Sparklers, bottle rockets, and the MMP

Slept in. Until 9AM. Crazy.

Walked the dog and had breakfast. I don’t plan to much of anything today. I am in the middle of a good book so I’ll probably finish it. This is the third book I’ve read in a little over a week. We may go watch the fireworks later and will grill up something. Hubby is cleaning the yard and helping new neighbors haul a bunch of yard crap to the dump today.

Y’all have a happy 4th.

We went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, then to WalMart for a few items. **FCD **is laying out ideas for his gas tank artwork. I’m thinking about maybe making peach jam today… or tomorrow. Maybe I’ll just prep the peaches today.

It’s still overcast, breezy, and cool, but from the weather radar, it appears we won’t be getting any rain, dagnabbit! Stoopit hurricane! I’ve got the house open - we’ll see how long that lasts. Depends on whether the sun comes out, I guess.

Happy 4th of July!

And Happy Good Riddance, Bloody Colonials Day! to Nut and Boofae:smiley:
I’m up and caffeinated. It’s nice and sunny today.

Good luck with the van search, Nut.

Spidey, da Bear owns a cee-mint pond, and a smoker. if he’s picking stuff up at :eek:Wally-World:eek:, it would be fixins for smoked, salted daid frog[Jose Jalapeno] on a steek[/Jose Jalapeno]

MMMMMMMM… daid frawg on a stick!

However today’s main features are daid pig and daid chikin.

Iceage has been acheived. I went over to the church house and filled up three biiiiiiiiiiiig coolers. Didn’t even make a dent in Hoshi’s icemakin’ skillz. Anywho, beer is a’ chillin’, watermelons are a chillin’, some ice got bagged up and put in da freezer for tomorrow, and there’s still plenty of ice for anymore ice needs today. I think someone’s bringin’ Jell-O shooters and a couple other folks are bringin’ beerverages. There was a mention of somebody bringin’ margarita fixin’s so there’s ice for that as well. Da bear, however, is stickin’ with beerverages for the day.

Ribs and chikin’ are in the slow cookers. The rest of the food will be arrivin’ as folks start to arrive. Munchies are at the ready with more comin’. Shapin’ up to be a festive Fourth out at the cee-mint pond!

ETA: Revellers have started to arrive!

It’s the first full day of my vacation. I hope I can have some adventures.

Happy Independence Day!

We’re going to our friends’ house in a few hours to hang out, but will be back home before the fireworks go insane around here. Brandi, my lab mix, HAAAAAAAAAATES fireworks, so we have to be home to keep her calm.

Another of our friends called us last night. She started off the conversation with, “Now, don’t be offended, PLEASE!” We didn’t know what was up with that, but it turns out it was a good conversation. She wants to give my son a 1000 bucks so he has extra money while in Paris, France. She knows we have a very hard time accepting any money or expensive gifts from her, but we all know she has a lot of money and no family to spend it on. Since it was for our son, we accepted. As soon as we get the money, we’ll deposit it in his account.

I texted my son and told him, and he was very thankful and happy about it. He hasn’t had to use any of his own money yet, as he still has nearly 100 of the Euros that I procured for him before he left.

Stay safe, 2gig.

Damn nice of your friend Taters!

Taters what a super friend! Wow!

Ok, it’s cee-mint pond time!

Happy Independence Day!
Taters, your friend sounds very generous. I hope your son enjoys what she has given him.

**Taters **- good for you for accepting your friend’s offer. We’ve never been able to be that generous, but a couple of times, we brought our nephew to stay with us on our dime so he’d have a vacation and his folks would have a break. All it cost them we gas to get the boy to the airport and we covered the rest. Maybe that’s the thing - it’s easy to accept on behalf of one’s kid!

Happy Independence Day! And Happy July 4th for you non-'Murrcans.

So far, it’s been a relaxing day, sort of. The sprog and I made breffest (a tasty repast of strawberry Eggo waffles, turkey bacon, and fruit-on-a-stick. Food always tastes better when it’s on a stick!)

