Well, we’d have to find something we all like to do.*
But seriously… if there are mini-dopes for the NW Philly Suburbs, why not Pittsburgh?
*Note: No implication of ‘orgy’ intended.

MAN am I late to this one! Anyhoo…
SWF, short red hair, 5’6", curvy. Currently needs coffee. I don’t have many geek creds, though I did work as a DBA for a while, and I read sci-fi and fantasy constantly (I think I have over 500 books in that genre alone, and this is AFTER the Great Purge last year). I live in DC, know quite a few of the MADs and HIGHLY recommend them as cool people and great fun - snap 'em up! They’re in short supply!
Here is a link to me at one of the MAD Dopefests (I’m the redhead in the blue sweater). Here I am!
OK, off to caffeinate.
Anna
This was all you needed to say to win me over. I definitely need to attend a MADoper if you’re going to be there, Anna. You look marvelous.
Why thank you, Frank #2! You have officially Made My Day - certificate in the mail, etc etc.
We do have fun at these shindigs - and you wouldn’t be the only PA Doper to travel for one. Come, and welcome!
Also, email/IM in profile. Off for more Sumatran Dark Roast.
Damn, if I’d known redheads were so popular, I would’ve started coloring my hair when I was 10.

Errrr…ummmm…yeah. I mean, color? Who on earth would do that??

Ya know, I have been intentionally NOT using my sig in this thread, because it just looks bad…and lookee there at who forgot to click the “hide sig” box last time.
:smack:
Googlism ain’t famous for its accuracy, thank goodness.
I doin’ just fine. How’s your hair doing nowadays?
It’s grown back to its normal length now, around 2". See, when I took the picture, I had gone for a haircut and trying to be the know-everything guy, I told her to use the trimmers with a #3 attachment. Smug in my knowledge, I sat back and waited as Asplundh* started up the trimmers. What I didn’t know is that there is a #3 plastic and there is a #3 metal attachment. She used the metal one and I ended up with the buzzcut in the picture. It’s only hair, right?
And speaking of hair, catsix, if you don’t go full out and dye your skin a pasty white and give yourself freckles, I’ll know the red isn’t natural. It’s okay though, as any color is good for me. Red hair gets you bonus points that can be cashed in for favors at a later date.
*: Asplundh is a tree trimming company that hacks and mutilates trees to get their branches away from phone & power lines.
I accept! I’ll even wear a pretty dress like Buttercup (not that you’ll be able to see it, mwahahaha). Email me!
Hi nyctea! I remember seeing you as birdgirl, actually. And Snowy Owls are quite beautiful birds. Better looking than finches, certainly - better looking than them Geospizas, at any rate
And hiya, too, so_da_ne!
SWM 47, 5’9" got some extra upholstery on the furniture. Brown eyes, brown w/gray hair in a ponytail. Firefighter/HazMat tech. Construction business owner. Adult evening ed instructor.
Geek qualifications: Old electronics lover-tube, reel to reel, quadraphonic. Rather than buying a new transformer, count the turns and rewind it. Builder of TVs when Heathkit was in business. Co holder of 3 patents. Rememberer of way too much data.
Spare time: Reading NTSB reports, NFPA and IAEI journal. Hanging out with my daughter, kitties on my back porch, and parrot. Dope, too.
Am I late?

Road trip up I-5 to the Bay Area?
Heh…
Believe me, spiralscratch, it’s quite tempting. Because in the scheme of things, while you’re not exactly around the corner, at least you BADopers are closer than, say, Philly, DC or Florida!
I thought it was supposed to be a small world, after all.
[sub]apologies in advance if you read that and start singing…[/sub]
If you don’t want to drive that far, there’s always some people closer. Trouble is, there’s nothing to do!
Eh… There’s a science museum? For anything else, we’ll have to create own own entertainment*.
: Orgy implied*.
**: No, not really.
Dye my skin pasty white?
I’m a geek. I haven’t seen the sun in at least five years.
Whoops, my previous entry posted on accident before finishing. Though I caught it. Now I feel kinda dumb. Who put the preview button so close to to the post button?
Anyways…
Me: I’m a regular guy with geek/nerd tendencies (e.g. I know a fair amount about Star Trek, but probably couldn’t hold my own at a convention). Computers are my chosen profession. Working in networking stuff mostly, but also dabbling in scripting, DB, and other fun OS stuff.
I love many types of music, especially anything “alternative” (oh, for a better adjective). I’m a die-hard shoegazer.
I thoroughly enjoy movies as well. I’m up for most any film that’s well-written and executed. Unfortunately I don’t go much anymore, as the friends don’t seem as interested as I. Going to a theatre alone to see a film just doesn’t feel right somehow.
As for TV, I’m currently near-addicted to 24, The Sopranos, and The Daily Show. I also dig The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, Chappelle’s Show, Arrested Development, and the Star Treks.
I’m a voracious reader with a short attention span for it, which basically means subscribing to a bunch of magazines of the scientific and computing variety, with some music mags thrown in. The books I do read tend to be technical volumes teaching me some computer/networking skill.
Thinking about getting back into photography after being out for a long time. Right now I’m a much better appreciator than creator. Hopefully once I can get a digital camera and not have to worry about developing costs that’ll change.
I absolutely love Bloom County and Outland. I’m digging Calvin & Hobbes more and more each day.
I’ve been into radio controlled cars for a while, and I’m currently learning how to crash R/C planes.
LIke the outdoors and wish I spent more time there.
I’m mostly liberal, agnostic, and healthily cynical. I’m honest, loyal, and open-minded. I’m fairly laid-back and easy-going. I have a dry, sarcastic, slightly dark sense of humor.
Seeking: Someone to have have fun and enjoy life with. Another friend. A chat buddy. I’m open.
Dammit, geography strikes again! Ah, well…
We could meet up halfway. Bakersfield is simply beautiful this time of year. Heh.
A single, interesting woman in the Bay Area? I thought those were all extinct.
clears throat
How you doin’?
[sub]And I thought I’d never say that.[/sub]
Well, we could always meet in the middle in Greene County and umm…tip cows or something
Waynesburg would be an orgy of fun!!!
Seriously, I’m definitely game for something in the future!
