I’m not knocking Houston, but I got no peeps there. Fam and friends are primarily in Dallas, which is where I will most likely land. Financial situation doesn’t allow me to do anything but couch surf while I look for a job and the first couple of paychecks after landing one.
Good luck and hooray for peeps and fam:)
I found a Jeep soft top on Craigslist being sold by a lady who lives in in the town right next to where Sweetie works. Her Jeep is a '94 so it should use same top as our '89. She only wants $300! Just the frame would be more than that usually and that’s all we really need so we’ll get an extra top out of the deal! She’s bringing it by his work on Friday. I really hope it is the same style because our frame is all bent out of shape.
I had a job idea. I could deliver papers. If I can get a route that’s more walkable and pays about $100 per week, I’ll be happy. I don’t mind the early mornings but I hated the driving part the last time I delivered. I always felt like my entire pay was going for gas and new brakes. I’m going to call them tomorrow and see if they have any walking friendly routes.
or you could ride your bicycle like ten-year-olds do
I could but I don’t have a bicycle and I’m no 10-year-old. One thing Massachusetts has is a lot of really steep hills. I’d rather walk them (just a tip for you flatlanders, walking backwards up a steep hill is easier than walking up the right way). I figure that a summer of walking a paper route and then stopping at the gym on my way home would be a good way to lose the weight my neurologist wants me to lose.
Wondering how you were doing, phouka. Glad you’re having fun!
Lots,of good thoughts and prayers headed out for Tatersdad. Glad he’s somewhere they can make sure he’s getting the right care.
I was hoping you were being so quiet because you were in TX, Kanga. Sounds like it’s mostly been good for you to be there.
Maybe stick-figures and diagrams would work?
Exciting day today, ahead of two days off. Got a fair amount done at work, then came home for a haircut. Wondered why there were so many families hanging around the main drag, then remembered that the circus was coming. Yay!
First stop was home, though. Had to admire the electricians’ handiwork. I have new fans, a new porchlight, lots of new switches and outlets and other stuff I’m forgetting.
Then it was off to get a haircut. On the way back, I caught the elephants and ponies on parade and then, just after I’d gotten home, I looked out and saw a cop walking purposefully up the street. Next thing I saw was a cruiser and then a hand signal from the cop and then the cruiser sped up and pulled into a driveway while the cop ran to catch the person in question (presumably). I heard an indignant shout, so I’m guessing they wer e successful. It’ll be interesting to read the police reports in next week’s paper.
Anyway, here are a few pics from this afternoon: Fans and circus!
Hugs.

Nice!
Congrats on making it to TX, but inquiring minds want to know… did the pooch go with you?
Up, caffeianted, off to irk.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 66 Amurrkin with a predicted high of only 82 and a sixty percent chance of rain this afternoon and tonight. We shall see.
Taters prayers and healin’ vibes headed out to your dad.
kanga glad things are goin’ good in Texas. Good luck on the job hunt. Remember, if nothin’ else, you needed the break.
I’m spendin’ today catchin’ up on yet more paperirk. Ick! Also need to schedule some folks for testin’ which I hate doin’ but nonetheless must do. Le Sigh.
Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy demands to be fed. Then, alas and alack, irk purtification must commence.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Good morning! There shall be no mowing today - it rained overnight. OK, maybe if it dries quickly, but I’m not planning for that. I will run the vacuum over the areas I steam cleaned yesterday to suck up the excess cat hair (stoopit cats) then put the furniture back. I also have to empty the dishwasher and launder the afghans I’m taking to Mom’s on Firday. Oh, and I have to buy 8 quarts of strawberries for our jam/preserves making session. Beyond that, I’ll wing it.
I want to go to Lowe’s and get some pavers, but maybe that chore will wait till next week. Tomorrow, the chimney cleaners are coming (note to self - sweep the ashes out of the insert) and Firday, I’m leaving fairly early to go to Mom’s. I won’t get back till Saturday night. I’m already planning to be a sloth on Sunday.
**Kanga **- yay on a successful trip to TX! Best of luck with your job search and couch surfing!
gt - I think you have the same kitchen fan that we have! Amazing!! The elephant pics were cool - we never see stuff like that around here. Then again, we don’t see a lot of things in SoMD. We do see horses, tho, dragging the Amish all over the place!
Still not entirely awake - I’d love to go back to bed, but Taz won’t let me - he seems to think I exist to skritch him. Stoopit cat.
Happy Wednesday, all!
I once worked with a guy who could not find his own hardhat. The other guys had to hand it to him. Every hardhat was clearly (and actually illegally) labeled with the owner’s name in black marker.