Not much planned except watching the World Cup. FIFA (I think) is observing Anti-Discrimination Day. Because if there are two countries that need that, it’s France and Germany. In between games, just cleaning house. We’re adopting a new kitten soon and there may be a home visit involved. I swear, it’s just like adopting a human baby.

Tomorrow is the big Hamfest and section convention for the Amateur Radio Relay League. Lots of meetings and such, and a flea market for radio stuff. I should be able to get a nice-ish radio for not much money, then save my pennies for the spiffy stuff.

Taters, that’s awesome. Your son will be able to tour Yurp in style!

**Robyn **- We looked into adopting a Siamese kitten once, and we gave up on it because they were just bat-crap crazy about vet statements and visits and all that. Instead, I went to an adoption day at Petco and came home with a big fluff-ball from a rescue group. I had to fill out some paperwork and give them a check, but that was pretty much it. I understand the concern about placing a pet in a good home, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s a pet and as long as the same people don’t show up every single time to get yet another critter… [/soapbox]

I just finished chopping up peaches for jam. Out of five gigantic peaches, I had maybe a dozen slices left - silly me, I thought there’d be enough left over to make a pie or a cobbler. They’re not local peaches - those haven’t come in yet, but they smelled good and they were purty. And tomorrow, they’ll be jam Yum!

**FCD **is working on his gas tank - I’ll be taking pics to document his progress. I think his pirate bike will be really cool!

The sun is out, but it’s breezy and still cool enough to have the house open - humidity has really dropped! It’s supposed to be cool tomorrow morning, so I’ll be mowing the ditch then. Once the mowing is done, the jammin’ will begin!

Cool!

LOL! Guess it’s a perspective thing. (This from a colonial.)

Slept in (with amazingly little hassle from the Princess about it), currently doing online stuff while DH is still asleep. Not sure what the game plan is for the rest of the day, but it probably involves staying in this afternoon, highs being projected for the upper 90s and all that (it’s currently 78). Would be nice if we could average the weather among MMPers, wouldn’t it?

I cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed the apartment, and swpt the porch and from sidewalk. I’m gonna run to the grocery store for some burger fizins.

The more specialized the Rescue Group, the weirder they are about adopting. That’s why I go to the County pound. Pay $114, promise not to fight it or eat it, and it’s yours.

Now I have Bob Marley stuck in my head.

That’s cool of your friend, Taters.

Me too. A Bob Marley ear worm. But I do like reggae music.

Cracker Barrel & Wally World in one trip?
Please tell me you didn’t stand out by doing something silly like getting dressed first & that you wore your jammies out! :stuck_out_tongue:

Sure, I’d wrassle with OBL, but that was in fun. I’ve never, ever heard of someone fighting their pet.

[Emily Litella]Oh, that’s very different…nevermind[/EL]
Off to the BBQ; Happy 4th &/or Good Riddance Day!

Well, since I don’t wear jammies, yes, I showered and got dressed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ravioli for supper. That pretty much sums up my evening.

Yeah, we’re not adopting a purebred rescue. I just had to fill out an application. The rescue called the vet to make sure Target is up-to-date on her shots (she is) and spayed (she is). They also called two of my friends to make sure that I’m not a horrible person, and I had to do a phone interview. The next step is go through an integration process that’ll take a couple of weeks. This is only an issue since we have an existing cat; they don’t want to let us take a kitten home only to find out that they don’t get along or that I don’t know how to properly introduce cats. (I do.)

We’re pretty much to the point where we can pick out the kitten, since I passed the background check and all that. They have some really nice ginger-and-white male (well, ex-male since they’ve been neutered) kittens right now. We’re going with a kitten because Target is really, really active and would drive an older, less-active cat nuts, and also because it’s usually easier to integrate a kitten into the family.

And since I’ve never properly introduced Target to y’all, here is a recent picture. Target!

Hello Mumpers. Off thurs and fri cuz of 9/80. Nice break. We drove in a small town parade Tis morning. Kinda fun, something different.
