Very pretty girl. Hope she can cope with a sibling.
:dubious:
What a beautiful day it is turning out to be.
It’s not too hot 78 degrees, sunny, low humidity and very breezy.
It’s supposed to get down to 58 overnight, perfect sleeping weather.
**sari **- same lovely weather here and I’m definitely looking forward to the cool night. I’m even planning to get up and mow the ditch in the morning since it’ll be so cool. The best part is definitely the low humidity.
Ogbligatroy durrkene psot. Been a great afternoon out by the cee-mint pond! Good company. Good food. Good adult beverages. BBQ dindin has been consumed. Those who did not partake (a whole lot) of adult beverages have departed. Those who have, are spread out throughout da cave. Merriment continues. Fine by me as long as it’s understood no drivin’ shall ensue. Beds, a futon, sofas, and sleepin’ bags are available.
Hope all the Amurrkin Mumpers have had a happy Independence Day. Hope everyone else has had a good Firday.
You sleep buck nekkid? Think of the critters!
Tonight’s dinner shall be cheeseburgers with poblano pico de gallo, roasted potatoes, and steamed broccoli with chipolte cheese sauce. Funny, no one has started shooting off ordnance yet. :dubious:
Pretty kitty, Rockin’.
Doggio tell me about Raleigh
How far are you from the ocean, how far from the mountains?
What is crime like in that area?
I’m very close to saying seeya to Hagerstown and MD.
So tell me about Raleigh.
Gonna go recline and knit. MWAH!
62 will be the low here.
Nice cuddling and sleeping weather, if the damn fireworks will let us.
:dubious:
2 hours to the ocean, 4 hours to the mountains. Not a lot of crime(apart from some bad sections., like every city)
Thank you
A friend suggested Raleigh.
I doubt I’ll go that far but damn I’m about ready to go anywhere I can to get away from here.
Better than doing 25 to life for making HFH sausage. That would be the wurst.
My meat pun killed the MMP. I’m Mortadella-fied.
Lots of noise outside, including some rather illegal fireworks (if I understand correctly, home fireworks that leave the ground under their own power are prohibited in California).
If the security guard who was in front of the nearby grocery store knew what he was talking about, there’s also been some gunfire.
To be frank, I never thought my puns would scare all y’all off. Good night, then!
Nettie, no happy fire here tonight.
That would be cruel.
Who would I feed it to?
It’s a mere 57° and amazing this morning!! It’ll almost be a pleasure to mow! Then I can make peach jam without making the kitchen all hot and steamy. I may even bake a cake. Apparently cooler weather makes me all domestical - who knew???
**sari **- you had talked about WV at one point - is that still a consideration? What about the northern neck of VA - King George, Westmoreland, Caroline, North Umberland? Or you make your son get a job that allows him to buy you the house across from me!
Onward into the day. Happy Saturday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 92 for the day. Not too shabby. Today shall be another day of relaxatin’ at the cee-mint pond.
Some of the overnight guests have departed. A couple others are still asleep. Hey at least I can wander through the livin’ room without steppin’ over a sleepin’ body so there’s that. I claimed the study for myself last night just so’s I could hole up in it and post on teh intartoobz and such.
Ok, I need more caffiene and should consider sustenance for rumbly tummy. Then we shall see what the mornin’ holds as others start to stir at some point.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Whew, I’m alive enough to type again.
So on Thursday when the order was given to go help a sister station, I was told to drive in to work, load into the older sat truck and head to Norfolk. That was updated to Outer Banks when I arrived a the station.
In the best of days it’s a 5 hour trip. With traffic it was eight. Arriving around 7:30 we found our hotel rooms had been booked by others, and few were left. After getting that worked out we settled in & crashed quick because we were up at 2am and out the door at 2:30.
By then the wind was a steady 35 with higher gusts, blowing sand & spray. We checked out of the hotel at 2:30 having spent $75 / hr to nap, and went to work. We drove about 15 minutes up to Kitty Hawk, seeing little damage, and found a sheltered spot to set up. That’s the trick of operating a satellite truck in a storm: park behind a building to keep the wind off the dish. Trucks have been known to lose dishes.
I fire up the truck, locate the satellite & start transmitting. Then I begin prepping gear for the shot. In a storm you have to at least double-wrap the camera, which makes it hard to operate the controls in the storm. I did that and called the station we were supposed to be working for to make sure they saw us. They didn’t; an issue with the downlink settings. I gave him my numbers and returned to setting up. A few minutes later I called my station and asked what they saw - I was warned I was taking ‘hits’ in my audio, something was shorting out.
I began to troubleshoot and after a long process it was obvious the problem was likely in the transmitter on the dish itself, probably salt water got into it from the storm. I worked on the issue for 45 minutes before giving up.
So then it was Plan B, “Looklives”: tape and feed (via computer) vignettes quickly to give the appearance of live shots. The disadvantage was that the shots lack the interaction of a true live shot, the advantage was you are a lot more free to roam and do interesting things. We did 8 or so shots as dawn broke, moving around to better spots to feed them back.
Around 7am we met another crew from the other station that had a ‘backpack live unit’ a small live transmission unit that uses cell phone cards to send a signal. We did two real live shots, then finished up shooting traditional news reports (packages), completing our day by 9:30am.
Overall the storm was “Much wind and fury, signifying nothing” (obscure quote). We had an easy drive back (well easy was a mixed term, a Sprinter sate truck is a beast to drive in the wind), though when we got to DC it was tough to drive through because of the July 4th road closures. I spent an hour cleaning out the van as best I could, then drove home, arriving 30 hours and 650 miles later. I hit the sack at 5pm yesterday and other than a brief time awake around midnight, just woke up.
Thanks to all who had a concern, I was actually worried for awhile when I woke up Friday morning. I think it would have been a lot worse if the tide had not been low, and the course of the hurricane was further west then they predicted, which lowered the storm surge. It’s frustrating to go through all that trouble only to have the equipment fail, but we got stories on the air & we got home safe, the latter of which makes me happy.
Have a good weekend everyone!
The lawn is mowed, I’m showered, I’ve got a load of towels in the washer, and **FCD **is replacing the icemaker auger. Good times! When the towels are on the line and he’s done playing with the ice bin, I’ll start making the jam. The peaches are out coming to room temp, and I need to get the sugar measured into a bowl and start the big pot o’ water to boiling. The actual making of the jam is easy, but the prep work is a pain. However, the better prepped, the easier it all goes.
**tugig **- glad you got back alive - I was concerned about you. Such an exciting life…
