Stocking up on MMPs

metal mouse, ouch! I hope that you aren’t sore from your tumble.

I missed you hippy! I’m glad that you and Sunflower fared the windstorm with no more damage than happened.

{{{nellie}}} Losing someone in your world hurts.

Irked, got gas, cleaned the trash out of the backseat and came home. There’s a load of clothes now ready to go into the dryer and Sis will be here ~10PM, which necessitates a nap on my part.

The big plan is to hit the dog park for a quick romp (she’s bringing Nelson’s father and his auntie with her) in the morning before hitting the road in separate cars (she’s retired and will stay for 2 weeks. Me, I have to leave Monday). I’ll likely not post for a couple of days unless Dad can come up with his wifi password. :stuck_out_tongue: The phone is just too stinkin’ small to read the Dope on.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

My wife has just been notified that she has tested positive for Covid.
I was tested last Friday and was negative.
I still don’t have any symptoms.

I guess we’ll try to stay away from each other as much as possible for a couple weeks, but, realistically, if she’s got it, I’ve got it.

Of course, we were fully vaccinated back in March. So there’s that.

I feel bad that I went in for my colonoscopy yesterday. I hope I didn’t infect anyone in the hospital.
I would feel real bad if I did.

At least I got a pizza before I had to come home.

OK, why have I never thought of this before?? I always make at least 2 meatloaves at a time, but I put the raw extras in the freezer. Henceforth, I’ll bake 'em all at once. Thank you!

Today’s meatloaf was yummy, but it fell apart. I suspect I’m not loafing it tightly enough or something. Lucky for me, FCD doesn’t care about presentation so much, nor do I for that matter. Desserts need to look pretty, everything else just needs to be edible - so sayeth I!!

Three for me - and that’s 3 too many. Then there are the unvaccinated ones who got it but survived - they still deserve a fwap with a big wet trout. None have been geographically close to me, and the first was actually among the first to get it in early 2020, so there was no vaccine. Still, dammit, get the shot! grrrrrrrr

And we’re winding down. I’ll mosey back to bed shortly. Even tho our alarm is set for 5:45, FCD has been rising just after 5, and by default, I get up at the same time. Which means by 8:30 or 9, I’m dragging. Here’s hoping we set a good rhythm once he’s been working a bit longer. But for now, I think I shall hit the sheets.

PS - Bumba - eek!!! Hope the shots keep you and yours safe!!!

Hi, folks.

I’ve been busy. Best that I have been. Keeps what’s-left-of-my-mind off my daughter. She’s sick sick. She’s going in for a COVID test in the morning. She’s got a low-grade fever, cough, congestion, headache, body aches, sinus issues, exhausted, etc. She’s been taking Alka~Seltzer Plus pills. Not really doing much for her. I hope it’s a cold, and starts to clear up, since she’s got to work tomorrow night.

I’ve been canning all day. No, wait. That’s a lie. I’ve been peeling, then cooking down tomatoes all day. I had about 50 pounds. Canning them only took 45 minutes. Anyway, I’ve been in the kitchen the entire day. I cooked them down until the sauce was nice, and thick. I ended up with 7 quarts, and 1 pint.

Good grief. I still have laundry to get started.

I got groceries this morning. Early. Glad it’s done. I bought a couple racks of ribs, so, I’ll throw 'em in the Instant Pot this weekend, and that’ll be a nice meal. Maybe with some corn on the cob, or something. I’ve got plans for some BST sammiches, too, since I held back a few nice tomatoes. Bacon, spinach (Instead of lettuce), and tomato.

The weekend food will happen only if my husband comes home. He’s been OTR for two weeks. But, since our daughter is sick sick, he would like to know the results of her COVID test, before he comes home. If she’s got it, he’ll stay out another two weeks. Damnit. He’ll leave us here, to fend for ourselves. My daughter, myself, and my husband, are FULLY vaccinated, by the way. Ugh.

I’m pooped. I need some iced tea, and I’m going to wander off to bed. Have a peaceful night, folks.

Keeping :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:

Boo, thank you! There is NO reason for all this ridiculousness. Good grief…

I am so sorry for everyone with COVID issues illnesses and deaths. My husband the idiot came down with it a couple of months ago and it didn’t look like fun.

