I would argue that these things are a result of a dedicated and widespread propaganda campaign on the part of Republicans, starting during the Reagan administration and kicking into full gear during the Clinton years. “The Democrats are elitists out of touch with real ordinary hard-working Americans” is a lie the GOP have repeated over and over and over again. “Democrats care more about gays and transgendered people who want to molest your children in public toilets than they do about decent Christians!” is another. “There is a War on Christmas!” - another. “Democrats only win because of widespread voter fraud by illegal aliens!” - another.
The maxim that lies travel more quickly and easily than the truths required to refute them remains as true as ever, and even if the Democrats were effective at countering the lies they would still be hampered by that maxim. And unfortunately the Democrats are not very good at countering the lies, while the GOP are very, very, very good at telling the lies in the first place.
Not 100 % sure if Republican, but using same metrics as Clothy uses on SLIOFT-thread, I think this qualifies: A Texan coach rejects a recruit because he’s from that librul Colorado:
Noting that there has been an issue with students from Colorado failing drug tests due to Colorado’s marijuana laws is a legitimate point, and the coach would have valid cause to say “If you can’t pass a drug test because you’ve smoked or ingested pot, don’t waste our time.”
But no, he decided to go Full Asshole, and then to blame liberals for him being an asshole. Nice.
Not really. Recreational is limited to over age 21, which high school students typically are not.
If a high school student is using pot, it has nothing to do with obtaining it legally, Same as in a state where pot is not legal.
It doesn’t help that any (real or perceived) disparaging remark toward “good Americans,” spoken by any (real or perceived) Democrat, will be seized upon, inflated to thrice the size of Goodyear blimp, and trumpeted by the aforesaid GOP propaganda machine as Official Democrat Policy™. For some reason, “Flyover country” comes to mind.
My son ran NAIA cross country and track, and he was drug-tested (I don’t know if it was random or an annual event). I would guess that the NCAA is at least as stringent (I know the NCAA academic requirements are in theory tougher).
Sort of? He’s from Pittsburgh, PA. He moved to Utah after law school. He may think that since Utahns are dumb enough to make him their representative all this time, that they’re dumb enough to believe what he says.
