Stupid Republican idea of the day

Don’t think this one has made it into the thread yet…

Tea Party darling Steve King informs us that President Obama is eroding American culture by making a congratulatory phone call to Jason Collins but ignoring Tim Tebow.

Never mind that Tebow is noted primarily for having proven that God does not answer prayer…at least the ostentatious prayers of a second-rate athlete for the miraculous win of a football game. Anyway I’ve heard that God always bets on the Dallas Cowboys…

up.

I’m sure Tim Tebow would have been thrilled to get a call from the POTUS congratulating him on getting cut.

Anyway, maybe Steve King should pay more fucking attention.

[QUOTE=Obama]
[And then of course there’s – there’s the quarterback – where’s Tebow at?

MR. TEBOW: Right here.

THE PRESIDENT: There he is, over there – Heisman Trophy winner. That’s what I’m talking about. (Laughter.) Everybody is going to get a handshake afterwards, just relax. (Laughter.) Tim is an inspiration to so many – a guy whose true strength comes not from the gym, but from his faith. He says he puts faith, family, and academics above football. And that’s incredible when you think about what he’s done on the field: first sophomore ever to win the Heisman Trophy, in a season in which he personally scored more touchdowns than 87 entire teams in Division I-A football.

I remember watching the upset when you guys lost to Ole Miss. I was actually doing a debate in Ole Miss right before the game and I remember Tim apologizing – watching him on TV apologizing to Gators fans and laying down a challenge to himself, making an commitment, a promise that in fact they were going to push as hard as he – they could and he was going to personally take it upon himself to make sure that you never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season.

You know, that’s the kind of leadership that you want to see from all our young people – taking responsibility, challenging yourself and others, rising to the moment. You didn’t promise that the Gators would win every game the rest of the way, but it’s a testament to his leadership that they did because he said we’ll always play hard.](http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/remarks-president-2008-football-national-champion-florida-gators)

It is not that our boy Steve King (representative of the sparsely populated, insular and parochial Western Slope) isn’t paying attention. It is more that Congressman King has his own particular world view and rejects everything that doesn’t seamlessly mesh with that view as unworthy of attention and spurious. Thus, any recognition of anyone or anything that deviates from the Congressman’s view is an insult to all that is American and True. He is also a narrow minded and ridged jerk but is in a safely Republican district where a majority votes for him because Lincoln won the war.

There is some indication that the man recognizes his own inadequacy. He has recently declined to run for an open Senate seat, apparently in appreciation that outside of far West Iowa he can’t win an election.

There’s a far West Iowa? Is that where all those people get lost trying to escape to Nebraska?

Well, we still have Tebowing and not Collins-zing.

That’s how I usually fuck.

Sample size is probably too small to generalize.

Actually I do it all the time.

Don’t gay people do Collins-zing all the time?

After hearing Louie’s really odd comment about “… casting aspersions on my asparagus …” it makes me start to wonder: is the whole point of Republican lunacy nothing more than a contest to get air time on The Daily Show? Are they possibly just jockeying for the Nut Cup for the free publicity?

Conservative group says AARP promotes radical “homosexual agenda”

Well, that does it! I’m gonna drop a couple of decades AND my AARP membership right now!

A GOP judge in Texas placed a ‘morality clause’ in a mother’s divorce papers that essentially forbids her from living with her partner, a woman.

The radical homophobic and bigoted attitude of the GOP is sickening. They are on the wrong side of history, and in fifty years will look as ridiculous as people that were protesting against de-segregation, and against inter-racial marriage. But at least those people were much better dressed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Disgusting.

If her parents had adopted a brother or sister when she was growing up, would the uncle or aunt be permitted to stay in the home? If so, then I guess the short-term solution will be for her parents to adopt her partner.

Otherwise, her parents could divorce, and her dad could marry her partner.

The results of morally depraved parents raising children are well documented. There is a strong tendency among such children in their teen years to obsess over texting messages, heavy petting, and drug experimentation, the sort of thing that doesn’t happen in nice, normal families.

A few random right wing - GOP stupidities:

Pete Santilli, Radio Host: Hillary Clinton Needs To Be ‘Shot In The Vagina’

He also wants to shoot other people, including the president.

(Whew - glad he lost his reelection bid.)

Rand Paul was still trying to make hay on this dead issue:

I don’t know which is worse, that this man actually believes things like:
[ul]
[li]‘blacks who join the Democratic Party are voluntarily selling themselves into slavery’[/li][li]‘gays and lesbians are “very sick people, psychologically and emotionally” whose minds are perverted’[/li][li]‘hate crimes legislation [is] a “virulent strain of Anti-Christian bigotry and hatred.”’[/li][/ul]
or that the Republicans of Virginia have chosen him as their candidate for Lt. Governor, along with the Cooch as their choice for Governor.

Virginia is getting scarier all the time.

Bill Nye gets booed in Waco for stating that the Moon reflects light.

Not explicitly Republican, but that lady who stormed out was no Democrat, that’sa for sure.

Just wanted to point out that this happened in 2006. Not exactly “of the day”.