Moderna is suggesting a booster, I’m going to be talking to my doctor about it tomorrow. My husband the idiot is still not vaccinated and isn’t taking any precautions because he thinks he has lifetime immunity now. My shots protected me from him last time, hopefully a booster will protect me from him when he gets Delta.

When George was a little kitten and I was holding him in the kitchen, I could tell that he was looking around and thinking “Wow, new lands. I can’t wait until I’m big enough to get up there and explore!” Today he learned he is big enough to get on the kitchen counters and island. He doesn’t understand why this momentous occasion has been greeted with NO! and spray bottle when it should be cause for celebration.

He’ll be 4 months old on the 9th and he’s already 6 lbs. As fast as he’s growing, I’m thinking he’s going to be 10 lbs by October.

We took Mom to our favorite Mexican place for a late lunch today. The nice thing about being retired is that we can go out when everyone is working, so most restaurants are pretty empty at 3:30 on a weekday. This place used to be a small house and the owner always tries to put us in an empty room away from other people. The menu had different things, so I tried the crab enchiladas. I’m rarely disappointed in their food, but this wasn’t great. IMO. Of course I didn’t throw my plate on the floor or anything, I just won’t order them again.

Evening all. Dropped off the Water/Sewer bill this evening and decided to let Subway take care of dinner. Got a little bit of rain this evening, just enough to dampen the ground some. We’ll see if it cools things down.

{{nellie}}. Nobody I know has died of COVID here or elsewhere, but I do worry about some folks.

unknown, ‘my husband the idiot’ is an apt name. He really should know better, being smart enough to marry you.

nona, hoping daughter’s symptoms is a run-of-the-mill virus and not COVID. Hope husband makes it home from the road.

Bumba, {{ }} for your wife (you can deliver them, otherwise it might be awkward…) Hope you stay healthy. My test is Saturday.

red, feel fine, it wasn’t a hard fall and it was on a grass field, so not bad…just any fall at my age and size is not recommended. Have a good trip now.

OK, have done a spreadsheet for the soccer league showing how coach recruitment (we use only volunteers here) is going, compiling and organizing data was what I did best when I was a Logistics specialist, so I guess I still can do it.

All y’all have a good night and I’ll catch you on Firday.

Evening, all!

I worked until 10pm last night, and when I finally logged off I had every intention of watching TV for a while before going to bed…but by the time I’d walked the 15 steps to the living room, I decided to just to go bed. Today was another long day, I’m pretty tired again, and I can’t believe there’s still one more day to go until the weekend. The committee I volunteer on is meeting on Saturday morning, but I’m leaning toward skipping it (for the first time): I think I’d like to be able to sleep in, then do whatever I feel like without watching the clock. Like maybe starting to work on my certification exam application. Or thinking about what I might sing at that guy’s gig Sunday evening.

Oh, last night I forgot to mention that yesterday I had the psych eval for my upcoming bariatric surgery. It’s official: I’m sane!

Everyone has their thing that they spend money on. My avocation is jazz singing, which means I need to save up a TON a money for retirement because it is really not a cheap hobby. I once added up all of the money I spent on lessons, workshops, equipment, sheet music, etc., in a year, and it was…quite a sum. And that was just one year. And I haven’t gone into a studio yet. And I’ve only had one gig so far that was profitable. But it’s what I do, so there’s no running tally.

I have a fruit punch Gatorade Zero in front of me right now. It’s yummy!

I am WAY past upset and trying to calm myself down. I got a notice today from the IRS saying I owe taxes–a LOT of taxes, including a penalty for “substantially underreported taxes(!)” I did my taxes via TurboTax with live help (the pricier option). The rep saw my screen and guided me through step by step. I was surprised I was getting a refund, as I expected to pay a little, but we went through it a second time, and their program said I’d get a refund, which I did.

The IRS statement says I made a LOT more money than I did–a lot more money than I ever have in any given year–so clearly something is wrong. I tried calling TurboTax, but they’re not open right now. I’ve never had any IRS trouble before. I’ve always been scrupulously honest on my taxes. I know I didn’t miss anything.

Yikes.

Take it easy, nellie. I suspect the IRS messed up (yes, they do that) and between you and Turbo Tax it’ll get settled. I’ve used TurboTax for years and haven’t had any issues. Just wait for tomorrow and don’t let yourself get too worked up.

