Federal prosecutors said Dinesh D’Souza, who made the anti-Obama documentary “2016: Obama’s America,” was scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges he directed $20,000 in illegal contributions to be made in the New York Senate race in 2012. The candidate he supported was Wendy Long, who lost to Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand.

Prosecutors said he directed people to make the contributions to the campaign and then reimbursed them, which is a violation of election law that limits total contribution from one person to one candidate at $5,000.

I know the guy’s name and I remember that he made some bullshit documentary/commentary film about Obama, but from the article, the guy sure seems like a real piece of work,in a severely-ethically-challenged kind of way:

Defense attorney Benjamin Brafman said D’Souza didn’t act “with any corrupt or criminal intent whatsoever.”

He said, “It is important to note that the indictment does not allege a corrupt relationship between Mr. D’Souza and the candidate. There was never a corrupt agreement of any kind, nor was there any request made that the candidate take any action or refrain from taking any action as a candidate, or as a U.S. Senator if her political campaign were to have been successful.”

In October 2012, D’Souza resigned as head of an evangelical college after becoming engaged to a woman while still married to his wife.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday that no new regulations are needed after a chemical spill in West Virginia last week left more than 300,000 people without safe tap water. He suggested the incident was not the result of less environmental and energy regulation but of the Obama administration’s failure to enforce existing rules.

“The issue is this: We have enough regulations on the books. And what the administration ought to be doing is actually doing their jobs,” Boehner said at a press conference. “Why wasn’t this plant inspected since 1991?”

Why? Why? Well, that sequestration and refusal to raise taxes to get inspectors and resources to them is doing the wonders you and your do nothing congress wanted:

On the flip side, the spending deal offered only modest relief to cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency under sequestration. Republicans even bragged about successfully cutting the EPA’s funding by 20 percent since 2010 when summarizing the bill.

The EPA announced plans last month to significantly reduce inspections over the next five years. The agency said the move was necessary for a more “effective allocation of resources” to focus on the biggest polluters.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has also suffered under recent budget cuts. Due to low pay, the agency has struggled to hire and retain inspectors, resulting in so few workplace inspections that the average site will only face an inspection every 99 years.

It has to be said, Republicans do not care if the people of West Virginia are guinea pigs for their social experimentation.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone can identify or vote republican and not be outright ashamed at being a distention sack of shit. The republicans gut the EPA, and then whine that it’s the democrats fault the EPA isn’t doing enough? These assholes deserve to suck up the chemicals that their anti-regulation bullshit caused to spill into the environment. Maybe that way they’d actually be useful, rather than just causing harm.

Yes, when your campaign money comes from businesses with the marching orders to be against regulations, it’s pretty hard.
