Stocking up on MMPs

Tell me about it! FCD has a Fat Boy that he modified into a bagger. But it hasn’t even run for over 3 years. He’s pretty sure he knows where the problem is, but with all the surgeries, even if it was in perfect running condition, he wouldn’t have been able to ride. Personally, I wish he’d sell it, but he wants to ride again. So it’s taking up space in the painting shed and I only see it if I need to put something in there.

Boys and their toys… :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s a glorious 61° this morning, but the heat returns today (mid-80s) and gets hotter (mid-90s) next week. Worst of all, the humidity is returning. So before the day is over, the house will be closed and the a/c will be back on. Dammit.

Daughter’s furniture is supposed to be delivered today. I’ll be going to her house to wrangle Roxy, who loves to talk to delivery folk and workmen, to the detriment of their actual raison d’être. Plans include either the playground or the museum, depending on when the delivery is made. Last estimate was between 11:30 and 2:30.

No other plans besides that. Well, except for ordering pizza for lunch - I’ll have it delivered right to their house.

For now, breakfast, then shower, then who knows?? Happy Thursday!!

@nelliebly

I am just fine. Thanks for asking. It has been a bust few weeks.

We have been in exercise mode lately either walking five plus miles or riding our bikes for ten plus. We had a nasty windstorm (officially clocked at 96mhp) come through here not long ago and it took out about a third of a huge walnut tree in my back yard. My chainsaw had had quite a workout but I have cut up and hauled away everything from the ground and trimmed out the broken and hanging branches that I can reach off of my 24 ft ladder. Sunflower will not let me climb into the tree. The high hanging stuff will just have to swing until they fall on their own.

I try to stay current reading here but I often do not know what to say and end up in lurk mode.

Hippie, glad you and Sunflower are ok, 96mph winds are around hurricane force and are no joke. Glad your house wasn’t damaged. And say anything; this is the Mundane and Pointless stuff thread, after all…

Up before 6am, so nappage is a definite possibility. After soccer the last two nights there is nothing on the agenda and I put the garbage out last night so that is done, just need to bring the can in after they make pickup. So maybe do a little housework…or not.

Everyone have a good Thorsday.

lol back in the day I knew a few females with riding crops that would of loved to know you could do that …

Gods its been a crappy week or so … spent most of last week helping my aunt sell her piles of toys to a collector and she made a small bundle and last Thursday the water line in the swamp cooler broke off and didn’t get until today …while its been 105-110 F

did get some good news we don’t have to worry about moving as much which I had a feeling would happen because the landlord’s kid and girl aren’t working at all and they wouldn’t be able to afford the place … of course, the rent goes back up to what we were paying) well for us normally but hopefully, the real estate market corrects its self and things are affordable again

so I hope everyone who needs it gets better and yays and boos to be distrubitied amongst ya selves …

This reminded my of when my inlaws were building a house in FL about 35 years ago. They were literally building it themselves, only contracting for the well, septic, and pouring the slab.

Anyway, FIL was taking down trees and cutting back branches (as an aside, they didn’t want to remove one particular tree, so they notched the eave around it! :open_mouth: ) He was up on the ladder with his chainsaw, leaning out and reaching out with the saw in one hand to cut a branch! The man really overworked his guardian angel that day!! This also illustrates why he’s so far in denial about his physical condition at 91 - he never acknowledged limits. Not sure if that’s admirable or insane…

I wish you lived closer to me - we have a pine tree down across a path into our woods. FCD is in no condition to handle a chainsaw, and frankly, they scare me, so I’m reluctant to mess with one. SIL does OK with smaller trees and branches, but this one is well beyond his very recent and limited experience. I hate to have to hire someone to come for this one stupid tree, but we don’t need any other tree work done. I may not have a choice. Dammit.

Having showered and dressed like a responsible adult, I changed the filter in the HVAC and tweaked the water heater up a bit, since FCD wants his shower \color{red}{\text{HOT!!}} I also watched a couple of videos about increasing water pressure in the well holding tank. I’m going to let FCD watch them also and see if it’s something we want to mess with or if we should just hire it done - the pressure in the house seems to have decreased a bit. I think we can manage it, but I don’t want to inflict damage - that would be a much more expensive service call.

For now, tho, I’ll put off dealing with it. I think I’ll read till it’s time to order pizza and head to my daughter’s place.

Happy Thorsday!

It was a refreshing 58 degrees at the park this morning.
I got home early as there were only 3 of us there. Lucy had to leave early so her dad could get his pops, and Lily had to leave early so her mom could take ex’s son to school.

