Stupid Republican idea of the day

If both survive the lirpa

Ah, it’s more amusing than stupid, but Yahoo right now has a news item on their feed
"Romney Optimistic about Republican Win in 2016".

I’m not sure I’d be relying on the guy who, in the face of consistently negative polling, didn’t even prepare a concession speech as my oracle for events 3 1/2 years away.

I like the Halo around Romney’s head in the photo in that link.

Private prisons are simply contractors for the federal and state prison systems. They have nothing to with any sort of local government. They are overseen by the federal government, same regulations.

Another brilliant response by a big government loving liberal.

Bullshit.

Started in 2003, jailed over 5,000 youths with NO legal representation.

lol. What does a corrupt judge have to do with private prisons? Try again ace.

He was taking kickbacks from the operators of the local prison to send youthful offenders to that facility.
if you had read the article, you’d know that.

Now, let’s be fair. The prosecutors (themselves probably good 'ol boys who would have acquitted if on the jury) argued differently:
The Texas law that allows people to use deadly force to recover property during a nighttime theft was put in place for “law-abiding” citizens, prosecutors Matt Lovell and Jessica Schulze countered. It’s not intended for someone trying to force another person into an illegal act such as prostitution, they argued.
And those who slide the slippery slope to say that guns may be legally used against rape victims who resist are full of shit. They can only be legally shot in the night-time. Or, presumably, if their skin is of night-time color.

Sheeeesh. The hatred these liberal message boards have against Texas, the state that brought us George W. Bush, once vote The Greatest Living American.

I read it. And I’ll concede those points. But my point is it is all a part of the prison system with direct oversight by the government. And that oversight failed. It’s just one more example of arrogant heavy handed government corruption.

fudrucker is absolutely right! If only we had private oversight of private prisons this sort of thing never would have happened.

Actually, I think this whole prison overcrowding issue could be resolved by ridding ourselves of these insane drug laws that put people in prison simply for being addicts.

Yeah, you’re a registered Democrat.

Rush Limbaugh clearly doesn’t know what coup d’etat means, as he’s accusing President Obama of planning one.

Rush Limbaugh Is Pretty Sure This TIme That Obama’s Leading a Coup D’Etat

Call me a big government loving liberal, but I personally think private prisons are a bad idea because you should not create economic incentives to deprive some of liberty. Talk about preverse incentives. All the regulations and oversight in the world won’t matter; if it is possible to make a buck locking people up, people will get locked up, in some case unjustly.

Even though that one corrupt judge is only an anecdote, there is circumstantial evidence of this occurring in other states and other prisons. There is also evidense of huge amounts of lobbying occurring where corporate prisons are financing three strikes laws and harsher sentences for minor crimes in a successful attempt to increase prison populations and maximize profit. Allowing people to profit off this is just a bad idea, the economic incentives lead to bad things.

But you, fudrucker, being a registered democrat, probably don’t believe in things like the free market invisible hand and economic incentives. It amazes me how obtuse you democrats can be when it comes to things like the unintended consequences of given profit opportunities to incarcerating citizens or killing brown people overseas.

If s/he is, almost certainly it’s to attempt to throw a monkey wrench into Dems primaries by voting for the worse candidate to face the GOPer in the election.

On the good side, a Conservative now accepts the right to privacy.

I always thought they denied that the Constitution guaranteed that right.

Consistency is the hobgoblin of [del]little[/del] liberal minds…

Any time anybody suggested laxer laws, such as repealing laws against drug use, the response would be, “You’re costing people their jobs.”

At least if we’re only eliminating government jobs, there is a public incentive in favor, as it saves the taxpayers money.

(GOP) Candidate for Roanoke County Board of Supervisors: Religious Freedom Only Applies to Christians

He wrote that six years ago, but still stands by it.

It’s kind of Republican-special that he doesn’t know the god of Islam is the god of the Bible - the god of Abraham.
