I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this (maybe cafe society would be more appropriate…) anyway, if you’re a mod and think this thread should be moved, please do so…
So, now that that’s cleared, here’s my story:
I and a couple of my friends remember a quote from the simpsons, and use it very often in our day to day conversations. Most probably the quote is by Homer, he asks someone (probably Bart) to do something (probably something really stupid), and when the other person doesn’t do it, he says “DO IT” with a very big accent on the i that makes it last very long in the IT.
Anyway, we can’t come up with the episode and the context. This has been lasting for over 3-4 months. Actually, this summer, after 3 days delibaration we decided that it was when he asked Hugh (the brittish guy that was going to mary Lisa in the episode where a gypsy woman tells her her future) to pull his finger, and then Hugh says that they have this joke in England, we thought that Homer said “DO IT” right after. This was settled and everything was wonderful.
But SURPRISE! Recently we found out that Homer just says “Pull my finger” again…tragedy! With no one else to turn to, I’m turning to the teeming millions.
Even though this doesn’t seem to have all that much importance in today’s world of more important stuff like war, terrorism and…war on terrorism…it is very important for me and my friends.
I can think of two episodes off the top of my head where a threatening “dooo iiiiiit!!” was spoken:
The latest one was by Homer when the family went to Brazil to find Lisa’s sponsored orphan. Bart had just become fluent in spanish on the plane by listening to audio cassettes, when Marge told him they speak portuguese in Brazil. Homer told Bart to forget it all now, and when Marge objected he said the line. I think I’m right here, but there is no script posted yet for that episode so I’m not 100% sure.
The other earlier one was when Grampa was insisting that Bart and Lisa sing the “armour hotdog” song in the kitchen when he was dating Marge’s mom.
There is the episode where Homer is framed for murder - lame, lame, LAME episode - but anyway… as he’s being hauled away after being found guilty, he tells his lawyer to play the race card. When the lawyer hesitates, he says “PLAY IT!” in the way you’re describing.
i definitely know what you’re talking about, but trying to remember what exact episode it was is pretty hard. what comes to mind at this second is the episode where Homer and Bart were grifting (con artists) and homer wanted bart to do another con job… im not sure though but i’ll be back if i can think of something else.
I think its’ the one where Homer says something to the effect of it being his house and thus Bart does things his way. Then Homer says, “Butter your bacon… now bacon your sausage…” and Bart responds, “But Dad, my arteries are clogging.” Then Homer (I think) says, “Do it… do it…”
I think maybelze05 has a lead on what I’m searching exactly:
I think that Homer asked Bart to do something and when he hesitated he said the line. However I can’t remember what he asked him to do…I’ll check with the site with the scripts…
I saw the Brazil episode not too long ago and I don’t think he said “DO IT” in that episode…
Well i’ve been looking ever since i posted and i haven’t been able to find much. It wasn’t from the episode i thought it was, at least not according to snpp.com. The link KarmaComa listed does have Homer telling Bart to “Do it” (it’s the episode where Homer takes over the pee-wee football team from Flanders)
i don’t know though. It just doesn’t seem right. Maybe that was just another episode that he said that in…
Are you sure it’s a Simpsons episode? Remember Godfather’s Pizza commercials? “Do iiiiiit!” was what the ‘Godfather’ said in that Fonzie-esque accent at the end of each one? If there was a Simpsons episode with someone saying “Do iiiit,” maybe it was a reference to that? I’m pretty tight with my Simpsons knowledge usually, and though the phrase rings a bell, kind of, it’s a pretty common phrase, methinks.
Dunno, really though, would have to be in the mind of your friend who quoted it to know for sure, I guess.
Homer : Now, bacon up that sausage, boy!
Bart : But, Dad, my heart hurts!
Homer silenty glares at Bart, Bart sighs and does what he’s told, then Lisa proclaims that she’s a Buddhist.
maybelze05 got it. I checked the episode, which I have on my computer, and found that Homer did, indeed, say “do it” in the same threatening voice that he said “play it,” “wave it,” and other quotes mentioned in this thread.