Adam is getting annoying. He comes in the back door and then wants right out the front. At least this time he grabbed a couple bites of food on the way. Most of the time he just walks in the back and heads for the front. I guess walking through the house is easier than walking around the house. Or he likes rubbing it in the dogs’ faces that he is allowed to go out front.

I thought Mike, my palm, was done for, but since I put him outside, all kinds of new growth are happening. I wasn’t sure what I was doing wrong, but I think he needs more sunlight. I’ll have to find a new spot for him when it’s time to bring him back indoors.

Going to pick up groceries this afternoon. I look forward to seeing how the order gets messed up this week.

Totally fed up with AT&T. I still cannot get my son’s discount to go through. I get to the point where I have to upload his paystub and get an error message telling me there is a problem and try again later. Then I get an email asking telling me I’m almost there and need to finish.
I’ve been trying again later for two weeks now.
Yesterday while trying again, I got a message if I’d like somebody to call. I said yes, and so they did. Only to tell me that he can’t help me with this issue but he will transfer me to somebody who can. Well, the person he transferred me to spoke even worse English that he did. Could not understand a word he was saying, and it also seems he could not understand a word I was saying. He kept going on and one about me paying the bill, and I said I already paid the bill and I had auto billing set up. He said no, I hadn’t paid the bill, due on the 21st, and he could take care of that for me, at a charge of $5. I said why would I pay $5 to pay my bill? He rambling on about the bill and I said but this isn’t why I called you. He said why did you call then. I said you know what, this is fucking bullshit and hung up on him. So, I went out online and yes, my bill that was due on the 21st was paid, but I owed another $27.40, I guess for the last few days under my name, but it wasn’t due yet, so I don’t know why the big deal about me having to pay the bill. But I paid it, online, and I didn’t have to pay $5 to do it.

Then I get another email from the mortgage company telling me they need my last 3 months statements from my business account which I have them over and over that I do NOT have a business account. However, if I don’t have a business account, I need to send them the last 3 months of my personal account, which I have done 3 times already (twice as attachments to an email, once through some kind of system they have that connects directly to my bank) with a written and signed explanation as to why I don’t have a business account.
I feel like telling them to fuck off too.

Thanks

It is a bit of a drive. If I were closer I would be glad to help

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 17C/63F outside, sunny at the moment but we have had some rain today and we have a thunderstorm warning until Friday night/Saturday morning. It covers a very large chunk of the country so I’m not expecting much in the way of thunderboomers but no doubt it’ll be heaving down on Saturday as I’m going to an outdoor music festival. Luckily said festival is in a park about 10 minutes walk from my house so if the weather gets intolerably bad, I can just go home.

hippie glad to hear you and Sunflower are ok!

wordy so sorry to hear about the little overly incident. Overlies? Overlys? Overlyes? Take yer pick! I hope she hasn’t done any serious damage but you are wise to consider getting her checked out properly if she has a history of broken bones.

Busy day of irk for me today, the Russians are once again causing me problems and they haven’t even got anywhere near Russia yet. We have a bunch of work to do for the students to get their visas, and it seems to have landed on my desk for some unknown reason, despite the fact I don’t have any responsibility for that part of the programmes we run. That’s what happens in summer when we have no staff…

I work in retail/customer service. I’m likely exposed to COVID and all the variants every goddamn day.

Self-isolating means no income, so that is simply not an option for me.

Good morning everyone.

It’s a pleasant 61 degrees outside and we are actually supposed to get some rain starting tonight and through Saturday or Sunday. I’ll believe it when I see it, but I will mow the lawn today just in case. It’s looking shaggy and needs a haircut anyway. We could definitely use the rain out here because we haven’t had any measurable rain in almost 60 days.

I treated myself to a fancy pedicure yesterday and then went to Kohls to see if anything interested me. Sadly, the selection was poor and it looked like everything had been ransacked through. I picked up three tops without trying them on and one is going back. I also picked up a shirt for my husband.

I stopped for Linner on the way home, so that made my husband happy.

I’m sorry to read about your slump, VanGo. I really hope you things start looking up for you soon.

I hope that all overgirl had were scrapes and nothing is broken, wordy.

I’m glad that Tom finally got to rest in his chosen spot, swampy.

Speaking of being a certain age, for months now I kept thinking I turned 58. It turns out I am 57, lol! I can’t math properly. I dunno, the month and years; they blur. This came to light when I went to a retirement lunch for a friend. She and I are the same age and are only days apart on our birthdays. However, we kept saying something about being 57 and I said, “No you’re not; you’re 58! We just turned 58 in May”. She and her daughter laughed at me (rightly so) and told me to do the math. Which I did. Talk about embarrassing.

