Seen Any Good Movies Lately? A Cinematic MMP

It’s the WEEKEND! Yay!!!

skips gleefully out the MMP

Today was the looooooooonnnnnnnnngest day! Glad the week is over.

Daughter and I are going to see my mom tomorrow, among other things. **FCD **is going to be futzing in his shop. SIL has homework.

Sunday, I’ll be working on clay bits for my class project, and doing laundry.

Hope it’s a relaxing weekend - I need one.

Off to forage for supper…

I think I forgot to send good healing wishes out for Dotty’s dad. Hope he’s all better very soon.

I wanna wear jeans every day too.

::fans self in reaction to MBG’s post::

Shelli, I think I had the same reaction to classes for quite a while. Maybe even into my sophomore year. I wanted to become a cartographer, geologist and landscape architect all in the same year. And that’s just some of my potential careers.

I’m highly happy to be home and faced with a weekend. It’s supposed to be very cold tomorrow, so I’ll be indoors mostly. Got my w-2s in the mail today, so I might try getting stuff together to do my taxes.

Back later…

It’s been a long day, and today was my RDO. Woke up early so I could take the daughter down to UW.

Her class had a scheduled field trip to the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, but the university was too damn cheap to pop for a van, so they had to take the bus to Seattle. Anyway, my daughter wasn’t sure what time the outing was supposed to end, and in our discussion this morning, she said she’d probably ride the bus back to Tacoma and I could pick her up from there.

Good, thinks I, now I can get some stuff done. So, on the way home I stopped at the grocery store, and then came home to pay some bills. I noticed a big whoopsee with the sewer bill, so I had drive all the way back to downtown Tacoma to get that squared away.

My son and I were almost home from Tacoma, when I got a phone call from my daughter saying she needed a ride, and was in SEATTLE. Okay, it’s 2:30, rush hour has started, there loads of construction everywhere, and I’m not happy. On the other hand, I can’t leave her stranded up there by herself. Her class had split up and everyone just left her.

I told my daughter I had to call her father so he could give me the fastest and shortest route there and then I’d call her back. Since I was driving, I had my son call my husband, and the husband blew a gasket. Understandably, he was tired and had just got done working 10 hours. However, he was under the impression that I KNEW she needed a ride from Seattle and that I knew what time to be there. I didn’t know any of that, so we argued and I went upstairs pissed.

Hubby was all prepared to drive up there and get her, which is not what I wanted, I just wanted the best route.

Anyway, things worked out, because in the meantime, my daughter got a hold of her boyfriend who was only 20 minutes away, and he offered to come pick her up. Thank God, because it would have taken us two hours to get there.

-The work week was hellacious and very stressful. I was hoping for a stress free day today, but it didn’t happen.

Dotty, I’m keeping your Dad in my thoughts and I’m glad to read he’s on the way to recovery.

Oh, we had and earthquake this morning. I don’t really remember it, but it sure woke my daughter’s boyfriend up. He called her this morning to ask if she had felt it. She didn’t feel it.

Hm, guess that’s all I’ve got for now. Hugs, kisses, yays and boos as appropriate all around.

Yay for Firday and Papa John’s pizza, that’s what we had for dindin tonight. The works, which was voted best pizza for the Super Bowl on Channel 4 yesterday. They actually had a huge amount of toppings on there, when usually Papa John’s is a bit skimpy. Well, at least the one we usually get pizza from, that is.

Went grocery shopping today too, and got a “boston butt” which I’m going to put in the crock pot and make barbeque pulled pork with. I’m also going to make a lasagna and maybe some chicken white chili this weekend. LOL Yes, I’m feeling rather ambitious! I’ve still got the ingredients for Rebo’s lemon cheese pie, and might make that as well.

Sending healing thoughts to Dotty’s Dad - what a scary situation! At least it does sound like he’s recovering okay now. And continued good thoughts for Rebo’s Dad.

No real plans for the weekend; I’ve got plenty more yarn now, thanks to my daughter making a foray to Jo-Ann’s a few days ago. I’m still working on the berry variegated afghan, which has gotten quite large, and now have enough yarn for two more afghans. I think daughter wants one, as one batch is a variegated pastel, which is a favorite of hers.

Dindin was ok. I was really disappointed in the shrimp and scallops. Oh well, whachu gonna do. It’s Dead Lobster. At least it was all free.

That’s about it from swampland folks.

Enjoy your Friday or whatever night/day whatever it is wherever you are!

Tupug, I never knew that there was such a thing as dog diapers. They look a lot like baby diapers. I’m not sure that he won’t make himself miserable trying to get them off but it’s worth a try.

The acacias here started to bloom today and that’s always the first sign of spring so that cheered me up a bunch. The warm weather has him up and toddling around too and that’s a big improvement.

My first born turned 14 today. It’s bittersweet, him growing up. But I really like the person he’s growing into. He’s a good kid.

We had sushi for his birthday dinner and what really wanted as a gift was to start collecting electric trains. We bought him his first set today. Doesn’t seem that long ago we bought him Thomas The Tank Engine wooden trains. But it was…

For the record, Bride of Frankenstein sucks. The monster didn’t kill the one person in the movie who needed killin’ (the horribly unfunny “comic relief”).

Dotty, sending your Dad many wishes for a speedy recovery, and a qucik shoulder rub for you because geez that must have been scary.

Taters, I hope your weekend smoothes your week out and I can just imagine the relief of not having to make a 2 hour drive. Glad you haven’t been too rattled up. I’m always a bit nervous when the PNW quakes, thinking that it’ll cause a domino effect and continue on up the fault line to us. It took me years to get over the edginess from the Nisqually.

