Shame on those that refuse the vaccine

I’m not sure what you’re looking for from me, but I am aware that this is the third or fourth time you’ve raised this. The thing is, your first response conceded the only point I was trying to make, which is that it’s not cool to cheer for ignorant people to die. Right?

Like, of course it’s bad that their ignorance is killing people. Of course it is stupid to not do what you can do to prevent that.

I hope we’ve all learned that we should not make emotional statements here in the pit. That’s just not on. From now on, we must all be understanding about people who cause death and suffering, and only send good thoughts their way.

Because the pit is to be place of kindness and reasonableness from now on.

Amen.

Note here that you’re using similar terms to describe behaviors that

  • are mean spirited expressions of frustration vs.
  • kill people

I know you don’t intend to equate these things, but when one person is saying mean things behind someone’s back and another person is contributing to a situation that kills hundreds of people a day, we need to distinguish between the acts.

No matter how hard @Locrian hates these non-vaxxing bar goers, he isn’t killing any of them. In fact, the very thing he hates is that their choices may kill some other non-vaxxing bar goers he’s also complaining about.

That sounds like false bravado. Really, you’re willing to be fired rather than get vaccinated? Very few employees in the Methodist Health System in Houston let things get to that drastic point.

Add in loss of being able to do “normal” things like eating out, going to concerts, shopping etc. (assuming a crackdown involving vaccine “passports” gains steam) and I suspect a lot of these people will discover they can tolerate the idea of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Shaming doesn’t do a lot of good when it comes to the shameless.

Yeah, I understand. People are complicated critters! One can be trustworthy in one sense of the word, while holding pretty nutty beliefs like the anti-vaxx stuff.

But it’s not just “I honestly didn’t know” - there’s a big difference between that and “Fuck you, I don’t care.”

I’ll put it this way, I don’t necessarily want that guy dead, but I want him/her dead before he has a chance to kill me or someone else with his recklessness. No different than a drunk driver or someone walking into Times Square on New Years Eve and firing an AK-47 into the air.

I don’t know what your point is. I strongly suspect you don’t either.
I do, as it happens. And your inability to understand the implications of what you yourself wrote is not my fault.

Oh, don’t give up now just as we’re discussing your repeated disingenuous reframing of other people’s arguments. But I understand why you might want to.

My question is if it’s okay to hope their last sight is of me pissing on their face if they do die.

OK, that may be a tad harsh.

Yeah, too much.

Wishing for them to suffer the consequences of their own actions is sufficient.

I have a feeling the takeaway from this would be, “It’s like we’ve been saying - this so-called virus was a hoax and went away by itself! The vaccines did nothing!”

(Y2K) “see, there were no problems with the computers! We wasted all that money reprogramming them for nothing!”

From this site:

This verbage:
Autoimmune conditions

People with autoimmune conditions may receive a COVID-19 vaccine. However, they should be aware that no data are currently available on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines for people with autoimmune conditions. People from this group were eligible for enrollment in some of the clinical trials. More information about vaccine clinical trials can be found below.

I guess I am stupid…because I see NAFT “below”.

It’s ok, there are only a few of us.

About 10 F’ing million.

Yes, I “hit for the cycle”…4 autoimmune diseases.

BS Microbiology
MS Immunology
5 years research tech at one of the leading autoimmune centers in the world.

Told my PCP’s early 20-something’s PA she was out of her depth when she told me I should get the vaccine.
My PCP agreed…and apologized.

Call me when the hyperbolic self righteous indignance ends, and real double blind case studies exist.

Because, unfortunately, unlike ex-Prez Orange Man or Prez. Mr. Mumbles I don’t have an in house physician nor a helicopter to whisk me away to a leading medical facility if it turns out that the vaccine triggers something bad.

In the meantime, i am at home…and no threat to you, bless your little hearts.

Y’see ? I’m fine. I didn’t need that MF’in parachute anyway …

Factors to think about:

Covid-19 disease may lead to worse outcomes, including hospitalization and serious illness in people with autoimmune diseases.

The experience to date has been reassuring about safety and efficacy of Covid-19 vaccination in this group, though questions remain about overall effectiveness.

Yes, there’s a huge difference, and of course the “fuck you, don’t care” description applies to a lot of people. What I’ve been saying is that the “honestly didn’t know” group also exists in some number–not every single person who isn’t vaccinated is a person making TikToks of themselves driving down the highway and saying “fuck you Fauci, fuck you Tom Hanks” and talking about microchips and AI or whatever. All you have to do is look at the demographics on vaccinations to see that it’s a much broader, much more complex problem. As much as people in this thread love to pretend it’s what I’m doing, presumably to make themselves feel better about defending behavior they know is indefensible (and probably in other threads have called indefensible), I haven’t come close to suggesting that people shouldn’t criticize anti-vaxers. What I said is that saying hope they all die, they’re probably all Republikans about every single person who hasn’t been vaccinated is fucked up.

And also, today, that calling people “retarded shitheads” because you’re ooh very mad at them is real fucked up, and not OK to just shrug off as good old locker room talk blowin’ off some steam with the boys. It’s fucking mindblowing that that comment is not only not being called out, it’s being defended by liberals.

Anyway, yes, it’s obviously perfectly reasonable to prefer that a person taking crazy risks should suffer the consequences themselves rather than making someone else pay for their mistake.

I agree with you, so what do you suppose we should do about the willfully ignorant that refuse to get vaccinated just because they were able to find self-serving blowhards that told them what they wanted to hear? It is pretty obvious that letting them run around infecting others and giving new strains of Covid time to develop and spread isn’t optimal for survival.

Definitely not optimal, and I for sure don’t claim to have all the answers. It’s a sticky wicket. But since you put me on the spot… rebuild society from the ground up through massive wealth confiscation and a brutal anti-corruption crackdown, dismantle the media apparatus that enables disinformation to so effectively identify and exploit its targets (to the extent step 1 didn’t do that already), and replace it with robust state-owned communications infrastructure that protects a wide range of opinion but maintains tight controls on journalistic standards and eliminates the profit-seeking motivation to be sensational, with or without me personally serving as lifetime Civility Tsar, give people personal material stakes in the well-being of society by making sure they have the economic and medical necessities for survival taken care of (via the redistribution of Step 1’s wealth) and allowing them to pursue success as they define it, and see whether that affects the scale of their susceptibility to conspiracy theories and junk science?

Alternatively, we could send two-man death squads composed of this thread’s hardest cases to seek out targets, call them all “retarded shitheads” and “piss on their faces," maybe helicopter-style like Sarah Palin hunting wolves? All rivers empty into the sea, but it never spills over.

Thanks ever so much for your “reasonable” responses- rebuild all of society, or send out hit squads.
How about stricter fines, or even jailtime, for those that feed upon the gullible by feeding into their paranoia? When you are disseminating information known to be false for the purpose of obtaining money and or political power, a week’s suspension from You Tube or Facebook is a fucking joke.

You asked me what I supposed we should do. What I suppose we should do is nuke Facebook from the face of the planet, not fine people extra for violating Facebook’s policies.
