Odd as it may sound, I have weirdly developed a smidgen of respect for this guy after reading that article. I mean, he was an unprincipled shit for voting against legislation to protect gays’ civil rights, but at least he didn’t smother it in a side order of denial and hypocrisy:
No floundering denials, no smarmy apologies about having been “led” into “sin” or deeply regretting his “weakness” or promises about seeking “therapy” to renounce his “lifestyle”. Just “well, yeah, you got me, I’m gay”. Kinda refreshing.
Of course, it’s early days yet, and I’m not banking that this guy won’t go full-on smarmy hypocrite in the future, but so far I’m personally inclined to show clemency and dismiss his Stupid Republican citation.
