Honestly, only some people in the gay community seem to be interested in changing the laws on multiple marriage and the age-of-consent laws that involve children (though I think NAMBLA may have been made unwelcome in the gay community for some time now). I think what the gay community will be pushing for after gay marriage will be making sure gays and transgendered people can’t get fired from their jobs or discriminated against in housing, and other stuff like that. I’m a little surprised gay marriage has come before wider protection from not getting fired.
…And really awful republican ideas, She may be kinda sorta thinking about running for president again.. In the event of a Bachmann presidency what in Og’s name could we call Marcus? You can thank the homophobes for that. Gay marriage was originally being pursued state-by-state. California, for example, already has legal protections for gays and transgendered - marriage equality was the next step in that state. But the far right seized on the issue and made it a federal issue with DOMA, and then started passing anti-marriage (and then some) laws in states that were nowhere near to legalizing gay marriage. If the Supremes decide on a nation-wide right to gay marriage in the next year, no group will be more responsible for it happening this soon, than the Republican party.
It does have a Confederacy vibe to it, doesn’t it?