Take care, the SSR

Yes, nellie, take a deep breath. :blue_heart: I use H&R Block online, and they have some kind of guarantee that they stand behind returns prepared with them. I’m sure TurboTax has something similar, especially since you used the live help option. I totally understand the crazy-making, but The_Stainless_Steel_Rat is right: this is clearly a mistake on the IRS’s part. It may be a little knotty, but you’ll get help from TurboTax. You’ll feel better after you can reach them tomorrow. Keep us posted…

Thank you, dear MetalMouse and Misnomer. When you go on the TurboTax website, they talk a lot about how you can trust them, and they’ll stand beside you every step of the way. If you get audited, they’ll be there! But when I looked into getting a notice I owe more taxes, the response seems to be, “Either pay up or appeal it. You’re on your own.”

I’ll call in the morning. My problem is I’m a Good Girl who plays by the rules, and this sort of thing freaks me out. Your calming words are greatly appreciated and really do help.

I gasped at the price because I would have expected a heavy duty industrial machine to cost much more than $1500. Mom (who has several pricey fabric machines) also thought that $1500 wasn’t a bad price at all.

nellie for the longest time, Mom had me stalled at 30. I’m the oldest and if one of my sisters mentioned that they were doing such a thing as having their 32nd birthday, Mom would argue with them and tell them that I was only 30, so they must only be 28.

An hour or so ago, I saw a fluffy chicken strutting down the road, so I went out and chased her into our back yard while I tried to find the owner. Chickens can climb steps, and this one climbed up on our back porch and looked into the french doors and catio. Its good that the owner came to rescue the chicken from our fierce cats who were trying to eat chicken through the glass.

(Hubs might have possibly put some birdseed on the porch for entertainment purposes, but of course we didn’t tell chicken’s owner.)

I am working on my bartender skills. I have tried a few versions of the Aviation cocktail. Now I am moving on to Brandy Alexanders. I love those.

We are watching disaster movies, which I also love with an unholy love.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. 1 week to vacation.

(((([n]Nona[/b] and family[/b]}}}}

{{{{Bumba and wife}}}}

Deep breath, nellie.

Me, too!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’! YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 90 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Yestiddy after helpin’ mow over to the church house, I got back to da cave and decided to mow since it was still cloudy out and relatively (for here in August) mild. That wore me out! Today shall be a day of much sloth. I also foresee some quality cee-mint pond time. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza. We shall also have sallit to make it all healthy.

{{{Bumba and wife, Nona and family, and everyone dealin’ with covid}}}

Nellie deep breaths. I’m sure all will be well with the IRS.

I read all but have retained little, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlin’s, noogies, and how you doin’a all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Firday Y’all!

nellie - I can’t help but wonder if somehow your SSN became attached to someone who earned however much the IRS claimed is your extra income. Maybe a typo? Don’t make yourself crazy. They’re not going to haul you off tomorrow. Get all your documentation together, take a deep breath or two, and start making phone calls. And remember, the IRS is actually just a bunch of people doing their jobs. People make mistakes.

FCD has left for the office. I finished breakfasting and I’m caffeinating. Today’s main chore is laundry, including bed strippage. I’ll haul everything downstairs, including my tablet, and I’ll read while the clothes are sloshing away. I plan to try out the recumbent bike - I can read while pedaling.

Which reminds me of my early days in the Navy. Before I had a car, I used to ride my bike to the hangar. One of my coworkers came up to me with a serious look and said “You know, you can be arrested for that!” To my confused reaction, he said “Pedalling your ass around town!” Sailors! The lot of 'em!!!

It’s a glorious 66° right now, but we’re promised sun and upper 80s (feels-like in the 90s) so good drying weather. When I’m done reading my various sites, I’ll hit the shower, then haul the dirties downstairs and begin my washer-woman duties. Ah, retirement…

Happy Firday!

Morning all. Didn’t sleep well last night (weird dream in that I was teaching World Geography to High School students in a basement classroom with TV’s constantly on…) so up at 6am. Staying awake all day may be a challenge. 72F heading for 84F and a 25% chance of rain. Newspaper has been rescued from the lawn and medicines swallowed, so I am at least competent enough to do that much.

Unknown, good on ya for the chicken rescue.

OK, back to thinking about thinking about doing stuff around the house…

Have a good Firday, y’all.

It’s a wet, rainy morning in western Mitten State. Blue jays are screaming nearby - not sure why they’re upset. It ain’t my cats; they’re both inside, crouched at the open door, glaring at the rain.

And at each other.
