How did I come in fifth place? I was sittin in the dark and never got a chance to even sign up for the game? We had a lot of weather in the area and lost power at about 8:00 CDT
but this is kind of a serious no bs question. root botted once and came in top five as well, iirc. is this a plausible strategy in a normal cash game tournament? i mean it is boring as hell but crap if you are making money, why not? just pay your entry fee and sit and read a book or go take a nap. or crap just sit there and get hammered on free liquor.
In brick/mortar casino poker tournaments w/$60 entry fee, there will be typically be 40-50 players.
IME, Your stack will probably last about 1.5 hours (at the most). the tournaments usually go at least 3 hours. Trust me, if it was a viable strategy, people would be doing it.
I cashed in a 200 player tournament in Tunica. It took 6 hours to get to the money.
**Do we need a rule? should the player activate the [extended] time bank to confirm that they are botting? **
I mean, It’s one thing to fold and donate blinds, it’s viable [obviously] but the software makes it way to easy. We need some check here, if you are going to “play” by botting, there should be some way to confirm it. Otherwise, it’s just too easy.
Nothing against Crane in particular, just a thought I had.
I don’t think that was me. I’ve been a little late and missed the first few hands a couple times, but I can’t remember ever registering and then missing the whole tournament.
The site must have auto signed me in! I never signed up all day or even visited the site.
I can assure you that I wouldn’t bot a game on purpose.
I usually sign in at about 8:15 (my time) But we were inthe middle of a power failure untill abut 10:00 pm. Something strange is going on here.
back in the day it would depend on how often the drink chick was coming by. but i’d probably get a better return on my investment by drinking myself wonky than by actually playing.
and you are right it was fubbs. i knew it was one of the older regulars.
and i’ve never cashed in a brick and mortar tournament (only played in three, however). but i was the bubble boy one time.
I would ““round”” at restaurants and bars that would hire a third party company to host weekly tourneys. Would routinely spend about $15 on a good dinner and one or two drinks [The 500 chip bonus for eating food at the establishment didn’t hurt either.]. Most often, the restaurant would give gift certificates if you cashed.
Except for the times they didn’t.
One night, one glorious night, I made it heads up. I had heard rumors that the first place finisher actually got cash, over $100.00. [Actually $125.00 in cash]
I went all in [On pocket Kings, I believe, ironically] and he called me with rags, think he beat me two pair a set to my kings that never improved.
Oh, and second place got $75.00 [cash]
But then again, for that one establishment alone, I spent probably that much or more in orders. The Bartender actually knew me by name before all was said and done. I’m not one to drink - average of less than one alcoholic drink a week. Pretty sure I could have set up a tab there. not that I ever pursued it.
There was another location further out from me, I would consistently make final table at that game. We would draw for seat position, I would almost nearly start the final table on the button, or just behind. Best I ever did there was 4th.
well i’ve won a couple of those freebies where the price of admission is just to show up. but my god they are just shovefests for the most part early on. and if you play it tight then just end up short stacked against the folks that happened to get a hand early on.
i think a real cash game is much more indicative of your prowess than just your willingness to play cards while you drink beer.
but if you can wrangle a golf match the following morning you know that is like a treasury bond.
seriously, if they shoot 95 you shoot 93. if they shoot 81 you shoot 79. now if the sucker goes real low, like 73 or so then you know you have a tussle on your hands.
and guys and gals apologies beforehand. i won’t be able to make it tonight. peekkid#3’s high school has one of those rare thursday night football games. and since they are breaking out their “performance” set they really need all hands on deck. an eighteen wheeler, and three flatbeds of assorted band equipment and props. methinks advil is in my future.
if you want you can just give my opening stack to mensa. he takes it anyways.
