Sparklers, bottle rockets, and the MMP

And as I wait for cake time, I think I’ll recline. MWAH!

My ears are lowered, Gordie has a new pirate collar and the Cone Of Shame. Laundry is away. And I still have 1 more day off.

sari, I guess the “My son doesn’t talk to you because you’re a complete tool” speech is out.

Enjoy the brunch, swampy!

I drove my car to the local grocery store today. Considering that I’m still new to driving, I guess it was some sort of accomplishment.

What else did I do today? Tried to clean the kitchen floor, and ate too much chocolate.

Yay for drivin’ Midget! However, I cannot grasp the concept of “ate too much chocolate.” How is such a thing possible?

So tahrd! So is OYKW. Matter of fact we shall shortly retire to the budoir to watch teevee until sleepy time. Sleep time will very likely come real early, especially for da bear. YAWN

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Doggio, why does Gordie have the “cone of shame?” He’s okay, isn’t he?!

We had a lot of fireworks going off outside last night, until after midnight. I don’t know how the pets in our complex fared; we have a lot of them here and many are chihuahuas, believe it or not. I didn’t hear any barking or howling last night. The fireworks startle me,so I’m sympathetic to the effect they have on dogs and cats. :frowning: Fortunately for me, I slept through much of the noise somehow! It amazes me, though, that they sell fireworks and people set them off, as dry as it is/has been here. I thought most of them were illegal or banned (or both) and in fact I saw a post on facebook earlier that said the APD had over a thousand calls on illegal fireworks last night.

Glad you made it home safely, tugig; my cousin in Suffolk said they made out okay there, not even much rain or winds. Still, though, it is only the beginning of hurricane season.

I have a nurse from the wound care center coming on Monday (a home health care visit, yay!), for the sores on my legs. I hope they are able to help them clear up, I can’t go in the pool with the sores, unfortunately, and I very much want to get back to the water walking. The sores come and go, btw. Since I’m diabetic, that’s why they take so long in healing. So keep me in your thoughts, please. Thanks!

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday night. I think I’ll be watching whatever picture Svengoolie has on tonight.

Physically, he’s fine ,just having one of his chewing on himself phases. Mentally, well…
And hope the wound care nurse fixes you up quick.

Well, I am up this early on a Sunday morning because I’m gonna deheathenate today.

Rosie, :goose:

Higgs actually slept in this morning! I saw the clock at 6 and figured I’d be hearing her any time. Next thing I know, it’s nearly 6:30 and she’s still not fussing. I was a bit worried - it’s so unlike her! But she’s fine, fed, and being her pesky self.

I had to dump a bunch of water on the planters on the back porch - the smallest one was full of wilted petunias - hope I caught it in time! Each pot got better than a half gallon of water. I should probably water the house plants also.

And I’m going to make a calendar for **FCD **for while I’m gone, listing where we are each day, plus including reminders of things like “check that the critters have fresh water” and “water my plants” and “I’ll be home tomorrow - send your floozies away!!” Watering plants isn’t on his radar ever, nor is checking the cats’ kibble feeder level. I need to make sure he’s got supplies of stuff like critter food and cat litter - he can deal with his own groceries, I think. Don’t get me wrong - he’s not helpless, he just doesn’t think about doing the things that I normally do since they’re my chores.

Another cool and sleepable night, but the heat is coming back, dammit. 95° by Tuesday. :frowning: We’ll probably have to close up today since we’re promised mid 80s this afternoon. Alas.

No idea what we’ll do today. **FCD **will probably start painting his fenders, and I should have some studio time. Maybe I’ll take him out for breakfast. Because I’m nice, dammit!

Happy Sunday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 94 for the day. Typical Summer day in south Jawja.

BBBobbio sure you remember how to deheathenate Luterun style? I’ve had practice and can give ya a few pointers. :stuck_out_tongue: However, I shall deheathenate Whiskypalian style this mornin’.

Herbs hope the laig sores clear up soonest.

Ok, that’s all I got. I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, purtification for deheathenization, followed by N.O.L. at the good seafood place (YAY!) shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Happy Sunday!

Last night was nice and cool once I could open my window. The neighbors were setting off fireworks last night. The noise was bad enough but when the smoke and fumes started coming in my window I had to close up.,
I’ll enjoy the open window while I can, the temps are going up.

It’s been so long since I have deheathenated, I probably shouldn’t go into a church without wearing a hardhat and carrying a lightning rod.

I hope the sores heal soon Herbs.

Doggio Sah-dog used to chew himself. His tail still has a hairless strip where the hair never grew back. I took him off dog food with beef and that helped. Putting him on a grain free food and adding plain yogurt to his food has helped with the chronic ear infections. That and flushing his ear everyday with peroxide.
I had a dog who would chew herself raw every summer and Bag Balm worked wonders on her. That’s messy in the house though.

Been having trouble breathing lately. Damn asthma. Wish I hadn’t had parents who smoked. :frowning: I’m probably stuck with lung troubles for the rest of my life.