Karyn, doggie diapers are new to me, too. I had to pick some up for my BIL’s girlfriend on my way out to her place. One of her oggies (Bug) was in heat and there are a quite a few dogs out there on the ranch. Yah, who knew? Also, great photo of the acacia. Spring can’t come soon enough.

Soapie, they just had a model train show here in the valley. Wow! The landscaping, the tiny people, the rivers and trestles were so cool. Great hobby. If he’s truly collecting them, he knows to keep the boxes, right?

The little acrylic box that we use for our small change couldn’t hold one more coin without it sliding off the heap. Kinda surprised that $17 worth of dimes, nickles and pennies were in there.

I followed a link on another MB that seems to have all the knitters atwitter. Have any Mumpers heard of The Ravelry?

I was at work on Ft Lewis when the Nisqually quake hit. The building I worked in at the time was (and still is) a 40’s relic that has giant tiles on the roof. They all came crashing down and the chimmneys (these are three story buildings) were swaying and BENDING. It was crazy.

I was just coming up the outside stairs from the basement to go out and have a cigarette when I started feeling kind of seasick. Then there was a huge roar and everything started swaying and shaking. It was something alright.

Chop-chop is in the oven and we are kidless for the night. Daughter is staying at the boyfriend’s place (she’s 19, not much we can say or do), and the son is staying at a friend’s house. So, I have a giant tatertot casserole in the oven and there are only two of us here to eat it.

rehearsal tonight instead of last night because our coach is in town. She says each time she comes we sound better and better - plus we have more gals in the chorus each time as well.
Tomorrow we rehearse from 8am to 4pm (with a lunch break) Tomorrow I will be able to determine if I have the strength to stand on the risers for the necesary 8 minutes.
But right now, I am going to enjoy a lovely adult beverage and fall asleep afterwards.

Nothing new to report.

I hope you can do it, rosie!

Hope your Saturday is stress free, Taters.

LiLi, I hope Nat isn’t picking up the cat like this.

Next time, take the Dreaded Lobster card to Olive Garden - same parent company, so they will probably accept it.

(Assuming you’re in the mood for a Tour of Italy, rather than heavily breaded shrimp)

I’ve been knitting and watching stuff on hulu. Second scarf is almost done. Watched a couple of episodes of Dresden Files and the latest Burn Notice.

Off to sleepy-bye…

GT

Blurf.

Anything else relating to me being awake too early would just be weird TMI.

  1. I notice Mumpers are slacking in the participating-in-the-Valentine-exchange department. Here’s the thread.

  2. We don’t have a [del]victim[/del] volunteer to get us started on Monday, yet…

  3. I’ve heard of people who stay up late watching TV or movies, and of people who stay up late reading, but people who stay up late knitting??? Yeah, that’s me.

And now I’m awake. I’m trying to talk myself into falling asleep again.

GT

Up, thanks to barking Scruffy. Stoopit dog. On the other hand, she didn’t pee on the carpet.

Last night I knitted a dishcloth for my mom. I’d made her one, but I wanted to take 2, so now I will. We’re going to leave around 8:30, so after I finish reading the comics, I’ll shower and dress for the chilly day. One stop at Clayworks for some new tools, and maybe some clay, then lunch and visit with Mom, stop by MamaTig’s place to drop off 2 helmet liners, and home again. Gonna be a long day in the car. Ah the joys of living in the boonies…

Hope you all have a wunnerful Saturday. I may check back in tonight.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s cold outside! Frost on the ground even.

No big plans for today. Last night we kicked around the idea of goin’ to Circuit City to see if there’s any deals bein’ as they are havin’ a goin’ out of bidness sale. We shall see. I do need to make the chicken casserole for brunch tomorrow as well. The big plus to goin’ and scopin’ out CC is we’d be real near the good Chinese place and I wouldn’t mind me some Chinese food for lunch.

gotti we don’t have an Olive Garden believe it or not. Matter of fact the closest one I know of is up in Columbus, Jawja about 85 miles away. Needless to say we ain’t drivin’ that far just for that. I had the wood grilled shrimp, scallops and chicken. Not bad but we do have better places for seafood around heah.

Ok. I’m off to search for more caffiene.

Later Y’all!

Afternoon all. Thanks for the good wishes for Dad - I am sure it all helps!

I fluked a really tasty Macaroni & Cheese recipe this morning, in my quest to find “Food that HRH won’t spit out”:

HRH’s Favourite Macaroni & Cheese

1½ cups dried macaroni
1 tablespoon cornflour/corn starch
1 cup milk
100ml thickened cream
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup grated/shredded processed cheese (eg. Velveeta)
Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Cook macaroni according to taste (I prefer al dente, since it will cook a little more in the sauce) and drain (DO NOT RINSE).
  2. Mix the cornflour with a couple of tablespoons of the milk.
  3. In a jug, mix the rest of the milk with the cream and the mustard.
  4. Pour the milk/cream mix into a saucepan and warm over medium heat until almost boiling, then add the honey.
  5. Add the cheese and stir until the cheese has completely melted into the sauce.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add in the cornflour mix, stirring as the sauce thickens.
  7. Finally, add the drained macaroni into the sauce and stir until thoroughly coated.
  8. Serve with whatever takes your fancy (or just eat it on its own, by the bowlful!).

HRH scoffed down a bowlful of it for lunch, with some flaked tuna mixed in!

Okay, wow! The MMP did it again! HRH just laid down on the tiled floor next to my computer chair (with the lights on and all, including construction noise from the building site next door) and just fell asleep! I had given up on getting her to have an afternoon nap today, but you guys have done it!
