I’m back on the wagon again. It’s been a crazy bunch of months for me. In May, I moved 150 miles away and out of my mother’s house; during all the insanity of moving, I lost a tiny bit of weight because I was active all the time. Within a few weeks of moving, I was able to secure a job. It’s not great, especially not for losing weight, as I am a receptionist on evenings and weekends. My schedule’s all out of whack, but lately I’ve been working on exercising and eating right again. I exercised for the past couple of days, and now I’ve got pent-up energy that I can’t seem to find time to get rid of. :smack: It’s hot outside, so I get the choice of exercising indoors (and driving several miles to do something more strenuous than the bellydance video or the pilates video), or I can go run in the hot, muggy Orlando weather. At least I’m exercising.
Current stats: 5’9.5", 210 lbs.
Goal (for now): 20 lbs. over 6 months or one to two clothing sizes down
I took advantage of the tax free holiday in Florida today, as I needed new clothes for work. I just couldn’t wear pants that were worn out to the point of falling apart, but I’d been avoiding it for the past three months because I wanted to be a smaller size before I bought any new clothes. The thing is, I’ve been changing size and proportion for the past three months, but I haven’t changed a clothing size. I just need to keep in gear and keep up the exercise and make sure I’m more active during the day in addition to watching what I eat. It’ll probably get easier after it cools off a little outside, as I’ll have more options.
Reporting in from the weigh-in. I lost a sensible 1.6 pounds this week, a very good loss. :). We will be away this weekend, and are planning ahead as much as possible.
Hi, I haven’t been to a SDMBWLC meeting before, but I just joined Weight Watchers and decided to wander by and join in here, too.
I’m a 5’5" female, currently at 229.2 lbs, per WW scale on 8/9. That’s down from 247 per doctor’s scale in February.
I have already, by the way, fallen in love with the No-Points Vegetable Soup linked to by WhyNot. I’m already plotting out the variation of adding mushrooms and extra spices* and leaving out zucchini. (Diced? Diced? Hell, no, I like big chunks of veggies in my soup!)
Well more-or-less one week so far. I had weighed myself on Tuesday at 207. Was holding at 204 through Sunday morning’s weigh-in. This morning, 206. I guess all the keg beer at a friend’s two-day bbq/birthday party swung back around to get me. (Okay, beer and burgers and steaks and ho-hos and chips/dip and I did eat a few baby carrots so that was good and birthday cake and… you get the point.) Minor fluxuations in weight, I know, but it was a reminder that I can’t just do what I want without a cost. So, no beer for me tonight at volleyball and sensible meals this week.
Didn’t make it to the gym on Saturday either which was a goal of mine to get my 3x a week in. HOWEVER, in my defense, I spent hours of hard yard work both Saturday and Sunday in the heat. Between digging out an old walkway buried under 6 inches of dirt/weed/grass and tree-trimming maintenance, I figure I burned more calories than I would have in the gym anyway.
In spite of a very naughty dinner last night I weighed in at 171 this morning.
I only made my walk 1 day last week so this week I’m determined to get the walk in at least 4 days.
nashiitashii I’m in the Orlando area too and I know what you’re saying about the heat. I take my walk before the sun comes up and it’s still muggy as hell. I saw some people jogging yesterday just before noon and couldn’t understand why. With the heat index it’s like 110 outside, jogging at noon is just crazy.
I’ve also played the “I’m not buying clothes until I lose weight” game. In the end it is just necessary to have things that fit, no matter what your size. If you’re absolutely certain that you won’t be this size much longer try shopping at thrift stores. Sometimes you can find stuff that fits that’s so inexpensive that you don’t care if you throw it out in a month.
I think that game backfires a lot. If your clothes don’t fit properly, you don’t feel good about how you look. That makes it a lot tougher to lose weight.
I, personally, have only bought maybe two pieces of clothing full-price retail since I had my surgery (and those were at Wal Mart!) Otherwise, I shop thrift stores, consignment shops, beg clothes from other people (thanks, Gingy!), and look for mark downs. That way, I have clothes that fit me, but I don’t spend a lot of money on them.
I weighed in at home this morning and was 245.2, which was 0.8 more than last Monday morning. I suspect the four pounds I lost the week before was at least half water weight from a lot of activity over that weekend, so I’m fine with it. The important thing was that when I weighed in at my doctor’s appointment a little bit later this morning, I was six pounds lighter than I was two weeks ago. Woohoo! The nurse who weighed me was even excited; apparently very few patients are willing to lose weight, or if they’re told to they ask for a drug to help.
I’m starting physical therapy for my neck problems this week. Maybe having mandated and approved exercises will help me get moving.
I haven’t been sticking to plan for about a month now, and the last couple of weeks have been particularly bad. However, my jeans have started to get a bit tight.
So, this morning, I started back on plan, and went for a walk.
I’ve been crazy busy lately but still going to the gym in the a.m. and running at night. The scale is now wavering between 164 and 165 for the past few days so I’m really happy with that. I see the 150’s in my future!
I’m glad to see so many people on the badwagon, a special shout out to my fellow WW’ers.
Any of you doing WW’ers buy any of the 2 point bars? I like them a little TOO much and I am going to NOT buy them this week and see what that does. I bought a bunch of fruit instead. Any of you doing CORE? I want to but I’m a bit nervous.
What food plans are the rest of you doing? You’re own thing? Healthy eating?
Also, who here is exercising and how much do you do? I know that I would lose very little weight if I did not exercise, my metabolism is that of a snail.
I’m going to try and do pics later if I can figure out how to get them on a site. I tried but it was taking a LONG time so I gave up. I’ll fool with it later.
I haven’t bought any WW bars, but I have bought WW frozen entrees (1 sirloin beef & 1 salisbury steak: both good), WW ice cream bars (acceptable) and WW chocolate cake (very blah), just for testing purposes. I won’t buy the cake again, I’ll spend the points for good cake if I want it in the future. The entrees I might buy for lunches at work; they’re cheaper than the cafeteria, but a bit small.
On the other hand, I have Hershey and 3 Musketeer 100-calorie bars that are 2 points each that I like a lot. I have, in fact, a big stash of 100 calorie/90 calorie pack items that are all 2 points each that I’ve picked up for lunches and snacks. I’ve been eating them for a few weeks before I joined up.
And I’m doing the flex plan. Our leader says it’s okay to switch back and forth from week to week, though. See if you can try core for a week or two and switch back to flex if it doesn’t work for you.
Your leader is right about switching back and forth with the plans. I do Core and on occasion I must switch to Flex, simply for convenience.
Along with the 100 calorie packs, (something that I do try to avoid, for myself) I would suggest that you pick up some Fiber One bars. The chocolate chip flavor is 2 points, very tasty, high in fiber, and very filling. The peanut butter flavor is 3 points, but not quite as good.
One thing that our WW leader talks about is avoiding frozen entrees. They are low in calories, yes, but they are also high in sodium and other preservatives, and can actually hinder weight loss. What I do is cook extra and freeze/save in containers for quick lunches and meals. That has really helped me.
I will see if I can pick some up. I know they’re not nutritious or anything, but I also know that I’ll crash and burn if I try to go cold turkey on the snacks (especially the chocolate). So. I’m going for the small, easily controlled portions.
I have plenty of fruit and veggies to help balance 'em out, though.
Yeah, I know. But I wanted to give 'em a taste run. I’ve also been experimenting with 1-serving recipes at home, and will do the “cook extra and save” thing once I’ve worked some out. I made a nifty little whole-wheat pasta and salsa thing yesterday that was pretty good.
