Public road funds are held hostage by the feds in extortion for complying with illegal federal laws. I would refuse to send or accept any federal highway money. And since water treatment is largely local municipalities I would leave that alone.

If one is predisposed to hate a President or his wife, one can always find cherry-picked facts to serve. I, for one, can forgive a lot in a President who doesn’t start an inane war that cost trillions of dollars and millions of Iraqi lives, just to enrich his friends and/or fulfill Biblical prophecy.

How is the government paying for your private school tuition any less “socialism” than public schools?
And why do you think it would be any better? Oh, yes, because you think everything private is better. Well, schools paid for with tax money wouldn’t resemble private schools for long. It’s not like anyone can get into any school they choose - at the better schools, there’d be almost no openings. How’s that promote choice? Then parents would demand the government regulate the private schools - and taxpayers would agree, since they are paying for it all. If private schools simply didn’t have enough room for students, and private investors weren’t interested in funding new ones, then what? Who is picked to be left home without an education?

The federal government doesn’t “hold hostage” it’s own money. It can spend it however it wants, with any strings attached it wants. States that dont’ like it can simply refuse the money. (And please, don’t do the "it’s not their money, it’s OUR money thing. We know that. This is about federal vs. state.)
