About a year ago, the local big-haired lady local-interest reporter at the paper wrote an article bragging about how she batted her eyes at a trooper to get out of an expired registration ticket, then took her car in to a friend’s shop to get inspected. It failed, but her friend passed her anyway because Her Husband Is A Lawyer. I’m pretty sure, judging from the comments on that article, that someone reported her to the state.
Request for critique: this is the email template I’m sending out to respond to roommate ads. I think it’s kind of stilted. What think y’all?

In between the paragraphs I ask a couple of questions about the place and the arrangements, and I tweak each one slightly to the ads I’m responding to so they know I’m not a scammer.
Spaz I think it sounds good but I’ve never actually responded to a roommate ad so I don’t know if my opinion is any good. Frankly, you sound like the perfect roommate to me (either that or a deranged psychopath who comes off as the perfect roommate at first). 
I got a D- in Chemistry. WTF? I can’t imagine how she could have possibly thought I deserved that! I missed half the labs and missing only 2 is an immediate fail. I missed half the discussions and half the tests (including the final). There is no way at all that I earned a D- and I still have to take the class over so what was the point? She might have thought she was doing me a favor but no matter how bad my pseudotumor made my semester, I don’t want passing grades handed to me.
On the educational flip side, I have the honors and awards ceremony from Quinsig tomorrow. I’m going to wear a skirt and nylons and everything! My trial run of the outfit for Sweetie’s opinion on it resulted in all 3 dogs freaking out at the scary stranger in the room. Mayhaps I should stop dressing like a tomboy all the time.
My mom killed the Mother’s Day surprise. She’s so paranoid about forgetting something important that she keeps asking lots of questions and it got to the point that not answering her questions would have broken the surprise anyway so I just told her. She’s over the moon with excitement. Between the award ceremony, my graduation, and the opera, my ladylike outfit will get to be worn 3 whole times!!
Now I have to go buy some vinegar so I can deep clean the Bunn for Sweetie. He said the coffee has started tasting like Dunkin Donuts coffee and that means it’s time to clean the innards.
Ugh. All the ads on Craigslist today are stoners and damn hippies or people looking for someone “cool.” :rolleyes: I’ll hit up the IWannatomorrow.

The yard fairies didn’t show up, and I couldn’t be bothered. I’ll mow tomorrow. Tonight, I’m making a hat. The food bank that Mom’s AARP group supports also doles out hats and scarves in cold weather. They specifically requested hats for kids, so I found a few patterns and I’m trying them out. One I like, and I think I like the second one even better - we’ll see when I finish it. I want to find a couple more - maybe one with ear flaps.
So that will be my evening.

Welp, back to MST3K and Diablo. Exactly 1 week from the release of Diablo 3!! I’ve been waiting almost a decade for this game to come out. Who wants to bet that I get offered a job the day it comes out?
We finally grew enough “grass” to warrant mowing. Of course it has barely stopped raining since then. If it stops raining tomorrow I will also be out there mowing. The “grass” and dandylions are so high now that I can barely find my lilac twigs (which have sprouted new growth!) This is pretty bad considering that when I planted the lilac twigs, I removed all grass imposters from around them.
hmm, looks like my next opportunity to mow might be Friday. Thunderstorms tomorrow!! WooHoo! Weather.com changed their layout and I hate it!

Howdy Y’all! Busy day today. I had fun at the event. I was a judge for a senior citizen dance contest even. However, bein’ outside all day has aggravated my sinuses. The promised rain is finally startin’ so that may help. The ground beast and cabbage casserole I made for dindin was really good.
Read but not much retained. Thus, yays, boos, hugs, gropes, noogies, trouts, chitlins, wedgies, how you doin’s all around.

My creative juices are flowing again and I’ve been playing with some of my stories, along with making people in Poser (3d program, which means I just have to load a character and and adjust dials until they look like I want). I need to take them into Photoshop now.
I have to share a bit I wrote last November, that continues to crack me up. This is set in a ex-men (basically mutant) registration office. The vast majority of ex-men have a ‘mark’, usually - but not always - something like a birthmark, that can serve as identification.

I’m still alive. Currently in Austin, TX, staying with my best friend from high school - Rose the Great and Powerful. She was able to take two days off work, so we have been carousing and carrying on. Has been wunnerful.
We tried to see the bats leave Congress Street bridge last night, but the storm her husband promised would never reach us actually did. The bats stayed in, and we were drowned like rats. Did find a really great burger place, though.
I’ve spent a few days in Dallas and will return there tomorrow after seeing my best guy friend from high school. Plan on driving through some of the Hill Country instead of plowing straight through on I-35. Pretty country.
In the meantime, I’ve seen the Avengers twice and will be happy to see it a third time, given the chance. The younger brother has been very sweet and welcoming. The job market looks iffy.
I have, by turns, been thrilled, terrified, babbling with happiness, on the brink of a panic attack, smug, despairing, and thrilled/terrified all over again. I am husbanding my money, because what was plenty for a ten day trip is going to be very tight for a month’s worth of expenses, minimum.
I did a google search for Texas teachers job, just out of morbid curiosity, and it turns out that Mass Mutual is actively recruiting teachers to be, I guess, financial advisors. I’m curious, because I’ve been the person in my family to point out things like a) home ownership = equity; b) second mortgage has lower interest rates than credit cards (ie get the second mortgage and pay off the damn cards), and c) for Og’s sake, create a living trust so your property doesn’t have to go through probate court. So, I’m good at the conceptual stuff, not so good at the day to day nitty gritty.
But, I went ahead and got a manicure with a conservative color of nail polish Just In Case.
Evening! Busy days at work and dealing with health department red tape has wore me out.
