Stupid Republican idea of the day

Begone.

Surprised this didn’t come up yet given today’s tragedy:

Yup, just keep suggesting that we need to turn our schools into heavily guarded prisons, jackholes.

Yeah, well, not only do these places have way too many doors, most of them have windows, too! A bad hombre can see right in! We need to brick those things up tout de suite!

And of course, I just had some guy arguing with me on Twitter that the police NEED armored vehicles and assault rifles because they are ‘often’ faced with criminals armed with ‘military grade weapons’. :smack:

No, no they’re not.

Apropos of nothing…but I will mention it anyway. I proudly come from the neighboring state, whose tourism slogan for a time was “Maryland is for crabs”. How great was that!!!..A slogan that simultaneously made sense AND made fun of the sickenly-saccharin neighboring state’s tourism slogan.

I strive to never offend anyone unintentionally, but only know the prefix “cis” in an astronomical context, as in “cislunar space”. Does the term “born” carry the same negative connotation?

With no offense to anyone, CIS-anything is not a term I hear anywhere but here and a few other places and they’re not terms I choose to use or will be required to use.

Then again, if someone calls themselves a woman, I call them a woman.

One waits a lifetime to use a bit of knowledge acquired in 1964 high school Latin (thank you, Sister Mary Joseph. I hope you’re resting in peace).

So “cis” is hither, i.e., here on this side. “Trans” is on the other side.

It’s interesting, however, how much the police NEEDS military shit all over the globe, seemingly almost regardless of actual local circumstances. Here in France it’s because of them radicalized islam dudes and assorted terrorists whot are about to take over the country any day now. You’re not supposed to notice when they immediately use it on peaceful student demonstrations, railworker strikes or migrant convoys, I think. Isn’t modern life confusing ?

Tactically thinking, you can’t have too many entrances or exits on a public building. Bunkering up means nobody can escape the guys who blitzed the rentacops at the lone entrance, which is going to happen because the illusion of security isn’t actual security.

Also maybe possibly control guns in your country already, you dumb fucks.

Did his fellow Republicans on the committee (Larry and Curly) agree with him?

Guns don’t kill people, doors kill people.

Will enhanced school security solve the problem? Well, it all depends on how you define “the problem”. If the problem is school shootings, then, yeah, maybe. But if you think the problem is mass shootings, then all enhanced school security will do is relocate the problem to the nearest mall, movie theater, Mcdonald’s, nightclub, church, or concert venue. (All of which have seen shooting incidents.)

And it doesn’t even really solve school shootings, as they just move from the halls and classrooms to the playground and sports fields.

Well, here it comes! At long last, Congress will start shoveling some serious money into education. And they will use it to buy guns.

Wouldn’t it cause a fire hazard to reduce the number of doors and windows that could serve as exits in case of an emergency? I guess the would-be school shooter can just start a fire in the building instead of procuring and using a gun. Yay! School shootings solved! :smack:

I read an account of the shooting a little while ago (:frowning: ) and a girl said that when she heard the shooting start, she ran to a door in the classroom so she could escape to a patio. The door was locked. :dubious: She hid in a cost with other kids and the shooter came into the room and shot into the closet.

So we don’t need fewer doors. Let’s just make sure the doors we already have are always locked.

There have been a few school shooters who either did use limited exits to herd victims into kill zones right outside the school, or planned to: Create a big noise inside the building, get everyone to leave through one or two exits, and have a confederate shoot them as they come out. Extra credit if you position a bomb, like a propane tank, in an apposite location to up the kill count.

The field really opens up when you intend to die. There are all kinds of new tactics open to you then. The Republicans should ask the Iraq veterans who patrolled the borders of the Green Zone to design a new version of the Green Zone, only this time they’re under explicit orders to let everyone in, except the ones who have concealed weapons without a concealed-carry permit, and then keep it safe, using people who have no military training and a strong aversion to shooting the potential attackers to do it.

Friend of a Friend on that actual friend’s FB page, regarding a non-political issue;

Her: “Liberalism is a disease that is destroying this country!”

Me: “Oh please, stop with this nonsense. Why are you making this political?”

Her: “Name me one good thing Liberals have ever done!”

Me: “Civil Rights.” <mic drop>