He could not find the one that said, in the flat area at the front, “M.A.”. If several of us left our hardhats in a pile in the lunchroom, when it was time for him to go out again he’d walk to the pile, look confused and say “but where is mine?” - usually someone would have moved at the same time (he never worked alone, but with a partner) and would hand him his hat, but the one time this hadn’t happened, he grabbed one, looked at it, tossed it aside, grabbed another… until someone went there and got it sorted.
Officially he could read, but I’ve seen him hold a delivery note upside down and complain that “these foreigners write like shit”. When someone tried to take it off his hands and turn it right-side-up, he took offence at the “you’re holding it upside-down” and started loudly proclaiming that everybody was against him. Thankfully his partner could read upside-down…
Way to friggen early to be up, especially since I didn’t fall asleep until after 4am. Have to bring Sweetie to work and then come back and maybe if I’m lucky I’ll be back in bed by 9am.
Apparently the deep cleaning of the coffee pot resulted in very good coffee because sweetie drank the whole cup in under a minute while still lying in bed (laying in bed?)
I have that icky not enough sleep feeling in my stomach.
I love elephants. They’re my favorite wild animal but I’ve never been able to decide how I feel about them performing in circuses. I absolutely love when they do the parade down the street though. I used to always try to catch that when Ringling Bros. came to the Centrum in Worcester (now called the DCU center - stupid name - I miss the ugly old orange striped Centrum).
The carnival is in town! I’m not gonna go though. I’m just impressed that they fit it where they did.
Sweetie doesn’t seem to realize that the more he dawdles, the longer it is before I get back in bed. This is bordering on a hanging offence now. grumble…damn insomnia…grumble…damn people who don’t have it taking too long…grumble (that one was my stomach.
Blurf.
That is all.
**congo **- it would be lying - here’sa handy-dandy explanation!
I have had breakfast. It has rained some more. I’m still in my robe and slippers. Someone stole my motivation…
So to be clear, you are graduating?
CONGRATUFUCKINLATIONS!
I wouldn’t sweat the “I didn’t deserve to graduate” bullshit. My last semester I was positive I had failed Spanish III, a requirement. I moved back home from college and planned to take the course over again at the local branch of University of MD. Imagine my surprise when my diploma arrived in the mail.
The rest is history.
Keeping the professor informed and trying to work through issues has value too, and even in the ‘outside world’ people who try to do the right thing are more rare than those who don’t.
Just when you think someone is a friend, they turn on you.
Got a facebook message from an acquaintance last night expressing their dismay at the hicks (their words) that voted for the amendment and suggesting that we move to somewhere more tolerant of our lifestyle.
I just don’t know how to respond to that.
2gig THANKS!
These are two different schools though.
The one with the award ceremony, graduation is the one I technically graduated from in December. That’s the one with the high GPA, honor society, Who’s Who, etc. Frankly I’m astonished that I did so well at Quinsig because the major was Liberal Arts and to say that I have a firey hatred for Liberal Arts would be a massive understatement. All those classes in Psychology (barf), Sociology (barf), and Philosophy (kill me now!!) nearly drove me insane. It was very useful for getting my core classes out of the way before going to UConn but it was an incredibly dull 1.5 years.
The failed chemistry class is UConn - which I started attending in January.
Unfortunately, my major requires more chemistry than I had anticipated. If I want to get my BS before I’m 40, I’m going to have to pass this damn class with a much better grade than a D- soon because at this point, I’m in no way qualified to take the next level of chemistry yet. Even more unfortunately, chemistry is actually very relevant to my eventual career goal so I really do need to learn it.
The most annoying thing to deal with right now is that Chem 1127 has reserved seats (all of them) for new freshmen and people in Chemistry majors. Since I’m technically a Junior, even though this is my first year at UConn, and since my major isn’t Chemistry, I don’t qualify for one of the reserved seats. I can go to my dean and ask to be waitlisted, which doesn’t guarantee I’ll get a seat, or I can just wait until the first week of school and hope that a seat opens up before Add/Drop ends, which isn’t a guarantee. I think that anyone who is required to take chem 1127 for their major should be allowed into a reserved seat. Business majors don’t need that particular lab science so they don’t need to worry about getting into it but Pathobiology majors do and dammit I don’t think that a freshman business major should have first dibs on it just because they’re a freshman!
grrr…
You could but I’m replacing some of the chrome parts with wood and painting it to look like a cow. And my rather plain and holy license plate reads AM1SH.
And Capn, warn folks in terms of work safety. Normally unsafe links should be posted broken but because accidents happen a lot of folks won’t click until they know its clear.
Thanks! Had to get the Kow; the Sportie was just getting too small for two considering me and Her Ladyship both wear the same shirt size. Of course on her its all loose and baggy and all but ----------