On the plus side, I’m making progress with a music arrangement.

We had a nice breakfast in Leonardtown. I’m pretty sure we count as regulars at the cafe, since most of the servers know to bring us a couple of Diet Cokes. I had a cheese omelet with Cheddar - yum!

Not sure what the day will hold - we shall see, shan’t we?

Mor… uh… afternoon all!

Irk was interestin’ last night- the guy I was supposed to be on with didn’t show up. T’was a corporate party with a £2000 bar tab with about 60 of ‘em drinkin’ it, and I was supposed to be both keeping an eye on them in the venue and on the door. This meant lots of very drnuk people (a few of whom insisted on only speaking to me in Welsh, of which I know maybe 20 words).

The boss did manage to get someone else down after a few hours, luckily, but it was over halfway through the night…

Mind you, it could have been a lot worse; it was carnival in town yesterday, and that gets messy.

I suspect there will be very little irk this week, so I shall be mostly trying to get the allotment in order before I’m away to Ireland.

Happy Sunday all!

I did pretty good getting deheathenated, ThankYewVeryMuch. Up, stand, sing, down, repeat kinda whipped my fanny, though.

Thanks for the kind remarks everyone, and apologies for the excessive tales. Once I get on a roll, it’s hard to stop - like this one:

Soon after I wrote yesterday’s epic tale I packed the truck full of tools and drove up to the home of my good friend’s parents. They are elderly, and not in the best of health, though they did manage to get away for a vacation last week (where to? The Outer Banks - I drove right by their place at 3am Friday morning!)

Yesterday our job was to replace the front steps to the home. The old prefab concrete steps had completely crumbled away, though the landing was still intact. Last week we demolished the old concrete steps, this week we went to the Home Despot and purchase $180 of lumber and I created a 5 step staircase to replace the old one.

Staircases are pretty hard to get right. A staircase with the most natural gait has a combined tread and rise of 17.5". For example, many homes use a 11" tread and 6.5" rise between steps. You may notice steps with shallower rises, say 3" have 14.5" wide steps to keep the flow natural. So the real challenge is to create steps that are even and don’t have any mismatched heights which might cause someone to stumble, a bad thing for anyone, horible for an elderly person.

We arrived around 10am and finished around 7pm. We’ll head back in a few weeks to paint the steps & landing with a good non-slip paint. I am happy to say the steps have a real natural feel to them, and are very solid. I ran my 230lb frame up and down several times and they sounded and felt like a rock.

My friend apologized for having me spend a day on the project; I had to tell him I was really having a lot of fun: it’s been ages since I was challenged like this to build something that took planning and skill, plus frankly these people have been surrogate parents to me since I was a teen. It was important to do something for them.

Today we’ll try a little vehicle maintenance for his truck & mine (serpentine belt replacements).

I got my drivers license the moment I turned 16. My stepson from the first marriage seemed quite reluctant to get his; took a lot of pushing. My son turns 16 this September and appears interested in getting his soon, and does my daughter who is 15 months younger.

I suspect the ease with which people communicate via technology has reduced dependence upon driving.

Ah well, happy Sunday everyone!

Up and caffeinated. Gonna clean the bathroom today. Cone dog is snoozing.

sari, Gordie does this every few years. A couple of weeks of coning makes him quit. Besides, he got a pine cone stuck on his cone last night. It’s worth it just for that.

It’s a good thing I read that twice because the first time through I didn’t read it as he got a pine cone stuck on his cone.

I need to get busy doing something. I think irk first, then some more straightening and I may even cook something today.

OYKW did not want to go deheathenate this mornin’ so I made the executive decision to deheathenate Luterun style. Thus, I am all deheathenated and at da cave. OYKW is purtifyin’ as I post. Got a little while before we head out to meet MOG for N.O.L. I texted her to let her know of my early deheathenization lest she show up for later deheathenization and wonder where the heck we are. She texted me that she has also just arisen and has chosen to forego deheathenization.

This makes me the only non-heathen goin’ to N.O.L.

Good morning, y’all!

Just finished a tasty breffest of eggs scrambled with Vidalia onion (i.e., the best thing to come out of Georgia since peanut butter) and light cheese; turkey bacon cooked crispy; and a lite English muffin with sugar-free orange marmalade and cawfee. Tonight’s feast will be something involving ground turkey and will be prepared by the lovely and talented Airman Doors.

Got some work to do today, most of it for money, but I’ve got a PowerPoint about ham radio that I have to do before Tuesday. Fun fun!

I just finished some studio time, tending to the rough edges of the pieces I’ve finished. They’re all initialed, dated, and drying the last bit before going in the kiln. I’ve got 6 pieces in the damp cabinet - they’ll sit there a little longer.

Meanwhile, I should probably make a few more items to make sure I’ll have a kiln load. I’d like to do a clock. Maybe a couple different kinds - a wall clock and a desk clock. Must continue to think on that.

It’s warming up - I fear I’ll have to close the house shortly. bummer. :frowning:
