So I might be pregnant

Pregnancy tests take about 2-5 minutes to do. If you go to a clinic and they won’t give you your results for 30-45 minutes, it may be so they can persuade you to watch anti-abortion videos or see other anti-abortion propaganda. Some of them will push Christian propaganda on you. If you feel a need for any kind of Christian pastoral counseling, you can get it separately from medical services. A priest or pastor at a church should be willing to help you with that. There’s no need to get that at the clinic.

There is no link between abortion and breast cancer. Carrying a pregnancy to term is more dangerous than having a legal abortion. A legal abortion is not likely to cause future infertility. There is no link between having an abortion and future mental health problems. Nobody knows whether or not having an abortion will damage your relationship with God. Any clinic that tells you something different from any of these may have their own agenda.

If a clinic won’t tell you, when you call them, whether or not they provide abortions or referrals for abortions, they probably don’t do those things. Find a different clinic.

If you are pregnant, after you decide what to do about it, you will have no way of knowing how happy you would or wouldn’t be if you had made a different decision. This is true of lots of major life choices. I might think I would have been happier if I had gone to a different grad school, but I have no way of knowing that. Maybe I would have been, maybe I wouldn’t. You can’t know how things would have turned out if you had made a different decision, and neither can anybody else. If you have an abortion, you won’t know how happy you might have been if you had had the baby. But the same is true if you have a baby- you won’t know how happy you might have been if you hadn’t had the baby.

There is no choice you can make, about pretty much anything, that comes with a guarantee that you won’t regret it later on. Life just does not work that way.

If you’re in the US, you should be able to get a home pregnancy test at any pharmacy (the CVS near me has them near the condoms), and in some grocery stores. Dollar Tree has them for $1. You shouldn’t need to go to a clinic to take a pregnancy test because it’s difficult to get a home pregnancy test. It isn’t.

I would like to address this because it has come up with others who had abortions that I have worked with.

There is nothing you can ever do to stop God from loving you. God’s Love is always there for you, you never have to fear it will be removed.

Please know that a pregnancy test can often read a false negative, especially early in the pregnancy. They are also very unlikely to give a false positive. My wife and I know this from experience, and the 5 year old daughter we now have. Good luck!

Buy 3 pregnancy tests at the dollar store then, and use all of them.

Nothing to add but good thoughts for you.

Good luck Stauderhorse. I hope it’s a false alarm, but either way try and keep yourself strong and level.

I took a pregnancy test today (my boyfriend was out of town this weekend and I wanted to wait until he was here). And…it was negative! I know it’s not conclusive, but it’s a pretty good sign. I’m going to the doctor in a couple of days to make absolutely sure and to figure out why my period is so delayed. Until then, huzzah!

Very happy for you!! I sure wish I’d had this kind of venting opportunity/place of support/internet information during the couple times I had this worry, and I’m very glad that you do.

I’m very happy for you!

I’m so glad!

Good deal! Hooray!

I’m so relieved for you!

Yay!

Whew!

Next time- two condoms!

Congratulations!

That actually makes them more likely to break than just using one.

Now, if you were to use a condom and the pill, that would be another story.
