continue matching. Make sure to include yourself!
The last person on your list matches to Person 1. And voila! The hardest part is making sure everyone gets the right address.
Still, thanks to Silvorange for doing it! Especially if she is matching up interests. Whoa, nellie!
It really isn’t hard, and I love doing it. Since I still have last year’s list, I’m making sure nobody gets the same person. We have a quite a few more participants from outside the US and Canada this year, which is fun! It’s mostly random with a few tweaks here and there. For instance, last year someone mentioned being an Anglophile, so there was no way I wasn’t going to assign her to the one person from England! Once assignments are given out, I just keep up to make sure everybody has gotten something and hopefully been acknowledged. Half the fun is hearing about what everybody got.
Assignments tomorrow! I’m so excited! And, with the addition of KinkyNipponTourist, we are up to 42. That’s a lucky number- it is both the answer to the very important question of Life, the Universe, and Everything, and the age I will be on my birthday in a couple of weeks. This is my favorite month!
Sign-up is still open until I drag my ass out of bed tomorrow.
So tomorrow is the day when the application closes. Do we also find out our gift recipient tomorrow? (Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere and I just happened to miss it.)
Yes, I will make a post to officially close sign ups right before I start working on assignments. I will PM everybody and then post again here to say that they’re all done.
I’m going to be tacky and repost my list. Books are cool too. I love sci-fi and good historical fiction. One problem, I hate sad endings, although sadness during the book is ok. Yes, I’m being picky! If you are not from the USA, what’s the favorite local candy bar?
Uhhh, I wasn’t very specific in my “LIKES” … hint, hint, I LOVES all things Japanese or Chinese or India (i.e, curry mixes), UK – yes, I’m eclectic – and again, LOCAL gizmos, art, toys, books, music, ethnic anything …
NOT picky here, and I am so grateful for this! It really kicks off “The Season” so nicely.
