Perhaps he should advise them that, while an independent Texas is completely off the table, we are willing to open a dialogue on giving it back to Mexico.
Oddly, I think of the form “as one does” as more typically American, while I tend to hear “as you do” from British (and other Commonwealth) English speakers. No idea if that’s an accurate representation of actual usage.
In cases where I would use it, I would probably go the full ironically posh over-embellishment of
"…as one is wont to do " </bulwer-lyttton>
Well, maybe not *peak *Caligula. He hasn’t appointed any farm animal Senator yet, as far as I’m aware. Although this being Kansas, how could you even tell ?! badum, tssssh
To quote from the Brownback article:
I’m all excited. Will this be like a rock tour, with t-shirts bearing the tour’s itinerary on the back, worn by roadies who set up the replica desk and set and lights?
Who is the opening act, and how long is his set?
Will we be treated just to Brownback sitting at the desk and signing a replica of the bill, flanked by blown-up images of fetuses and by anti-abortion activists, or will there be a musical number, too? Or maybe a speech.
Not sure that counts as notably stupid, just a normal display of religiosity to a religious audience.
I’m picturing the Animatronic version of Brownback performing the show hourly at Disneyland Kansas for generations to come.

One thing for sure - Kansas Disney will be missing Tomorrowland, and Fantasyland will be twice as large.
But The Twister ride will be awesome.
If the’re lucky, they’ll exit the ride somewhere outside of Kansas.
That opening sentence about Katrina refers to a year and a half-old report, but it’s worth repeating – I wasn’t aware of this:
With fields full of poppies! poppies! poppies! ![]()
Who could imagine that they would freak out…in Kansas!?
Rachel Maddow tells us Brownback has set aside $500,000 to defend the bill in the courts.
There’s probably some public cost to the gov’s statewide signing tour as well.
Meanwhile, many Kansas schools, starved of funds, will be closing their doors early this spring.
That laser focus on jobs exists only during campaign season.
This is where stupid and crass converge in a tsunami that leaves a bad taste in your[sup]*[/sup] mouth.

(Texas GOP ex-lawmaker schools governor for ‘pandering to idiots’ who fear Jade Helm 15 military takeover)”]Pandering to idiots who believe that U.S. Navy SEALs and other U.S. military personnel are somehow a threat to be watched has left me livid.
I am horrified that I have to choose between the possibility that my Governor actually believes this stuff and the possibility that my Governor doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to those who do. I’m not sure which is worse.

I mean, yeah, Rs eating there own is fun to watch. But IIUC, governor Abbot is in a wheelchair. Could Smith, maybe, have worded that a little differently, so that it did not sound like it came right out of, oh, a book by Molly Ivins?
*“your” as in “one’s”
[insert your own pussy joke here]
Todd Smith just became my favorite Republican.
