OK, this waking up in the middle of the night has got to stop! I had a hard time falling asleep in the first place, then I woke around 3 and was not able to fall back to sleep. I’m so tired I can hardly see straight. I didn’t get any more than 4 hours total.
And today I was bestowed the honor of being boss for the next 2 weeks. My boss is heading to FL to play golf and unwind after a few weeks of hell. I was the only one in the office when he arrived and he asked if I wanted the job. I said OK. After all, I really don’t have much going on and subbing for him is pretty easy. I’ve got 4 meetings in the 2 weeks and if tasking comes in, I need to make sure it goes to the right people. And, of course, I will be abused. So yay for playing boss.
It feels like summer today, but the temps will be back in the low 60s tomorrow. I’ve got the house open, which would be great, except some local farmer fertilized, so the air reeks. I checked my shoes to be sure I hadn’t stepped in anything. But I’m not closing the windows - I enjoy the breeze.
No idea what supper will be - have a couple of leftover chickie tits - maybe chicken and dumplins? That sounds easy. Then bed. I’s beat…
Teammates went for NOL without me. Considering insertion of one of gotti’s coasters in appropriate or inappropriate orifices, maybe in ad hoc orifices even. Local cafeteria found to be woefully inadequate: it includes warm-up facilities (a veritable battery of microwave ovens) and a “buffet” which is a very skimpy build-your-own-salad. Left after pseudoNOL, weak from lack of sugar and figuring out that they’d call me if they missed me. Was able to trade ticket for an earlier train for free, yay me and yay Renfe.
Added an item to the List Of Stuff You Don’t Expect On The Floor which I didn’t even know I had: an upper-jaw half-denture. I picked it up wrapping it in TP and handed it to the train’s hostess, at which point a man who was rummaging in his hand luggage said “that’s mine!” OK… I do hope they don’t get a lot of those in the Lost and Found.
Got a call from the teammates at 18:30, at which time I would have needed to be on the short-distance train on my way to the long-distance train anyway
Purplehorseshoe (I know we had a nickname for you but I can’t remember it right now.), that sounds like an interesting weekend!
Are you in the Upper Midwest? That sounds like pretty much what we’ve got here. It was well into the 70s yesterday and we watched the ice break up on a lake for a while, and now it’s in the 50s again. I like this weather better than that. It was humid yesterday! It shouldn’t be humid in early April in Minnesota!
Sorry your teammates went out for lunch without you, Nava. That’s not nice!
I’m still fighting the cold that KT gave me last week. At least I avoided the fever that he had, but I still feel lousy.
I’m working on my first ever job posting to backfill my position. This is the part of being the boss that scares me. What if I pick the wrong person??
Supper was leftover chickie cut up in BBQ sauce, corn muffins, and peas-n-carrots. Ice cream later. The dishwasher is washing dishes and daughter has taken Pug From The Pits Of Insanity for a walk. **FCD **is napping - he doesn’t feel well. I may have some medicinal wine or amaretto later to help me sleep. I think I’m out of melatonin and I forgot to get some this weekend.
I’ve been playing with various retirement calculators and the numbers are better than I’d originally expected. So I won’t have to work if I don’t want to, but if I want to do some part-time, that’ll just be fun money. It’s good to know that I don’t have to frantically seek employment after I retire.
And before someone asks why I don’t just stay put, our organization is about to undergo a major change and I’m not really liking what I’ve been hearing. The emphasis will be on other than the 2 fields I’ve worked, and our new bosses are known to be micromanagers. I don’t need that. If all goes well, I may get a job where my spousal unit works. We shall see. Anyway, barring something extreme, I’m done as of Dec 31!
I made the referral list for one of the positions I recently applied for. Of course, that doesn’t really mean anything. They could still opt not interview me. We’ll see what happens.
I’ve been feeling queasy all day. I don’t know what’s up with that. But, I was a good little employee and soldiered on.
It’s rainy, cold and blustery, with small shots of sun once in a great while. They’re saying we’ll have thunder and lightning come Wedsneday, and it will rain all week, right into the weekend. Ah, Wing…gotta love it.
