They understand it just fine. They also understand that their audience is as dumb as a bag of hammers.
And their ‘leader’ is as sharp as a marble.
How can that be true? Every time I hit my thumb with a hammer, I say “Ooh, that smarts!”
6a. It was… sarcasm! Ya that’s the ticket! You leftards have no sense of humor!
So, things in Iowa regarding COVID-19 are … not good. We had a record number of new cases over the weekend, over 600 in one day - true, a lot of that is from increased testing at meat processing plants, but it’s still not a positive sign. Our R= rate (how fast cases are spreading) is the second worst in the country, only behind Nebraska. Most pandemic experts say the state’s peak in cases probably won’t come until mid- to late May, and the best guess at a smart time to reopen the economy is late June or early July.
Thank goodness we are led by Governor Kim Reynolds (R-AA degree)! The fawning acolyte of former Governor and current ambassador to China Terry Branstad and eternal Trump supporter has decided these health wonks don’t know what they’re talking about! We’re revving things up on May 1, dammit, and no lab-coat-wearing Poindexter is going to tell us different! Go to the gym! Head to the mall! Gather at your favorite church! But be smart … the governor “encourages” you to practice safe social distancing.
But isn’t it clever to only allow these relaxations in the 77 counties that are showing fewer cases and hospitalizations? Sure! Because Iowans *never *travel across county lines! A reporter asked a state spokeswoman about the issue of asymptomatic people traveling from a high-case county to a reopened county, and if the state had any recommendations or cautions about that. The answer? “This is why we strongly encourage those who are suffering possible symptoms or who aren’t feeling well, or who may in high-risk categories, to seriously reconsider traveling within the state.” Umm, that didn’t answer the question, you moron.
We haven’t even had significant reopening protests like we’ve seen in Wisconsin or Minnesota or Michigan … but why wait for public pressure when business owners are begging to fling open their doors? Plus … no more unemployment benefits to pay, right?
Yeah, I’m pissed. My state is led by a brain-dead Republican who follows advice from big business, huge meat processors, and Koch-funded think tanks, rather than listen to people who actually study science and health and, you know, “school stuff.” We are literally in one of the worst COVID-19 situations of any state in the nation - there’s no way we should even be *thinking *about reopening right now.
The meat processing plants are going to be hit HARD very soon (for those who have not already been hit).
These employers in general do not give two shits about the poor bastards on the line, will not give them space to work, or any protective equipment and make them work when they are sick. It’s going to be very bad on the food chain, especially for meat products. I predict massive problems, similar to what happened when oil futures went into negative territory when it became apparent that there was no place to store the excess oil.
When meat packing plants go down, cattle, pork and chicken will start to back up. Feedlots will back up. Prices for animals will plummet (ironically at the same time that consumers will not be able to get meat in the stores.
I predict that animals will be left to starve, or slaughtered and left to rot, while consumers get no meat in the stores. A complete shit-show.
And all this because politicians in agricultural states don’t have a fucking clue about how the systems work.
Sorry about the complete quote, but I think the totality is necessary to support my statement that it turns out all those Iowa jokes we Minnesotan’s used to tell (I’ve moved, maybe they still do) were if anything too kind.
My bold.
Well, asymptomatic IS a really big word. And anyway, who knows what it really means? :smack:
The Governor of Georgia has told stores to reopen, but tours of the Governor’s Mansion are still canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
Upon reflection…
She probably thinks “asymptomatic” means a person has “a symptom.” I mean, if you want to say someone has NO symptoms, the word would be “nosymptomatic” or “unsymptomatic,” amirite.
I mean, if you want to say someone has NO symptoms, the word would be “nosymptomatic” or “unsymptomatic,” amirite.
Too big a word for some Republicans, apparently:
Asymmetric people are spreading this virus
Those crooked bastards!
My right arm is bigger than my left. Started when I was fourteen.
Pinched nerve?
As I said on my Facebook page,
So, Governor Kemp either thinks that the corona virus is no big deal, in which case, why won’t he open up the mansion? Or he knows how deadly it can be, in which case he doesn’t give a crap about his states residents, but at the same time, he must have made the political calculation that there are enough voters who think that this pandemic is no big deal, and will vote to reelect him in the next election.
Maybe the Republicans should get ahead of the curve and stop blaming Obama and start blaming Biden.
Otherwise, he looks like Popeye.
Yep.
Pro-tip from a grocery store worker - if you plan to eat meat over this summer you might want to stock up and freeze some now.
Of course, most stores have a limit on how much meat you can buy at one time.
Me - I’m working on new vegetarian dishes I can eat. So far as I know beans and their products will still be available.
Stop blaming Obama?? Never.
It will always be Hillary, Obama, and now Biden… eventually adding in Biden’s VP. It’s a dynasty, emphasis on the nasty.
Here’s how I see it…
Let’s say you have 2 roommates, Bob and Tom. One day you ask “You guys hungry? Let’s go get a pizza” Tom is in, but Bob says, “You guys go ahead I’m just gonna chill”.
So, you and Tom go out and have a few beers and a pizza and when you come home you open the front door and you find Bob fucking your dog. You’re like “WHAT THE FUCK DUDE”! Bob just stares at you for a moment then points at Tom and shouts “He took $25 from your wallet”!
Do you say to Bob:
a)	“Well OK, then, keep going” and turn to yell at Tom about that $25
Or
b)	“WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH YOU FUCKING MY DOG”?!
Every time someone point out the awful things Trump does, the Republican supporters shout “BENGHAZI/HILLARY’S EMAILS/PELOSI” like it changes the discussion, then the Republicans go right back to fuckin’ that dog.