At any rate, when I retire, my plan is to keep my health insurance, because everything I’ve heard states it’s better to do so.

I was going to go mow the lawn right now, but it’s only 8:02, I better wait until at least 9:00.

When the temp and humidity are both below 80, this job ain’t half bad.

Just say the safe word.

hippy, I often feel the same way. That and like nothing I say is super important. But Dopers are amazing, so I do love to come here, even if only to read about your and other Dopers’ adventures.

Overlygirl had a tough night last night, helped a teeny bit by some ibuprofen. It’s still the sting of those scrapes bothering her (and all the nerve endings they tend to destroy vs. a cut which is way more targeted), so it took her a long time to doze off. But she woke up way less uncomfortable and her scrapes are looking slightly drier.

On the bright side, her brother, in an unprecedented act of kindness (and so he could get candy), put her bike away for her last night, then hied his ownself down to the grocery store and grabbed a mammoth box of Mike & Ikes, which they finished off on the way to my mom’s, where overlygirl was further presented with oreos. The girl made out like a bandit. She may be feeling way better, but I’m still having them x-ray the arm tomorrow. She wasn’t happy with my husband calling her Brokearm Bean most of yesterday and giving her a hard time about not having worn elbow pads; hopefully he won’t have any reason to call her that this time tomorrow.

My leather sewing machine is an industrial walking-foot model that costs about $1500 new with table. Someone once gasped at that price until I pointed at their $12,000 embroidery machine. Expensive hobbies…

For a vegetarian, I have rather a lot of leather things. I keep thinking I should try leatherworking, but maybe I’d better stick with my free ancient Singer and cheaper fabrics for now… Maybe if/when I get somewhere actually settled.

Irk has completely frazzled my brain today- I think the clients were having some kind of contest to see who could confuse me the most. I’m not sure who won, but I know I lost.

I had/have some gatorade left over from my prep so I drank some with my breakfast. I found myself thinking, and not for the first time; “People still drink this stuff? Why?”

Hugs, salmons, etc.

I did ours a little after 8, but the house density is such that mowage, even right next door, isn’t all that loud. Since no one has ever put a flaming bag of poo on my porch, I’m guessing it’s not been an issue.

Back! Daughter’s couch was delivered a bit after 10 - so much for 11:30-2:30! But I took her and Roxy to lunch at Cracker Barrel, then we went to the marine museum for a couple of hours. It was nice - a pretty day and not too horribly hot. I did just finish closing the house, tho - it’s mid-80s out and it’ll only get hotter before FCD comes home.

I pulled a meatloaf out of the freezer for supper. I’ll do little red spuds-n-onions, and the other side will be cabbage. So a nice healthy supper. I’ve got a timer set for when I need to put the meatloaf in the oven, so chillage till then.

I just got word that a friend’s mom died of COVID. That brings the COVID death toll in my little world to five. I have a son and a sister at high risk, as am I. I apologize if I’ve been a PITA about COVID. I cherish the people in my life, including all of you, and I guess I’m not handling the current situation and the continued risk with as much grace as I should.

I haven’t done much today. I’ll be heading out soon to walk a few errands.

Tater, I was 38 for a year-and-a-half. After my 37th birthday, I kept telling myself,
“Next stop, 38!” and somehow that morphed into thinking I was 38. I read an article about “Patty Hearst, 39” and thought, “No, she’s two years older than I am, so she’s 40!” Then I did the math. Gosh, that seems so young now! Enjoy your young self!

wordy, glad overlygirl feelsa bit better today. Let us know what the ortho says. And kudos to overlyboy!

hippie, glad you’re alive and kicking. Listen to Sunflower and stay away from those widow-makers!

Sari, so glad I’m not the only one who names her houseplants! Glad Mike is doing better. Maybe hang a photo of the tropics nearby as encouragement.

‘Is that a meatloaf in your freezer, or are you just happy to see me?’

Wait… What?

I have a meatloaf in the freezer. I have no idea when I’ll whip it out.

Cooked meatloaf freezes really well, so when I make meatloaf, I make two or three loaves. Once baked, the extra(s) go into the freezer to be brought out triumphantly a month later for an easy dinner.

I haven’t made any for awhile, so I think meatloaf is on the menu for this weekend. With mashed potatoes and brown gravy.

I cook one and put the other one in the freezer.