Home from a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong Vestry meetin’. One hasn’t lived until one spends a couple of hours discussin’ septic tank/ grease trap backups, contracts for lawn maintenance, the upcomin’ 50th anniversary, property insurance and committee appointments.
Nav, GT, other Spanish speakers: what is a hip, slangy, idiomatic, yet mostly respectful term for an old man? Something along the lines of calling someone Gramps or Pops, but not necessarily a direct translation. A neighbor across the road is an old guy who doesn’t speak much English, and I’m 37 years from my last high school Spanish class, but we’ve taken a liking to each other nonetheless.
Found out my other neighbor has my same High German last name, and is a distant cousin. Small world, but I wouldn’t want to paint it.
Finally home. At the end of an already long day, I had to deliver tax returns. At least it was a nice neighborhood and I was dropping off, not picking up. Back when I worked in collections, I would have to pick up large checks in sketchy places.
Co-worker A was out sick with the flu today, so I assume she’ll be out the rest of the week. In fact, she’d better. Having the actual flu or being dead are the only valid reasons for missing work this week. Okay, you can stay home if you have Ebola. Co-worker B has some neurological thing going on and apparently, she could either drop dead or go blind any time in the next couple days. She’s working for now. She has multiple doctor appointments this week. In short, just when I thought this week couldn’t get any worse, it did. And it’s only Monday.
I don’t do hip except the ones where my legs meet my back, sorry. Slang will change by location, so again: do you know where is he from? Generally where I come from nicknames aren’t age related, but I’ve thought of something which may work. It is old-fashioned, but it’s so old-fashioned that it’s going to come back in fashion any day now: people used to refer to anybody a generation or more older than them but not related, and not a priest or nun, as “Uncle/Aunt”. So, if his name is Pablo you could ask him whether it’s ok for you to call him tío Pablo.
Old joke: in Galician villages, how do you know that someone is the priest’s child? A: that someone calls the priest “Uncle” instead of “Father”.
Good Morning Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN 'Tis 63 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 79. It does not look like the rain we had last night amounted to anything. I slept right through whatever happened.
Shadow yikes! Hope things get better at irk.
Lefty cool! Heh. Congrats on all the money raised. Da bear is impressed!
BBBobbio I must fight the battle of the lawn here at da cave. I need to mow but don’t want to mow. Actually, I’m kinda hopin’ to put it off ‘til next week so it’ll look good for Easter since I am hostin’ a gatherin’ for N.O.L. on Easter. So far the menu is ham. I should probably expand on that.
Ok, off in search of more caffiene and some brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.
Good morning all! We’re supposed to get stormy weather today, nothing going on right yet (thankfully!). I got an okie doke from my endocrinologist yesterday, and my A1C came out at 6.3 (up from 6.2 back in February), so everything seems (cautiously) optimistic. I’d even lost a few pounds … gad zooks! LOL
Glad to hear that things are looking up for the retirement picture, FCM! Hope everyone else is doing okay…I’m only very partially caffeinated as yet, so my brain is only functioning on a few cylinders! Rosie’s .sig to all who need it.
Yes, it can look like Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops.
We had a near ‘rainless storm’ yesterday, imparting only a tenth of an inch to our widespread drought. Thank goodness for automatic sprinklers. It’s still an enjoyable Spring, just one laced with apprehension.
Prayers and good thoughts headed out to your mom doggio.
I am at East Albeeny Medical Center to meet with some folk about their Medicare Part D (prescription drug) plans. I has intratoobz, so in between meetin’s I can surf! YAY!!!
I’m sending good thoughts to both you and your mother, Doggio.
Yay on finally being able to hit the big R button, FCM! I am officially jealous!
I have an interview at 10:00 tomorrow for that job that I made the short list for. Good thoughts would be appreciated!
We have to buy a new mower. Our lawn, what’s left of it in the back is growing fast! But, it’s been so wet and rainy we wouldn’t have been able to mow anyway. I think this weekend we’ll have to just bite the bullet, buy the mower, and get to crack-a-lackin’ on the lawn, regardless of the weather.
