Single Doper and Nerd Hookup Thread and Cotillion

I am going to make a sign one day that says ‘Will relocate for job.’

Well, you just made my day
How you doin’?

This is me

Hey ataraxy22 I live very close to Saltspring. You should have waited until after this thread to head this way!

purplycow! You are a cutie!

I didn’t give any nerd creds yet… so here they come…
It makes my day that it makes your day… that… awww, shucks! :o (<-- that is supposed to be an “embarrassed” smiley… a simple blush would’ve worked better)

Friends… it gets absolutely no nerdier than that.

I guess I should say something about me… I am 35, am an online banking telephone support guy… read voraciously, almost anything with print on it… but if I like the book I will re-read it until it falls apart… I have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings at least once a year since I was about 7, for instance… Love movies, and computers (playing a lot of *City of Heroes * these days). I play just about any stringed instrument save the violin, and I’ll probably play it one day… have played bass and guitar in a working bands, and may do so again… Love to sing… I sing in my church choir (bass, and/or baritone)… write songs and poetry when the muse pops me upside the head, love to travel but don’t get to do it enough (work and what-not)… enough about me!

Weather.com says temps in the mid to high 90’s and scatterred thunderstorms… sounds like Alabama summers… more rain for you guys though, I would imagine… Tell me about the whole Malaysia atmosphere… the vibe, as it were…

Sad about all you ladies leaving the South… You probably would’ve stayed had known about me… but ALAS! (quick note: when I say something that egotistical I am generally being facetious and/or sarcastic… generally. Just wanted to make that clear… my humour sometimes has trouble translating into print unless you know I’m not a jerk… and I’m not. Usually, A jerk… generally speaking)

Maybe you could convince a Yankee to relocate?

You guys down there, you don’t still lynch Yankees do you?

heh heh… it has been almost… let’s see… hmmm… a week since I lynched a yankee! Nah! My Daddy used to tell me a yankee was a northerner and damn yankee was a northerner that came to the south… and stayed. Now, like most Southern good ol’ boys, I think my Daddy is a pretty bright guy… but unlike the stereotypical good ol’ boy I have a bit of knowledge of the world outside my beloved South… and I tend to disagree with that statement… A yankee that comes to Alabama is only showing good sense!

There’s Baltimore, which combines the hospitality of the North, with the industrial capacity of the South.

And, no lynchings!

And perhaps my yankee accent would make me sound… foreign!

I was in the minute you said ‘sushi’.

Yeah, it’s really hot here. And terribly humid! People here tend to get quite attached to air-conditioning, as can be seen from the throng of people in shopping malls and other air-conditioned places during the weekends.

Malaysia … pretty good mix of everything. There are cosmopolitan and exciting bits, and there are casual and laidback bits, depending on where you go. Wide variety of cultures (which translates into many national holidays!), but everyone loves food (24-hour eateries are everywhere!). Also, very good for tourists because everything’s cheap for people holding USD/GBP/euros etc.

Tell that to my great-great-great-great grandfather Ruel Chauncey Rogers. He’s still down there, far as I know. As is his son, William Henry Harrison Rogers. This is as far south as I go.

OK, it was Louisiana and Georgia, but still.

well… everybody has to come from somewhere… it’s just that the very smart, the very lucky, and the very blessed (or some combination of the afore-mentioned) wind up somewhere in the South…

I don’t know how we Southerner compete with northern hospitality… but y’all come on down, we’ll have lemonade and fresh home-made peach (none of that canned peaches crap! the best peaches in the WORLD are grown less than 10 miles from my Momma’s house) cobbler… adn we’ll sit out on the porch and discuss it.

Which seems to be conspiring to keep me off the internet lately, but not actually with anything important.

I’m beginning to think we see things with a similar perspective.

Sounds like you do great work, and she was trying to take some credit. Good on ya for calling her on it.

Well, I’m just zis guy, you know?

I don’t know, I am kinda boring I guess. I do network/PC support. Live in the middle of nowhere. Due to that, I have no life. (Well, drinking season…err softball season has started, so at least I move a couple times a week now) Single, never married, no kids, but a couple of insane cats that I inherited(long story). BA in Management Information Systems. I dunno, I never know what to say about me.

So how about you? You said you have a degree in English, I considered that at one time, but that was because I really just wanted someone to pay me to sit around and read what I wanted to, and I was pretty sure that wasn’t how it worked. As for comic books, I never got into that particular vice, although I have a good friend who has a collection that numbers in the thousands of comics, including some valuable first issues, and I’ve picked up a bit of knowledge from him by osmosis.

(my email is bdj_1969@yahoo.com, drop me an email, when I get my internet access back I’ll see it quicker, well that and I am more comfortable answering email at work than posting  )

Time for a bit of a bump… there have got to be more single geek-types out there.

Got an extra chair on the porch? A great way to rock and roll.

Age 45
5’10" 150 lb. blonde haired green eyes glasses wearing female.
Widow with 11 year old son (no family or relatives)

Cleveland Ohio area, though would love to relocate to a warmer state.
Looking for someone like me: a christian, yet liberal.
Conservative Republicans need not apply.

Also must be heterosexual, drug free, and a nice kind loyal guy.
Looks unimportant.

Did I kill this thread?

No, you didn’t kill it… it’s been waning for a while now. All use geeks have made our grandiose plans for meet-ups that, sadly, we’ll never follow through with because there’s an episode of Star Trek on that evening that we’ve only seen nine times.

Oh, what the heck.

SWM, 41, 5’9", about 260 lbs but working on getting it down, dark hair, grey-green eyes, most of own teeth, silly SOH, UK based, non-smoker.

Nerd qualifications: won an XBox by passing Microsoft technical exams. Professional web developer (on a graduate trainee’s salary, but never mind that.) Encyclopaedic knowledge and huge collection of old SF shows on TV. Science fiction and fantasy novels: own - hundreds, written - 3, published - 0.

Practising Christian, but open-minded. Politics: so far left, you can’t see them from America.

WLTM … err. Single, female, with a pulse.

Oh, what the heck.

SJF, 30, total geek. Likes bugs (well, I’m in an entomology program, so that kind of makes sense), learning about other living things, hiking, reading, and cooking. I want to learn to scuba and to hangglide! I love to travel (I’m heading for Brazil in just a few weeks. I’ll be spending the summer there, which I still can’t quite believe!) and to learn about different cultures, cuisines, and languages. I also love to check out foreign and independant films.

Despite my nerdliness, I’m not too harsh on the eyes. I’m about 5’5", approx 115-120 lbs (depending on time of the year–I tend to be heavier in winter and lighter in summer.) Short, very curly brown hair (I’ve decided to grow it out long, but it hasn’t even gotten down to my shoulders yet), brown almond-shaped eyes framed by small, tortoiseshell-rimmed glasses.

ISO a single or divorced guy who doesn’t smoke, doesn’t feel the need to go out drinking every weekend, and likes to discuss Life, the Universe, and Everything. Sarcastic sense of humor, Firesign Theatre fan a plus.

Political conservatives need not apply.
