No. It pretty much ended with me saying something like “people have been saying that for a long time”. That seemed to shut them up and it didn’t require me dissing their religion or even their belief in an “end time” at some point in the future. Fighting ignorance sometimes requires discretion as to time and place.
I figured that they’d both resign first thing Monday morning. Nope!
Courser released a half-hour recording of rambling, paranoid ravings, claiming that he was being blackmailed by the GOP establishment. You see, he sent out those self-incriminating emails to flush out the evil blackmailers! And he’s not resigning; he’s going to stay and fight the Lansing political mafia! Also, they bugged his offices!
Cindy Gamrat, the woman he was involved with, has had the good sense to stay quiet.
The media is also taking a second look at the ratfucking that went on during Courser’s campaign last year.
This guy is almost too good to be true.
I especially like this quote:
In a Tuesday evening posting on Facebook, Courser, R-Lapeer, said he would be exonerated of any wrongdoing after he admitted he orchestrated a scandalous fake email sent to fellow Republicans in May to deflect attention from his relationship with state Rep. Cindy Gamrat, a tea party colleague from Plainwell. Both are married.
Lying, cheating, fraud…but no wrongdoing.
(Aug 12 on-line edition of the Detroit News in case the link doesn’t work).
Forget about that, I’m still pissed at Obama for letting 9/11 happen on his watch.
Even worse, Hilary was First Lady when the first attempt was made on the WTC. We need her emails from then!
We’ll have to ask AOL. Do they still have an office?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the party of “personal responsibility”.
Because IRaq was GWB’s fault, the Democrats have no responsibility for whatever happens there. Got it.
Let’s just agree that Democrats claim responsibility for nothing, period. That saves time.
The Democrats who were involved (who voted in the early 00s) now pretty much uniformly recognize their mistake, have expressed regret, and understand all the things that went wrong with the Iraq war.
The Republicans don’t, for the most part. Those who were involved, and even many who weren’t (like Jeb) still don’t recognize their mistake, haven’t expressed regret, and don’t understand all the things that went wrong.
That’s an incredibly massive difference. Jeb has zero credibility on this, just like Cheney. They seem to be incapable of recognizing the enormous stupidity of the war.
I think they are capable of recognizing their past mistakes. They just have a “stick to your guns” philosophy. They loathe admitting mistakes or publicly changing a position. They see this as being strong and resolute, and see admitting mistakes as being weak and wishy-washy.
Ah, the old “when are you going to stop blaming Bush for things Obama did and start blaming Obama for things Bush did” schtick. That never gets old.
Go ahead and handwave away the effects of the destabilization of Iraq on the development of ISIS (or whatever you want to call them). Ignore the original SOFA signed by Bush which agreed that all U.S. forces would be completely out of Iraq by December 31, 2011 (negotiations done with virtually no consultation with Congress, you’ll kindly note). Never mind that the Iraqis already thought the US was prolonging the occupation even adhering to the agreed timetable.
Nope, everyone knows that the whole world was hunky dory up until January 20, 2009, when everything suddenly went wrong and it was all Obama’s fault.
No, GWB is absolutely responsible for the disaster that is Iraq. And Obama is responsible for making it worse and giving up the gains that were made between 2008 and 2011.
How so? What should he have done differently? Broken the agreement with the Iraqi government? Is it his fault the Iraqi army was in such a poor state to begin with?
Well, you gotta give it to Obama then. I mean, it’s a challenge to take 6 years of continuous, constant and directionless clusterfuck and make it worse. Somehow. By adhering to binding agreements. But by gum, he did it !
It’s always entertaining to watch right wingers blaming Obama for not being the Magical Negro they also assert the Democrats believe him to be. The lazy bastard didn’t even solve global warming, and that’s a hoax !
There were no “gains”. Obama is responsible for not abandoning a mess that still was killing Americans even sooner. Iraq was a disaster and staying was only going to get more Americans killed for nothing. All the surge did was get more Americans killed and delay the time when the nutbars would take over.
Every step of the way from the start of the Iraq war, the only good decision was “get out NOW”. Any time and every time that wasn’t the decision, it was the wrong one.
Then how come we’re not out?
nm
Oooh! Oooh! I know this one!
OBAMA!!
We’re mostly out. I wish we were all out. At least no American servicepeople are dying over there.
Mostly out is better than half-way out or mostly in or all in.
