There seems to be a worldview — and I know some people who share it — which regards everything from the Strait of Gibraltar to the Black Sea (with the exception of Israel) as a sort of “Mooslimistan”. Sunni, Shi’a, Maghreb, Arab, Persian, Turk . . . they’re all the same. Insofar as Perry seems to exhibit some of the other traits as people who hold this worldview, his mistake is at least consistent.
To these people, the important thing is that the Jews rebuild the Temple of Solomon, which is essential for the Second Coming. After which they’ll be comfortably ensconced on a cloud, reveling in the torments of the heathens. Including, paradoxically, the very Jews who made it possible.
And Jesus, avatar of loving mercy, rubs his punctured hands and cackles with glee at the prospect of dumping 99% of the world’s population into a lake of fire. And then surrounding himself with a bunch of smug, uptight bigots for all eternity, and listen to them sing.
Or maybe He feels bad about that, but does it anyway. Because.
I went to the Sunday School where Jesus loves all the little children of the world. Mr. Perry went to another one, I guess. Did his have that picture of Jesus as a real good lookin’ white guy with reddish-auburn hair?
In JOB: A Comedy of Justice Yahweh states that 7.1 percent of the final batch* made it to the Holy City. So you may be unduly harsh on Him.
Or maybe not. I do think it is definitely a little strange to take a ghoulish delight in contemplating the eternal suffering of the damned. Not that this is a defining characteristic of Republicans, but in my experience those who do so seldom identify with any party to the left of the GOP.
*Not including golems, although what golems have to do with that statistic is not explained.
I saw the article about Burgess and went WTF … are Republicans holding some sort of secret contest to see who can say the stupidest thing wrt abortion and rape?
[QUOTE=Bryan Fischer, director of issues analysis at the American Family Association ]
“If you don’t believe in sodomy-based marriage, you’re not prepared to endorse and sanction sodomy-based marriage, you have no place in this institution [Johns Hopkins School of Medicine?],” Fischer complained. “So we’re getting to the point — I don’t know what the emblem would be — remember when the Jews in Nazi Germany, they had to wear a yellow Star of David on their sleeve? I mean, we’re getting to the point now, that’s what they’re going to make us do.”
“I don’t know what the symbol would be, I’d have to think about that,” he continued. “We’re getting to the point where these homofascists are going to force us to wear on our sleeves some kind of identifying marker so people will know who the racists and the homophobes and the bigots are, and can stay away from them.”

(I didn’t actually Google to see if Fischer has the “(R)” by his name. Does anyone really think that would be necessary?)
