In a rare fit of industry, I managed to get a local-themed gift in the mail today. Along with a birthday gift for a friend in Canada. At least one of those gifts should arrive before the big day.
And now I return to my regularly-scheduled procrastination.
I picked up the local thing today (and anybody I have had in a gift exchange before knows what that will be) and all but finished a crocheted item that I would like to keep for myself. I might have to make another when this is all done. My Santee will also be benefitting from the fact that I have missed making candy while I have been avoiding sugar for the past 6 months or so. I have a new recipe I want to try out before I make it for my Christmas party, and I want to make some favorites just because. I can’t have all that in the house, though, so off it goes!
I am almost done making the main gift, and will pick up a local knickknack today – the trick will be getting to the PO. Prob. Thursday or Friday, but if I mail first class we should be fine.
Okay, Dopers, need a judgment call, here. Trying to find one last fun thing for my giftee, and want to know if something is appropriate.
Some background: In my family, one of our holiday traditions is giving each other Christmas-themed boxer shorts; the more obnoxious, the better. I thought it might be funny to send a pair to my giftee.
Now, normally, of course, I’d never send underwear to an anonymous female stranger on the Internet, because creepy. But I know plenty of women who like oversized boxers as sleepwear and to knock around in, and I think a pair of Grinch or Santa shorts doesn’t give off a stalkery vibe.
My package is in its way west. According to the tracking info, it should arrive by Thursday. So someone west of the Mississippi River will be receiving a deceptively light parcel soon.
I got my loot!!! And yes, I opened it because, at heart, I’m four and very impatient!
Someone kinda, sorta seems to have gone just a *wee *bit overboard. To whit:
a pair of knitted mug mats - one red and one green. Perfect for a mug o’hot tea!
a couple of ornaments - one frosted glass ball with “Peace” on one side and a star on the other, plus a “HoHoHo” all glittery and sparkly and perfect for hanging on the door
a silicone potholder - it’s really cool! Plus it could be a hot pad or a grippy thingie for opening stuck jars
a tube of Burt’s Bees lip balm with a rather disturbing suggestion about smooching my puppy!
a box of chocolate Jello pudding! Someone knows I’m a bit of a chocoholic!
Thank you ever so much, peedin!! You brightened an otherwise dreary day! Plus chocolate!
Thanks for the input! I did throw 'em in, after all - I figured that the kind of person who can see something erotic in the Grinch and Max is probably the sort of twisted perv who is used to receiving underwear from strangers on the interwebz. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
I trust my Santee’s reaction will be “What a delightful bit of holiday whimsy!”, and not “I’m sending your name to the FBI, you sick bastard.”
ETA: Should go out tomorrow, depending on how much it costs to ship - I might have to wait to payday at the end of the week.
I finished making what I made last night – hope my Santee likes it – and bought a bit of local color on Sunday. Now I just have to wrap it and write a card and put it in a box and go to the PO …
